When you are using your Denon setup without serato how do you use your airhorn effects?

i have two choices, use a track i made up on the second layer with nothing but my effects and set them at cue points so i can trigger them...or, use virtual dj.

because the ddj xp1 and xp2 are not stand alone units.

So far, I haven't had any dropouts in the few time I've used them (6 times)...the farthest distance being about 150 ft.
