What happened between the 200X He-Man series and MOTU Classics toy line? Mini Comic 9 revealed!

- Scott ToyGuru Neitlich discusses the time period between the end of the 200X Mike Young Production Series and the start of the MOTU Classics storyline. Key events laid out by the TV show's writers that were hinted at in Classics (through bios and mini comics) but never really spelled out in full. What would have been a "flashback story" in MOTUC mini comic # 9 is revealed for the first time!

Yeah we were really going for epic and had so few pages to do so. But it did work to a degree. ;-)
Justin there’s a huge book with all of the mini comics out there floating around I got a copy for $20 on eBay, worth it. And a lot cheaper and easier than buying and hunting them all down

This feels so much more complicated than I pictured. The way I see the story going Hordak had always planned on Keldor releasing him (and the rest of the Horde) from Despondos. Keldor had planned on using Randor as a ritual sacrifice in the Pool of Despair. But to lure him there, Keldor kidnaps Randor's babies. Randor and friends go to rescue them, but in the fray, only manage to save Adam and Adora is dropped into the pool and crosses into Despondos. But, since she's a baby, it isn't enough to release Hordak. And Keldor/Skeletor continually fail to release Hordak. Meanwhile, over on a far off planet called Etheria, Hordak has another secret disciple in Light Spinner. Her first attempt to free Hordak ad betrayal of Mystacor leads to her disfigurement and release of Adora. But, she eventually gets it right, after having raised Despara for 15 or so years in the NEW Horde, which is run by this nebulous dude from another planet that calls himself Horde Prime. So Shadow Weaver finds a way to release just a handful of Hordemen trapped in Despondos (Mantenna, Leech, Grizzlor and Vultak) and the new Horde has used their new Trooper robot technology to build a body that can house Hordak's soul and work with his magic or produce weapons that can behave like his magic would have let him. So Hordak takes control of the Etherian Horde and sets his sights on conquering this planet AND Eternia. Before he can turn his sights to taking the whole Horde back from this Horde Prime guy

We're now living in a time where cancelled-too-soon shows get picked up by new studios and revived for new seasons. With the 2 recent MOTU shows by Neflix reigniting its popularity, it's possible the 200X series could be revived. They could even base the story on MOTU Classics' story.

This is what good storytelling sounds like. It makes you care about the characters, whats their motivation, and explains everything in detail, but without sounding too lectury. If studios would care to tell a good story, and not just go by what "makes more money" (Marvel anyone?), fans would care, drive in caravans to it, and will sponsor the brand with their hard earned cash. This is why Lucas was successful with the first star wars trilogy. He didn't have to force it. It all happened organically, which is what many studios forgot how to do.

@@johnmorey720 Heck, when MOTU Classics ended, I still had a "Want List" of over 100 items. Came as cold comfrot to find out through these videos that many of them would've been made had the "Vintage Only Then Out" crowd threw a wrench into the works and caused the line to be foreshortened.
I stopped watching this video and started to watch the first episode of the 200X series and from the first couple of seconds you could tell it was amazing. I could also tell from the first few minutes that it was not for kids. Its pretty deep and complicated. It more reminded me of a R rated DC Animated movie. It didn't have much gory stuff but just the themes were for older people. I will finish the series now. Its actually good. All the 200X stuff from your videos inspired me to watch the 200X series.

The only problem with the plot is that King Randor only got the position of King because the Elders decided it. So there shouldn't have been anything from Skeletor to claim because of bloodline.

@@spectorcreative1872 oh cool nope then. You probably know the original he man toyline makers in one way or the other right? I do love the 2000s version though. I had a couple of Udon comics (i think) and loved the new take and the designs of both adam and He man. I watched a bit of the cartoon but those comics and those designs were bad ass.

We are now living in a time where cancelled-too-soon shows get revived and picked up by new studios, it's possible that 200X MOTU could be revived. Plus, there's the 2 recent MoTU series by Netflix, so there's interest. They'd probably base the story that MOTU Classics storyline.
@@foldabotZ The Netflix series had some pretty good moments. They set it up for the return of you-know-who at the end, but I'm sure getting all the licenses would be a nightmare...

