    My late mother was from Ireland. She was so happy when Pierce Brosnan became James Bond. I wasn't too happy because I was a huge fan of Timothy Dalton's Bond films. However, Brosnan was terrific in GoldenEye. He was also great in Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough. As for Die Another Day, the less said about that movie the better.

    I used to think GoldenEye was the Broz's best, and I still really like it, but TWINE really surprised me when I last watched it. It's close, but I think I prefer that just a smidgeon. If nothing else, I think TWINE contains his best performance as 007 - he really seemed to have found his groove by that point.

    • @gf4670
      @gf4670 5 лет назад +6

      I think GE is on the whole Brosnan's best, like they said in the video, but I agree that TWINE is his best performance. And I think TWINE has his best scene as Bond: when he kills Sophie Marceau and M is watching. His second best scene is TND when he's pouring vodka alone in the hotel and putting the silencer on the Walther waiting to see who shows up. The problem TND had IMO is that it felt incomplete and rushed in a way and the villain idea was good but Pryce doesn't pull it off as well. And TWINE's problem is that it did get a little too silly at points and, of course, Christmas Jones severely hurt the film the most.

Brosnan is a good actor, but physically, so undeveloped! He could have used some time in the gym! Judy Dench is a fantastic actress, but I never enjoyed a female M. (So glad she died off in Skyfall!) Best cast of Brosnan's bonds, also one of the most beautifully shot. They should have mentioned the cinematography. I think it's very interesting that they talked about Brosnan's body language, spot on, haven't ever heard reviewers mention it before. Piece of trivia: both Connery and Brosnan had an acting coach in common. Brosnan was more relaxed in TND, also put on more muscle. I think his best performance was in TWINE. DAD was a missed opportunity. A piece of trivia: Martin Campbell later directed Brosnan in "The Foreigner."

    Thought "Tomorrow Never Dies" was Brosnan's best. It brought back a more classic Bond feel which especially was underscored by David Arnold joining the series with his beautiful musical scores. The pacing and editing of this one was perfect, and it was a lot of fun! Plus, Brosnan really hit his stride in the Bond role here as he was just effortless in this movie. Goldeneye to me just didn't have a kinetic rhythm or pacing to it that moved me along. The opening was fantastic but the movie kept hitting brick walls with pacing after that. A lot of Goldeneye felt like parody as the movie was overly self-aware of Bond being somewhat ridiculous in a modern age. I love Martin Campbell but felt Casino Royale was his masterpiece. Tomorrow Never Dies just hit the right tone and that's why it's Brosnan's best.

    People try to say that Goldeneye was written with Dalton in mind but go through that whole film, there are many parts that are definitely Brosnan like the racing part at the beginning can you see Dalton pulling that off

    I like _GoldenEye_ much moreso than the next three: It has the least "eye roll factor" of them and, in my opinion, feels the most grounded. If that's not what you're looking for, that's fine.

    Yes, it was his best. As LALD was Moore's best. In fact, both movies are in my top 10. But I'm a book-Bond fan...so FRWL and Casino Royale are the top two!

    GoldenEye is indeed Brosnans´ best. However Live And Let Die isn´t Moores´ best. I would also say Licence To Kill is Daltons´ best. In the case of Brosnan and Craig their first movies were indeed their best film - By the way GoldenEye and Casino Royale shared the same director.

    I don't understand how you can say Natalya didn't do much, aside from tracking the villians to Cuba, she hacked Goldeneye and made it explode on re-entry as well as saying Bond's live at the end but hijacking the helecopter. She is far from a Stacy Sutton

    But would the plot be the same without Natalya?
    She reveals that General Ourumov stole the Goldeneye device.
    She tracks the bad guys to Cuba
    She fires the retro rockets on the second Goldeneye satellite, full filling her promise that she can disarm the device. Boris do break her code but can not send new command to the satellite because Bond has blocked the antenna. A perfect example of cooperation where the contribution of both parties are needed.
    And finally, she hijacks the chopper so Bond can escape from the satellite dish hub seconds before it falls and he would be killed.

