I Can relate 😢😢. That's why I don't trust anyone around my kids...and it's always the people that are close to you. My elder cousins and uncles defiled me from when I was 7 till 10 ,I innocently reported and I was whipped and told to shut up. Gladly my grandparents rescued me from those monsters.
Over the years (love life) I couldn't keep any relationships. Everytime I had to be intimate I had flashbacks of those horrible moments. I had to be open to my husband from the word go, accepted me, took his time, helped me through therapy, healing and loving my inner child. He's so patient with our sex life and he's truly an angel.

I remember taking a girl out here in London. We were together for two years but she never wanted me to touch her sexually. People were surprised that we couldn't advance our relationship. Then she told me one day how she was abused when a child. We were still friends for years until I found my current wife. Don't know how to help her but she is still my friend and a very responsible and brilliant lady. I am so happy you have a reasonable husband.

Listening to Edel talking about what relatives did to her and it resonates deeply. I finally spoke up & told my mother when I was 22. She blamed me for letting them do what they did, yet I had been told that if I spoke up my parents would die and it would be my fault.
This is why I never have people sleeping over at my home. For the sake of my children. I have made it clear to relatives & friends that I don't host overnight guests. Neither do I let my children sleep over at other people's houses. Especially relatives' homes. I can't & I won't. Not even for one night. I will not put my children in a position where they can't resist because of fear.

I share your sentiments. It never happened to me but I don't take chances. The world has become another place and statistics show that 90% of children who are defiled/raped, it's done so by people known to them. And sometimes its not just defilement, your children can be introduced to pornography. So let's protect our children. My motto "shuku kila mtu".

Just because you were in my past, doesn't mean we have to move into the future together. Wish me well, I wish you well. Whoa! Truth! How refreshing to be so raw and so honest. She reminds me somehow of my childhood, I felt and still fight feeling unwanted and not worthy enough, and because my mum was very strict, I couldn't be close to her and open up about my feelings, so I ended up being rebellious as a defence mechanism but inside me I was the biggest coward. I had to do that to shield me from bullies at school and home, and it really worked for me. I am now all grown, very conservative and try so much not to be out there for reasons well known to me, when I see successful stories of people out there, all I do is say a silent prayer to God for Him to remember me aswell. I am honestly not very well mentally, I feel tired because all my life, I have lived to fight one thing after another.

I feel like I've been hiding all my life after watching and listening to her. Sometimes I feel like I've failed the people I love the most, especially my parents. I used to be at the top of my class, but life is teaching me something different. Many people who knew me back then think that I became a doctor, a societal expectation that at one point drained me emotionally. At the university, I changed courses several times and ended up pursuing a degree course that never helped bring a coin into my pockets. Today, I eat and sleep math and art. Life is a journey with many paths. We choose some and find ourselves on other unexpected paths, good or bad. But we have to keep pushing.

I love your boldness and your journey of finding who you are. As teachers we need to dig deep into the lives of our students and take time to understand who they are and be slow to judge and call them names.

Dear parents be very careful with those relatives and even the workers. I know too well about sexual abuse from relatives and also our shamba boy exposed my siblings to pornography. These stories are now very common. Never trust anyone with your kids, its so sad that even some fathers molest their daughters and get them pregnant. The damage and trauma on children is almost irreversible 😢 it requires the mighty hand of Yahweh.

Sad to think that I personally had written her off as being "spoilt" yet she was going through (and had gone through) a lot. On behalf of my Quabbz sisters nasema pole. Baraka mama