It’s because people don’t appreciate things when they’re current. Like the N64 and Dreamcast. People want remakes of those games for example now, but when they were current, people only wanted their playstation. You see?
Personally, I like the figure but was never a big fan of the idea of Man at Arms turning evil. (perhaps because the Snake Men were by far my least favorite of the 3 evil factions, probably because they were featured in the least supplemental media back then).
Ah, if we only had the budget for more media for Classics...
@@spectorcreative1872 I imagined Episodes 41-52 being about a 3-way war of the Masters, Snakemen & Skeletor's army each at a 33% chance of victory.
Then at the end of Episode 52, Evil-Lyn would free Hordak, forcing the 3 factions to make a truce with each other, if ever to stand a chance against Hordak's might.
That be what Season 3 is about. Over the course of it, the 3 factions as they continue to fight their common enemy, would start to gradually loosen up on their prediciduce & aggression towards another. Then after Hordak's destruction in the series finale, the last few moments show the 3 factions now as 1, rebuilding the damaged Eternia, as a sign of hope for a better future.
Probably not what He-Man fans would like, but I thought that be a cool direction to take.
I presume the real Skeletor & King Hiss would've just joined Hordak in reality?
I would like to know how was She-ra introduce in this story line, because there it seems there is no Etheria or that she was kidnapped and raised by Hordak.

While it is very sad that the MYP series ended when it did, if it had continued for a fourth or fifth season, would we have the Master's Classic line? All those fun What Ifs.

Which DVD set did this comic book come with? I own all 3 volumes of the 200X MYP MOTU DVDs and I don't remember there being a comic book packed in with any of them. Only the art cards.

@@spectorcreative1872 Okay, that box set was released by Mill Creek after BCI went under. I looked at my volumes again and the 3rd volume does include the digital comic of the 40th episode. But was there a physical comic produced of that 40th episode?
My biggest question to this day: HOW was Evil-Lyn going to release Hordak from Despondos? Skeletor destroyed that one location, and He-Man stopped Marzo and Evil-Lyn later on.
Their were other locations.

Why did Mattel fail to make a 200x series sorceress? She was in every damn episode of that show. Other characters got 200x variants in that line, and you made Callix. . . . . . dies 5 seconds into a 20 second flashback. Just a massive failure in Mattels part.
The 200X toy line was not aimed at collectors, it was aimed at kids. And the Sorceress, while an important character to the show, was not one kids were interested in.

She was in every episode. You made concepts, fan creations, that stupid callix also multiple versions of other 200x characters, a collectors line is EXACTLY the place for the sorceress.

As much as I hated 200X, I still love all these videos.

So, is Orko & his race (Trollans) somehow related to Skeletor & his race (Gar)? I'm just asking because unlike the other races, they both have blue skin & an affinity towards magic.

The movie version of masters of the universe should definitely be fully CGI giving it sci-fi/fantasy universe not much different than Thor. I think to do it justice it would have to be something like avatar meets MOTU. With a story line that rated towards the collectors and true fans of that universe; would definitely buy up the toys/ statues. They really not really thinking about a random kid buying a throwaway toy. But a figure/statues where his dad, who was a fan when he was a kid, would definitely look at..”holy crap, THAT’S fucking JRAP-JAW. Can you take my money I’m throwing atyou Hollywood. Get your shit together and make this movie happen.

No. You're correct. I grew up loving the 80s show, but the 200X version IS better. Better storytelling, animation, action. The 80s one is perfect for little kids, but it doesn't hold up well when you get older and smarter.

Yeah such a shame 200x got shut down, I absolutely love where this was going... even would’ve been awesome to see them continue with new adventures storyline arc (although it should just been like a season long) and then have the hero’s come back and crown king he man, and reintroduce Dare son of he-man (for the first time lol!) and so on!! Also absolutely love snake-man at arms! Great idea especially from the marketing standpoint to have him build snake vehicles and robot/snake hybrid characters, and that brings in Clamp Champ as the new man-at-arms, and Teela finally becoming the sorceress!! Lots of cool stuff goin on!! Cant wait to see what’s next with the new Kevin smith MOTU!!!

Ugh why are they always trying to kill the Sorceress? Damn cant she just leave the castle like the one before her? No they have to actual kill her whoever wrote that story line you failed.

A lot of fantastic stuff here..... but man at arms turns into a snake and still wears a helmet? and the idea to turn him into a snake was for the sake of lame lame lame merchandise? thats the one huge fail among a ton of great ideas!
Well the helmet was stuck on his head after he became a snake and he couldn't get it off.
@@spectorcreative1872 if he could still build merch you'd think he could use tools to remove the helmet....especially if it were stuck which sounds painful. I'm sure it was a "keep the look for merchandising sake" but it doesn't look cool at all so its recognizable but I can't imagine it to be favored by many. For some reason I really liked Buzz Off as a kid but couldn't wait to remove and leave behind his stupid hat. Its not at all logical for a Bug creature to wear something that covers his antenna. I think I thought his transparent wings were cool and that his name was as close to a swear word as any toys name ever got. My seven year old brain didn't know that he looked like he was high as a kite.
I hope the new Netflix series touches on this content

I like the designs of 200x, but the cartoon was so bad. The dialog is just too corny. I love MOTU, but I can't even finish that series.
Well an all new show is coming soon to Netflix. Maybe that will be more up your ally!
