The three I had were bloody awful - Two 3 series and one five - funnily enough the last time my company changed cars they offered me an accord. I took it as I was fed up with all the problems with the BMW's plus sitting on the hard shoulder waiting for the AA. I've had the accord just over two and a half years ( 58,000 miles) and haven't even had a bulb go yet. First time I've had a Honda but its certainly opened my eyes.
not even close, the NSX wins hands down, sounds better, looks better, has far more history and excitement behind its name. and the NSX smokes it in every performance metric.
I much prefer the looks of the i8. And who cares about the history to their names especially when the NSX is nothing like its predecessor or what made it special? Who would buy a car for it's name? That's shallow. And in all honesty, I couldn't give any less of a fuck about those performance metrics. Every stupid kid these days goes nuts over numbers track times 0-60 times. That's not what driving is about. Smh...
NikoBell12 buy a car for its name? Mmm 911 fanboys? Since Porsche stopped making real engines in the late 90s, I believe buyers of modern 911s are just buying a name.
+Va B you must be reallyyyy fucking stupid if you think 997 and 991 Porsches are not great cars, regardless of the 911 name. I guess winning comparisons all over the world must mean nothing? 911 R, Mezger of the GT's, 9000rpm screamer in the 991 GT3, none of those ring a bell? Even the Carrera S NA engines revved and screamed like a proper Porsche.
+justin bouche Sound is subjective, Looks are subjective, and being completely honest, this new NSX has no correlation other than name than with the old NSX. The old NSX pushed the boundaries of what people expected out of Honda, out of SUPERCARS in general. It taught established supercar makers a lesson, it drove like a dream. The new NSX, when compared to its competitors, checks none of those boxes. I'd sooner buy a R8 V10 Plus or a 570S, and deal with the lesser fuel economy than spend $200,000 of my hard earned money on a second-rate car. And dude, if the NSX doesn't smoke the i8 in every performance metric, with ALL that extra horsepower and that premium price, that would be the nail in the coffin for the NSX.
Yea, but if you had $200,000 to spend on a car, the only reason an intelligent person would buy the NSX over the 570S, R8 V10 Plus, or 911 Turbo S, is if they've already have had those cars at one point or another.
Arman Talwar the i8 is not a serious sports car let alone supercar. It really is irrelevant...just a marketing exercise with bicycle wheels and sound effects.
The i8 is underrated as hell because it has only 360hp but remember it's the first hybrid sport car, the first car under 200 000$ to have a carbon tub, the first car to have laser lights, built with sustainable materials, and as quick as an M4 (but it came out before the M4).
You know, at 200,000 if the best argument your'e making is an M4, your logic is very flawed. A lot of cars, without fancy carbon tubs and gizmos mind you, shame the i8 in temrs of looks, speed and value fo rmoney. So if someone is buying an i8, its purely from a fascination or "heart wants it: kind of jig, and definitely not numbers. I agree however that its a scientific marvel, but perhaps just not for me. Its like early adopting VR (occukus, vive) great products, just that i dont want to be the guinea pigs for them. I'll buy one when the experience is AAA, even if at a solid premium! Infact i'd go far enough to say, i'd buy an i3 over the i8. But maybe thats just me.
Yes, considering even I knew that, I couldn't believe it when he went on about it. And, what the heck does Gorilla Glass have to do with it? Was it written in the marketing brochure?
But it's not like BMW is playing back some totally different engine sound inside the car. It's the actual engine sound which is just a bit amplified and audio processed. After that it just gets piped into the car. The reason why you can hear even the crackles from the engine through the speakers as well is exactly because of that. It's a recording of the real engine and not "fake". When you listen to the car from the outside it doesn't sound that bad either. @Bill Burki: The engine is basically directly inside of the car behind the back seats and is only separated from the passenger cabin by a piece of Gorilla Glas. Since it's much thinner it probably doesn't absorb much of it's sound as well as if it were normal glas.
