    There’s so many good lines in this episode - “I’m Donna and you’re a goner”, also “WELL, THAT’S ALRIGHT THEN!” for example. I love the deep references with the puppets of previous Nu Who companions, also the scene with 15 listing off events and people. I did not expect to hear “Spice Up Your Life” 😂 it had me cackling and puzzled, in a good way. I’m excited for 15’s era, The Church on Ruby Road looks good with the preview clips and episode stills.

    I saw a video the other day that turned me onto the idea of the Timeless Child. It's basically just a montage of things from as far back as the 3rd Doctor's run that really did foreshadow it. It was always there on some level. Not saying "this was always the plan", but it didn't come out of nowhere. The 3rd Doctor implied his actual age was somewhere in the several thousands of years, the 7th implied he was around at the time of Omega and helped create the Hand of Omega, the 4th MET Omega, who did bring up that the Time Lords weren't always capable of things like regeneration. It's wild, but it was always there. Some level of doubt about the origins we've been told. It's not bad writing, characters can just lie... Or be wrong, or not have the whole picture.

    Its been confirmed that the toymaker was the reason the bi-generation triggered. Both 14 & 15 are The Doctor, not two separate beings, and judging by what 15 said "I'm fine because you fixed yourself, we're timelords we are doing rehab out of order" it's easy to assume that 14 will take a break, live a normal life, regenerate into 15, and be sent back to the moment the bi-generation happened.

    • @commanderelite
      @commanderelite 7 месяцев назад +5

      That is part of the reason, the other part that fans are bringing up, is that 14 was still within his first 15 hours after regeneration, RTD said so when asked how long 14 was around before the bi-generation triggered. And if we remember what happened when he lost his hand when he was still within his first 15 hours, that may have been a factor along with the Toymaker

    The dialogue that Ncuti's Doctor gives, to me (and a fair few others that I've seen) implies that he is still the next Doctor. That after this period of healing and recovering and "rehab", that David's Doctor will somehow travel back in time in order to become this new Doctor, who has finally processed the trauma of all their long years.
    And yes, RTD has put forth his theory that runs counter to it, but... no. The idea that this is some kind of weird, non-linear loop is infinitely more interesting to me. It also just feels more right, like it's what the episode is trying to say.
    And I think it's a beautiful idea, especially in light of lines like "I'm okay because you fix yourself" and "we do rehab out of order" and "you're older than me". RTD brought the show back in 2005, declaring that the Time Lords were dead, and that the Doctor was responsible. The shadow of that trauma lasted for nearly twenty years, until RTD came back and said "And then the Doctor sat down with their friends, and they got better".
    Also, as per the novalisation, that is not the Noble-Temple house. That's the DOCTOR'S house, he bought a house that he lives in. The Ponds would be horrified.

  • @Iamtimeforsomethingnew
    @Iamtimeforsomethingnew 7 месяцев назад +1

    I personally loved this episode, and despite the whole kerfuffle with bi-generation (which I personally like the theory that, based upon what 15 said to 14 about doing therapy out of order and being fine because 14 took time to fix himself and being established as the older of the two, means that 15 comes from after 14 takes all the time to fix himself and eventually regenerates again into 15 who snaps back to that rooftop) I find myself really, really ok with it. I still find the Numbers to hold true as well, especially if me and a lot of others are correct in how bi-generation works (I also particularly like the idea that the only way it even happened was because the Toymaker was around breaking reality, having him lose because of his own actions ultimately would be perfect).
    A part of that is my bias towards the fact that finally a Doctor with David Tennants face is around for longer than an abysmally short amount of in universe time. 10 was around for roughly 9 or so years, and 14 was around until bi-generation for at most 15 hours, and in my opinion any incarnation existing for such a short amount of time is a majorly depressing tragedy that these entire three specials I was hoping there would be a gap 14 could get a lot of time in, and we got that!
    Following on from that, I am unsure if you have heard but the line about the Toymaker making a jigsaw puzzle of The Doctors History was put in by RTD to explicitly address the Doctors contradictory pass, namely the half-human stuff from the TV movie and The Timeless Child, which I find retroactively makes that arc much more interesting and acceptable as addition to canon, with it making it so 13 was being faced with her past literally being edited without her knowledge by a being she didn't know was there. The Doctor was originally born as a young boy who would become the version Hartnell portrayed, until the Toymaker started messing with things.
    My personal thoughts on the three specials are that they improved one after another. The Star Beast was rather good, Wild Blue Yonder was better, and then The Giggle here was just fantstic. I am more than excited for the era of Ncuti Gatwa and the 15th doctor, and look forward to your reactions to it all! Now, I should probably go watch your Classic Who reactions shouldn't I? I need to resume my watch through anyway.

  • @andrewbowman4611
    @andrewbowman4611 7 месяцев назад +2

    I tend to think of the new Tennant incarnation as a Mayfly Doctor. In fact, to expand the metaphor, he could be defined as chrysalis or cocoon for the Ncuti Doctor. After all, the "Fourteenth" is only the Doctor for a number of hours, so it's not impossible that Gatwa was already in there, so to speak. Once the Toymaker gets involved, the impetus for the Doctor to shed his old skin is provided.
    This also lines up with something RTD said on the iPlayer commentary; that all incarnations of the Doctor, at that point, retroactively bi-generated, creating a Doctorverse of sorts. However, I think that "14" will eventually fade away once he's healed sufficiently to move on. It's not perfect, but I think it makes sense for the most part.

