    Annoyingly I don’t have a treadmill, although dreaming of one in our workshop-future-workout-studio-yet-to-be-transformed.
    But am rowing a Zwift runner avatar almost daily, and love what the Zwift environment provides. It also helps connect me to a fabulous runner community (ZLDR) that helps keep me rowing.

    While I was still in high school, I could safely run around my mountain home it was refreshing, often damp and sometimes required a little puzzle-solving with the way in which movements had to change to suit the terrain. I think it's safe to say outdoor running is irreplaceable. When I moved to a rather traffic filled area for university which was a little more dangerous for running, a treadmill/long indoor walks had to suffice. I totally appreciate where this virtual treadmill idea is coming from, it can be a happy middle-ground. The race aspect seems like a super fun way to gain some confidence before running real-life races.

    That matches my opinion on Zwift, too. Treadmills can feel deadly boring & this is better than that--but they're missing something about the game of running. I ran a half this morning and the most fun part is deciding if I should pass someone. Forced exactly even splits, they feel harder than variable splits & there won't be much passing.

I think there is a big risk that people don’t squeeze so much out of them as they could, but in the other hand when you run in controlled environment you probably take better care about the pulse etc. This looked a lot of fun! maybe you have to invest in a new intelligent treadmill and a big display 😆😉🥳

    I feel no enjoyment from cycling on Zwift. I usually just choose a workout on my phone/tablet and put it where I can see it, then I put on a podcast or some light tv / sports (which acts as my primary enjoyment). Just seeing my avatar cycle through a virtual world feels kind of pointless. But when I am challenging myself to cycle up a mountain it is more fun, especially since I don’t have that type of terrain nearby. However, Zwift really needs to fix the interface for creating custom workouts (you can’t even do it on your phone or apple tv, you need a tablet or a computer).

    Nice review! I'm running on zwift for a while now, but can't go as fast as you! (added you though :) ) Too bad for the race but the leader was Julien guyon he is quite famous in the Zwift world and a very fast runner...
    Using runn will show the belt speed, might also be you would need a calibration if the speed isn't accurate. I use a Stryd for speed and cadence which I also use for outside, so my speed is identical indoors and outdoors, regardless of the belt speed.
    The race you took part is from the Running League so it's in fact a group of races over a few weeks :)
    And should you be racing more often, you can opt in to ZwiftPower which will provide official results for all events you join. Some races will require to have a HR monitor linked to Zwift.
    Hopefully will be able to have a run with you one day! :)

  • @MrEsPlace
    @MrEsPlace Год назад +1

    I hate running on a treadmill. It's like having a naturally aspirated car, say the 1984 Porsche 914. It was air cooled. They use these springs that as they heat up, they expand and open the air duct further. When they get cooler, they condense and tighten up, taking in less air. So, if you run an engine like that on a dyno (an indoor treadmill for cars used to measure horsepower and torque) in a garage, you'll overheat it. Running on a treadmill is JUST like that. We need air in our face while we run, the faster you go, the more air you need. I can run a 10K under an hour outside but can't get through a 5k on a treadmill. They're evil constructs of self-loathing and misery. Run outside. We're waterproof. It'll be fine.

      There are sadly many ways to cheat in running... When you see some runners going faster than the world record 5000m time, you can expect they are cheating... Some official WRTL events or Leagues are controlling a bit more though