I don't wanna disappoint you, but the sound of the i8 inside the cabin is not the real sound of the engine... it's artificially produced... it comes from the speakers...
It's actually an option. You can switch it off. Is it on or off in this video, I have no idea. Personally, I can't stand the though of fake engine noises piped in through speakers... regardless of how it sounds. Fake is fake.
I like the i8 despite all the hate it gets. I feel it is a sportscar with killer looks, everyday usability and good running costs.... I've only seen one on the road and it attracts a lot of eyes
The i8 looks like a bad prototype from Tron that should have never been released while the NSX looks to have taken styling cues from McLaren and the R8 with a Japanese twist. I'd rather take the NSX.
i8 looks better inn person, videos don't do justice to this car, and it's really a matter of personal taste. Why you say it should never have been released is a weird thingn to say. It's basically a prototype from 2009 and for a sport car that handle well, has nice torque (despite low HP figure), does well over 55 MPG even with an heavy foot and on top of that easily daily drivable, not sure why they shouldn't have released it. NSX also a lot more expensive, mine will be 200K and will only get it in June 2017, while I had my i8 ready in 2014.
I have only one problem with the BMW: it's a shame it does not have a straight 6 cilinder. They did all the effort in making a drivers BMW again, but they forgot their most important key ingredient. Which does not mean that I say it's a bad car, by no ways. But the NSX just made me realise what I was missing in the i8 all the time. Looks are on pair. some might not like, but I do! It is like what we in the 80s tought that would be the future, finally comed to life!
People keep mentioning i8 and 130mpg...But not mentioning it only does that in "electric only" mode which lasts like 5 minutes. The rest of the time you're getting regular fuel economy for a ~300hp car and around the same performance as a light/2 door ~300hp car. The NSX, while being late to the "GTR like performance" game, has at least supercar performance not just looks and price.
mie1e No, they do an estimate which is the equivalent to mpg, that's why cars like the Tesla model S (100% electric), the Volt in electric mode and so on are rated around 100+ mpg when in reality it should be infinity. Every person who's driven the i8 and looked at the fuel economy, especially if driving it normally mentioned around 20-30mpg like any car with a similar engine.
The i8 does about 25 to the gallon pushed hard and driven enthusiastically, it averages 40 on a mixed cycle. Which is actually really impressive, considering that cars with similar performance are at least 10mpg off those figures driven in a similar manner. E.G BMW's own M2, which is not as fast as this and a typically 10mpg off.
vulcanproject well it gets similar mpg and performance to maybe a wrx or evo but I mean we're talking about a much more expensive car so a bit better or worse fuel economy should not be your reason for buying one. A model s will get better equivalent fuel economy while accelerating much faster and being a lot more spacious and useable. Really, the i8 is all about the looks, its offers basically nothing else over other cars.
Oh no, Evos and Imprezas have TERRIBLE fuel economy. It has far better fuel economy than those. An Evo X FQ330 for example which is not nearly as fast an i8 cannot do more than 20mpg. Literally ever. Even if you pushed it off a cliff with the engine turned off I am pretty sure it would still guzzle fuel as it fell. A WRX is barely any better. I agree that at this price, the BMW i8 is in a niche fuel economy is hardly a reason for buying one. You don't go to buy the most economical car that costs this much, for sure. But my admiration of the i8 is that it DOES deliver better fuel economy, running costs and emissions lower than anything with this level of performance. We live in an environmental world (whether you buy into it or not) where the internal combustion engine is rapidly becoming 'THE ENEMY!' and performance cars are 'THE ULTIMATE ENEMY!'. The i8 exists and displays technology that might save the ICE and keep it alive a little longer. As a car lover, I will mourn the inevitable death of the ICE. So just for this, I am very happy the i8 exists and certain it is worthy.