    How about the last Bond movie of each actor is their worst? Arguably true for all including Craig, although now we know he's not stopping at SPECTRE lol.

      @brucesnow7125 5 лет назад +1

      Well, Craig has a great chance at leaving on a high note, they hired a really good director for Bond 25. Besides, Dalton's last movie was arguably his best, so not really true for all. I guess Lazenby doesn't count, because he had only one.

    Easy. Goldeneye. I think it's the only great Brosnan Bond film. TND &TWINE are enjoyable & I do like watching them still but neither are imo great Bond films. Though I do often find myself watching them over Goldeneye as they are both more fun. Goldeneye though is the better film.

    David and Joe it's an interesting analysis of Brosnon Best as 007. Tommorow Never Dies and World is not Enough are my favorite of Brosnon as Bond too. The female actors role is more powerful in that movies too. I also agree with you leading women character in Bond film has been powerful but somehow it get less commanding in Craig period. In the time of Roger Moore, Sean Connery, George Lazenby it has been more like a team effort which even Pierce Brosnon did it considerably along with other Bond women. Except in Casino Royale Craig has not formed a lasting allaince with any female actor hopefully Bond 25 will bring some great team work and a happy ending too.

    @TheBondExperience I think you guys missed the mark a bit on this one. When Danny Boyle said he wanted to "modernize" and make it more "feminist friendly", he wasn't referring to a lack of strong female leads. He was actually talking about the not-entirely-consensual ways Bond hooked up with females, particularly in the earlier films like Thunderball and Goldfinger. Everyone knows there have been quite a few strong female leads throughout the films, but you guys missed the point entirely.

    The score is excellent as well- Maybe not Ladies´ First but the rest of the score is fantastic.
    No the music doesn´t sound like a bad videogame. It sounds like genious use of sounds and percussions. By the way the love theme is very underrated.
    WHAT!??! You don´t think Natalya looks awesome? She is one of my favourites. Bondgirls are not necessarily supposed to be tough.

    I thought Tomorrow Never Dies was his best, followed by TWINE. They felt more modern. The one thing that always bugged me about Goldeneye was the music score. I absolutely hated the score. David Arnold and Michael Kamen are my favorite Bond composers.

    Personally - I think Tomorrow Never Dies is Brosnan's best. The thing that always bothers me slightly about Goldeneye are, Brosnan is a little bit skinny in it, his hair is too long, the whole scene on the Russian base seems to go on forever, and there are too many times when the villain has Bond captured and should just have shot him, instead of putting him on that helicopter, or locking him up on the train. It's still a very good entry in the series though.

  • @iainlodge1731

    Replying to whether Natalya is expendable, Natalya tracks down Alec's final base location when escaping from the train! There's something that if she wasn't in the film would have made a difference! She's a big part of tracking Boris, she's very much acting as a spy herself, also she is responsible for destroying the Goldeneye satellite by sending it off course! She literally saves the day!

    Cannot believe you could not think of Fiona Volpe's name. One of the best Bond hench person's ever.
    As for Goldeneye, it is another great Bond film. Fantastic PTS, all the villains are great, and I especially like Xenia Onatopp, she is fantastic. The little car chase through the mountain roads was great fun. Zukovsky is great as Bond's associate, and I liked Natalya. Yes, the movie changes if she is not in the film, she knows computers and Bond does not. That comes in handy several times. I also liked Samantha Bond as Moneypenny. Yes, the score was bad. I disagree on the "Bond, James Bond" line. The person he was talking to was right next to him, not across a gaming table, there would be no reason to raise his voice.
    You are spot on that Brosnan never got a great Bond film. I always say, put Craig in DAD and does the movie change? No. Put Brosnan in CR and you still have a great movie. I would argue Brosnan had three very good Bond films, only DAD suffers and that was not his fault. Next to Connery, Brosnan is my favorite Bond.