    • @backtoearth1983
      @backtoearth1983 7 месяцев назад +1

      I love that theory, but it's completely wrong.
      Like they said, they are doing rehab out of order.
      14 is going to live a long time.. maybe a million years like he told Donna it woudl take to be OK. At that point he regenerates, but 15 does emerge from the regeneration, he emerges in the past from the bi generation (time is not linear here) 15 has already lived the MAYBE million years as 14, he has gotten better

    • @andrewbowman4611
      @andrewbowman4611 7 месяцев назад

      @@backtoearth1983 I don't know if it's completely wrong. It's all fairly ambiguous at the moment, I would say. There's very little evidence to suggest that 14 will regenerate into 15 at a later date; that'll just overcomplicate things, quite frankly.
      An idea I heard recently suggests that the mythological status of the bigeneration is absolutely the result of the Toymaker's intervention. As I said, the concept of retroactive bigeneration does seem to suggest that it's more likely that both the regenerated and unregenerated Doctors (from Hartnell to Whittaker, at least) co-exist in separate timelines; hence Seven's line in Tales of the TARDIS about having regenerated in one timeline but not in another. You might be right, though.

    • @CaptainScarLeg
      @CaptainScarLeg 7 месяцев назад

      @@backtoearth1983 I like how neat and tidy the "time loop" theory is, but I wish people would stop stating it like it's fact. It hasn't been officially confirmed anywhere (as far as I know) and while it's a good theory that could make sense, it doesn't really line up with things RTD has been saying. Watch the commentary for this episode and the behind the scenes clips. Bi generation is likened to an amoeba splitting in two suggesting it's similar to mitosis; a single entity splitting and forming two complete separate entities. He's also suggested that this bi generation may have rippled back through The Doctor's timeline splitting off each of his previous incarnations at the point of regeneration, a "gift of The Toymaker" he called it, meaning it was only possible due to his influence.
      RTD did call that idea a "theory" of his own though, likely meaning he hasn't committed to it yet so we won't know exactly what he's going to do until he confirms it or we see in later episodes. Personally I like the idea that 14 eventually regenerates into The Curator to explain that incarnation and how it had future knowledge.

    Just call Ncuti what he is The Fifteenth Doctor.
    I don't know how you can judge a story that has 3 missing episodes part of the problem is the reconstruction but people said "The Enemy of the World" was a boring story because Episode 3 was the only existing episode at the time but when they found the rest in Nigeria that story has become an all time classic but had the rest of "The Celestial Toymaker" had been found I think opinions would slightly change personally foe me I love that story and it's one of Hartnell's most memorable stories.
    Alittle error here Mel Bush is not the first redhead there's Liz Shaw and Turlough Mel was not regarded as one of the most popular companions back in the 80's as she was the screaming queen and had no character development but they did her better here.
    The Timeless Child is pretty much done and retconned The Toymaker said to him "I jumbled up your history do you like it?" So he's back to being a Time Lord I think RTD is slowly getting rid of it but not completely.
    The Toymaker skips Graham, Ryan, Yaz and Dan because they didn't have tragic endings.
    The woman picking up the gold tooth that scene reminds me of "Flash Gordon"(1980).
    I love Ncuti's entrance and his energy but hated that bi-regeneration I would had preferred that David Tennant had just simply changed into Ncuti it's nice as a one-off new idea but I hope it doesn't happen again.
    My understanding is 14 will still regenerate into 15 after his long settled life with the Noble family we just won't see in on-screen which is why 15 is fixed and happier.
    Overall the specials were good 1 and 3 were the best but this isn't what I would call an anniversary special.

      What the Toymaker actually says is "I made a jigsaw of your life". What's fascinating about that is that a jigsaw, when put together, reveals a complete picture. As such, it's a question of piecing it all together rather than discarding certain elements one may not personally like. That's the interesting part in my view.

    Ncuti's the Fifteenth Doctor, because 14 fades away back into the bi-generation, basically, 15 has all the memories from 14's existence, that's why he's fixed, he's done rehab out of order😅

    So now the 60th specials are all said and done, where do you stand on this Tennant Doctor? Do you consider him as the 14th? (I know you said you don't care but still.. they are 14 & 15) come on Alex admit you are wrong for once! 😆
    Also, I think there's probably not going to be too much angst with 15 as that's the whole point of 14 stopping so he can try and recover from everything including the timeless child and the Flux and, as others have said in the comments, it is implied that 14 will eventually become 15 properly hence the line "I'm better because you fixed yourself'.

      @thelivingbarfpoo2363 Well except the kids who were fortunate enough to watch and remember those episodes in the 60's that would now be in their 60s and 70s.
      But yeah no one after that would had watched it since the original tapes were wiped after broadcast.

      The reason why Turlough is a redhead is because Mark Strickson is a natural blonde but had to dye his hair red to differentiate himself from Peter Davison.

    Honestly given all the links i feel like watching classic is now compulsary for any fan of the shos
    Jo,Sarah Jane, Tegan, Mel, Ace all having big roles in episodes
    The frequent mentions of the Brigadier and now also Adric
    Daleks, Toymaker, Cybermen, Macra, Great Intelligence, Ice Warriors, Autons, Silurians, The Master, Alpha Centuri, Zygons, Sisterhood of Karn
    Cameo from Ian
    So many referencea to previous stories.
    I think theres so much that a new who viewer isn't getting. Kts one thing that bugs me with reactors like Shayla, they just refuse.

      It felt like fan fiction to me, and most of the ideas for these three specials were recycled from previous RTD scripts. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it definitely could have been better. A lot better.