Think about how many more i8 BMW would sell if it were just an ICE inline 6 turbo. Call it M8 with a manual option and collectors as well as drivers would be all-over it. Carbon chasis with rear engine and manual.......just build it BMW
Why, does it matter? If he thinks it sounds good, why would it change his opinion if it’s coming from the speakers? Really think about that for a second - there are many things in life that you probably enjoy that are artificial, if it looks like a bear and sounds like a bear and smells like a bear and feels like a bear, then it’s a bear, it doesn’t matter if it’s actually a dog
I didnt actually realise how similar their silhouettes are. Generic obviously, but you can see how they're looking at the same details in the wind tunnel for shaping these cars. I'm not a fan of either of them, but both are indeed very impressive.
Every Acura v BMW Competition: Acura TLX vs BMW 3 Series Acura RLX/Honda Legend vs BMW 5 Series Acura MDX vs BMW X5 Acura RDX vs BMW X3 Acura/Honda NSX vs BMW i8 (I like both Acura and BMW)
Colds I imagine they don't want to offend to ensure they get the cars from the manufacturer in the future. I totally agree with you - if there are any negatives, they're really nothing significant. I'd like to hear Chris Harris's take on these two.
great to see u come to a track. road reviews are great, but without a track take, it feels a little incomplete. The track is where i presume one gets to really know and feel a car.
In person the rear of the i8 is honestly the best part. Nothing ugly about it. Nothing ugly about the NSX either. You guys need to invest in some glasses.
Thank you - I saw the NSX yesterday for the first time in person, and my god does that thing look sexy, and it has the presence of a godness, you cant miss it.
If they're eco cars why only track, track, track and the claimed mileage. I would have liked to hear how they averaged in real life driving for example. I8 is obviously underpowered against NSX, does it fare better in terms of consumption at least ?
I really wish they would take the twin turbo v6 powerplant and drop it in an accord for around 40k. Make it the top trim and it'll appeal to many car enthusiasts.
THTT Productions Keep in mind that it will still be front wheel drive. One of the cheaper ttv6 cars I see is an Infiniti Q50 Red 400 or whatever for 51k starting. But that's RWD.
Superb Video. Like your Style fresh, honest and based on what you are experiencing. No BS. The way I see is 2 different approaches. BMW basically targeting the GREEN stuff and Honda doing their best by using the Hybrid portion as part of the Performance. I really love what I see from Honda. Believe this is the right track for the future supercars. And is so stunning. Kudos Honda Once again showing the world how this needs to be made.
Perry Watkins i noticed them as soon as i saw them in person a couple years ago. Literally like bicycle tyres. My eyes now go straight to the tyres every time!
They do look weird... but if you can still have good grip with narrower tyres, what's wrong with that? Efficiency is as much a part of performance as any other aspect of a fast car!
Either car would look good in the right colour , but the fuel consumption isn't even close . The Acura has barely better fuel rating than a Corvette , the BMW gets just about the best fuel rating . I would take the I8 in black , and anyone who thinks they need more power is crazy .
the i8 needs to take out the rear buckets, slap in an inline-6 and make it visible through the glass, maximize the electric motor hp and make it a 3-spd, and add a rear diffuser.
nothing has that...you dont understand engineering...even the Lambo Sian has a shitty 60 horsepower super capacitor, but it's the way the burst is released makes it as fast as the Aventador
These cars are not really in the same category. That said, it's a choice between the utility and refinement of the BMW and the track-ready performance and "Honda quality" of the NSX.
Considering depreciation, you can get an i8 under 100k within 3 years of the model year. Doubt you find any decent nsx for under 120k right now no matter what year model.
I would have loved the NSX to be launched with the v10 as was initially planned. A simple light sports car with a hell of an engine appeals to me much more than this car which maybe makes more power than the v10 would have but is heavy and overly complicated
0:32 notice subliminal.. what are yt channels becomming i wonder.. is there a free will to chose what individual like and want or is somone trying to influenece in one way or another???
I don't recall where it said, that the i8 from the rest looks like its giving birth to a 911 Porsche, but it looks absolutely true to me. The nsx in its Tour mode drive like an accord & understate understeers to that = stability & comfort, in quiet mode it's all electric for a full city/urban commute. In sport mode it's more n plush & quiet GTR the those avoiding the Boy racer stigma = I like & really want. The i8 is STI wrx fast until the battery runs out = more lag then it's just plain wrx quick but more fun than the NSX in more driving situations. It just as exotic, with more brand cache = BMW telling statement hybrid driving, Hollywood elite types. This car is your equal, out the Prius or Volt & into this. I like it, would love to have it, but would pertinent l probably rather the fantastic M2 u reviewed awhile back. I think the nsx is more value for money plus its essentially an accord coupe, an hybrid with a usable full electric mode + a true supercar. The i8 is a good car, is what the original Delorean tried to be, Groundbreaking & Fast. but it's really just ba carbon M2, with exotic styling performance wise & a really fast i3 econ wise, a bit overpriced but those who can afford these cars don't factor that in, I guess, just personal preference, "babe what u think I should get the nsx or the i8" decisions decisions, luckily don't have that stress
Moderate price for sport car, beautiful/aesthetic, high performance, not used by a million mass yet (non mainstream), and its a japanese honda. Nsx everytime
I think that the Honda shouldn't bear the 'NSX' name. I just don't see how it follows the legacy of the previous generation NSX in basically every aspect
Guido Encalada the original nsx was a leap forward in technology compared to other sports cars of its time and this is too in a sense since there's nothing else on the market right now with its advanced tech and its the successor to the original thats why the called it the nsx
because it is basically a mini 918....literally all the same tech, at a fraction of the cost... Just like in the 90's when it was a mini ferrari at half the price.
Good luck having fun with that car lol don't you know that it is very hard to get inside the car and it doesn't matter if the look of the BMW i8 is cool if it is very hard to get inside
fabri gaming as someone who’s climbed into one before, it’s not that difficult at all. The sill is pretty wide but it’s tolerable. All you do is sit down on the seat first and then swing your legs over the sill. There isn’t any struggle to it. It’s actually kind of easy.
I’ve driven both cars and preferred the i8. Nsx steering feel is too numb. Bmw steering isn’t the greatest either but feels more like it’s actually connected to something
Pity this test wasn't carried out on the UK roads. As that's were these cars will live in the real world. Unfortunately track testing has become the new UK road testers MO.
Nsx any day. Looks better. More power better sound. And it's a Honda it is reliable
hell yea!
and Bmw isn't reliable?

nollypra Fair enough. But maybe you were just unlucky. My family has only had beemers and they have all been pretty reliable
i think BMW is also reliable but has slightly poor electrical system in general.

how did it work ou t?

going with what everyone else is saying, the i8 definitely looks better in person. videos make it look a lot bulkier than it is

Could you imagine if Honda and BMW genuinely teamed up to create the next generation NSX and i8?
I have watched allot of RUclips car host. I have to tell you..... your by far the best. liked and subscribed well done from San Antonio Texas.
Is that NSX the first production model? 8:09 it says #0000
It's a pre-production car
Akcc C
the BMW is beter
Abdulah mohamed not for performance, that’s for sure.
Hybrid-sportscar is what id categorise these cars at!
Could of read magazine about each car and got the same analysis I got from this video. Kinda wanted to know how the i8 does against the NSX.
I was waiting for someone to finally do a comparison between these 2!
Think about how many more i8 BMW would sell if it were just an ICE inline 6 turbo. Call it M8 with a manual option and collectors as well as drivers would be all-over it. Carbon chasis with rear engine and manual.......just build it BMW
Blake Swan that would be epic
Blake Swan epic
Rear engine?
SenszR it has back seats so it cant be mid engine. It would be rear engine where the current three cylinder is located
Blake Swan But that would be like double the weight back there.
Great video xcar

Is the i8 the one with windows that don't roll down all the way? I forget.
Yea it's the i8
Great video bro. Make a drag race with this two
Corvette grand sport makes a pretty good case for highly refined old tech, though both these are excellent as well.
I love this channel and all but you're way too easy on cars, it's as if everything is 10/10 for you
I agree...he said these cars were communicative. The chassis may be but the steering is certainly not.
Colds I imagine they don't want to offend to ensure they get the cars from the manufacturer in the future. I totally agree with you - if there are any negatives, they're really nothing significant. I'd like to hear Chris Harris's take on these two.
He's reviewed the NSX on Top Gear and he said he liked the car.
By the way, with proper tires a normal NSX will beat some and be very close to the cars in this segment, then imagine when Type R version comes?
TheKingkingg type R seems like vapor ware. Nothing new in terms of release date or anything on it.
Yeah it probably won’t happen unfortunately it didn’t sell well for honda to justify a different, more costly type r :(
7:26 I think something happened down there for him
great to see u come to a track. road reviews are great, but without a track take, it feels a little incomplete. The track is where i presume one gets to really know and feel a car.
8:39 why does the wheel well liner look like its chewed up already ?
People mention "reliability" but totally forget about "handling", "performance", and "chassis". How naive!
1981 BMW M1 vs 1991 Acura/Honda NSX would be inserting to see, both build Motorcycle's too,
Why do both these cars look so good in the front, but ugly in the back? Is this a trend now?
likely a safety stuff. like headlights have to be in a certain height etc.
Nut Case i8 looks ugly but nsx doesnt
TANK The i8 has the ugliest back but the prettiest front contrary to the NSX. I personally don't like either of these cars' looks.
In person the rear of the i8 is honestly the best part. Nothing ugly about it. Nothing ugly about the NSX either. You guys need to invest in some glasses.
Thank you - I saw the NSX yesterday for the first time in person, and my god does that thing look sexy, and it has the presence of a godness, you cant miss it.
why put the I8 against the nsx?.... that's not a fair match up...the nxs is a super car... the I8 is not
If they're eco cars why only track, track, track and the claimed mileage. I would have liked to hear how they averaged in real life driving for example. I8 is obviously underpowered against NSX, does it fare better in terms of consumption at least ?
"small set of seats for those don't like their children " Comment of the century
I really wish they would take the twin turbo v6 powerplant and drop it in an accord for around 40k. Make it the top trim and it'll appeal to many car enthusiasts.
Accord Supersport
Twin turbo v6 for 40k? You wish. 70k min.
Okay maybe I was low balling it min 55k
Keep in mind it would still be an Accord
THTT Productions
Keep in mind that it will still be front wheel drive.
Kudos Honda Once again showing the world how this needs to be made.
i8 is lame out the factory but you should see the mods I made to it....
Guys,if the NSX and i8 are already so good in their first generation...imagine how amazing they're going to be in their second generation!
this is the 2nd gen NSX fool
Amuranday oops I meant 3rd gen but 2nd gen hybrid nsx
I've never realized how narrow the rear tires are on the i8. Now I can't stop looking at them. They are so ugly! Lol
IKR, now it looks like the i3 all the time :D
Good cars, good video. Keep up with a good work.
I thought it was the Acura NSX. I know Acura is a sub company of Honda but is there any difference between them?
Either car would look good in the right colour , but the fuel consumption isn't even close . The Acura has barely better fuel rating than a Corvette , the BMW gets just about the best fuel rating . I would take the I8 in black , and anyone who thinks they need more power is crazy .
castle combe, love it, nice one
That v6 sounds amazing on the nsx
the i8 needs to take out the rear buckets, slap in an inline-6 and make it visible through the glass, maximize the electric motor hp and make it a 3-spd, and add a rear diffuser.
when will the 410 video be coming out?
How much does it cost to hire Castle Combe like this? It must be so awesome to have it for yourself
Is there no Acura NSX in england
This i8 should have had BMWs V8 coupled with an electric motor to compete with Audi and Mercedes!
nothing has that...you dont understand engineering...even the Lambo Sian has a shitty 60 horsepower super capacitor, but it's the way the burst is released makes it as fast as the Aventador
These cars are not really in the same category. That said, it's a choice between the utility and refinement of the BMW and the track-ready performance and "Honda quality" of the NSX.
Very good!
The i8 looks like it came out of the 90's. NSX Ftw.
Can you tell me about your jacket I need one?
Considering depreciation, you can get an i8 under 100k within 3 years of the model year. Doubt you find any decent nsx for under 120k right now no matter what year model.
I really liked the i8 when i drove it, fun car - and yes, everybody stares at the car, all the time :D
I would have loved the NSX to be launched with the v10 as was initially planned. A simple light sports car with a hell of an engine appeals to me much more than this car which maybe makes more power than the v10 would have but is heavy and overly complicated
NSX sound killing me😍😍😍
Personally i think the Acura badge sports it better.
0:32 notice subliminal.. what are yt channels becomming i wonder.. is there a free will to chose what individual like and want or is somone trying to influenece in one way or another???
Both cars are awesome. I'd choose the nsx
as a little Mexican girl once said, "why not both?"
The NSX inside camera looks messed up! or is it just me? :)
maybe the people from bmw are engineers, but the people from honda are artists for sure
Honda is best brand of the world
The i8 needed an I6 from the get go.
0:33 what happened?
Yeah I just saw that, I know its probably an editing error, but its like some subliminal advertising not to get a BMW haha
'Cleanly and safely as possible' implying the BMW is not safe hahaha
Interesting choice of words at 10:00 mark... Molly cuddle ;)
V-tec kicks in yo
Wow engine #0000? That's really nice
It's weird watching external shots of the i8 when you know that exhaust sound is fake and only audible from the inside
I cannot get over that too man.
I've heard it from the outside and it's the same sound. It has a speaker on the outside too
honda nsx? or acura nsx???
Depends what market. In Canada/USA it's Acura.
Damn, I wasn't expecting Carfection to get fooled by the fake engine sound coming from the speakers of the i8.... What a sad day.
Wait I'm confused, is it the Honda or Acura NSX?
Scuba Gaming, Both, It depends on where you live in the world, if you live In America then it's an Acura.
Moderate price for sport car, beautiful/aesthetic, high performance, not used by a million mass yet (non mainstream), and its a japanese honda. Nsx everytime
i8 is more of a high end sportscar but these two would definitely be cars I'd look at for the same reasons
James Fonda Your an idiot the NSX is multiple steps above the i8.
T AN nice response to a reasonable opinion mate, go on you’re gonna succeed in life
His voice so similar to Richard Hammond, especially when you don't see his face.
RESPECT ONE LOVE
id take the i8 just cause how it looks.
@0:32 SLICK EDITS
this guy has the voice of Richard Hammond
1:01 Sim simma who got the keys to my *Bimma*
I can't take a reviewer seriously when they are oblivious to the fact the engine sound on the BMW is fake.
To think about it, electric cars are catching up really fast and lots of companies want to dominate this are.
Honda NSX Reply section
Seems like the i8 is what the new nsx should have been, super light weight, efficient aero and super mpg. Things that aren't easy to achieve.
Wow! Chester Bennington from Linkin Park is now reviewing cars!
the I8 lacks power, I mean let's be real it's more of a sports car than a super car at under 400 ps
I’ve driven both cars and preferred the i8. Nsx steering feel is too numb. Bmw steering isn’t the greatest either but feels more like it’s actually connected to something
The NSX is better in every way.
NSX any day 😎
It is unprofessional to put 2 different level of cars together and just compare
Pity this test wasn't carried out on the UK roads. As that's were these cars will live in the real world. Unfortunately track testing has become the new UK road testers MO.
the auditors at BMW,,wanted to TEST DRIVE ON Terra mehr Firma. .in Austria ,just a TAD higher gradient..; der prize est.= bessr Essen; +1
Talks about i8 "it makes the right sound" yeah! Inside of the car.. through the speakers
