I feel like when chapters 3 + 4 release, we’ll know exactly who wrote this letter. Often Toby shows us information we can’t understand yet, that makes total sense later on. I’d love this to be Gaster but at the same time I can see why people are skeptical.
Mostly unrelated, but I think a MASSIVELY overlooked thing is that the gaster follower who talks about holding a piece of him ISN'T the guy talking with the thing in his hand, it's the thing in his hand. Look at the spirtes. The face in his hand's mouth moves, but his doesn't. The other follower's mouths move (I'm fairly certain) but his doesn't, only the thing in his hand.
I don't know who the author of this letter is, I'm leaning towards another piece of gaster, but I admit it's shaky, but alot of me just loves the idea of this clueless variant of Gaster who's just trying his best, he really is. But I can say they seem like a nice weirdo whoever they are, I like them.
@@avandorhu-3389except Gaster isn’t stuck OUTSIDE it, he’s all over it. He’s more connected to reality than anyone else because he’s everywhere and every when
I definitely think the author of the letter is the Chapter 3 secret boss. The meta element is because, much like the other secret bosses, his connection with Gaster has made him realize the world is a game. I think it makes since that possibly the last ‘teaser’ we get before Chapter 3 would be hinting at the Chapter 3 secret boss.
The thing is, neither jevil nor spamton know that deltarune is a videogame. Jevil sees the world as a game, but that's because he's completely right in his context. Remember that his dark world is made up of chess pieces and board games, his world is literally a game. Spamton talks about heaven, reaching up past the dark and into the light. What he's talking about is escaping the dark world and going to the light world. The back of his shop and the spamton neo fight are a painting of a blue sky with clouds. Those things don't exist in the dark world, he made them because of his visions of the light world The character in this letter pretty directly talks about deltarune the game, and references how long we've been waiting for the next chapters. That knowledge is above what spamton and jevil knew
@@Tulip_bip I see where you’re coming from with Jevil but personally that’s not how I always read it. I’ve always interpreted that Jevil literally knows about Deltarune the game. Also, I’ve always seen Spamton NEO’s dialogue in the Snowgrave fight as talking directly to the player and not Kris, chastising us for trying to achieve “freedom”. It’s like he knows about the game’s “your choices don’t matter” theme and knows we were trying to circumvent that by going down this alternate path.
The style of the japanese translation is specifically a style exclusive to undertale and the light world. So it seems unlikely that it could be a darkener, including a secret boss.
@JonnyO514 I think the part about jevil is nearly confirmed now because of the shadow crystals. Every secret boss will have a shadow crystal, and it seems very much like the shadow crystals are the things which really drove them insane. And when you use a shadow crystal in the dark worlds, it shows you a vision into the light world. So we know at the very least that both jevil and spamton have seen the light world. I say that this probably drove them insane because, darkners don't really know anything about the light world, so seeing it and realising that their world is made up of inanimate objects and toys would probably break their whole worldview Also, this might sound confusing, but I think that spamton is talking directly to us, but that he doesn't know us as the player of a videogame. Spamton himself is being puppeted by some unseen thing, he's meant to parallel what kris is going through. I think that we're not meant to be literally the player, but that whatever we are can be explained in the context of the game Gaster talks about meta things a lot, but he never really directly talks about how deltarune is a videogame. He talks about deltarune as some experiment created by him. So basically, I think that the meta things in deltarune are meant to be explainable in the context of the game
@@Tulip_bip No offense, but I feel like what you said about shadow crystals is just baseless speculation. There’s no evidence that it was the crystals only that drove them insane, especially when Seam explicitly says that Jevil met someone who TOLD him things. Especially when Seam also seemed affected just by hearing Jevil say that life was all a game, it’s as if being told “life is a game” was itself what drove Jevil insane. As for Spamton I think it could go either way. I subscribe to the theory that the heart is Kris’ soul being taken over by us. We are directly controlling Kris’ soul, meaning anyone talking to us is talking to the REAL person at the computer, with no middle-man entity. Maybe it depends on if you want Deltarune to go in that direction or not, but I really like the idea of some super-meta fourth wall breaking that is directly about the real person playing the game.
*The other blank letter is known to be from Alphys, because of the url. (By the way the Mystery Letter's url is "sssssssr", reffering to the letter's rarity being Super Super Super... Rare) *The word "strange" is also ringing some alarm bells, i thiiink it was mentioned a few times related to the Knight? Or Gaster? Someone made a video on that. *Even if "Deltarune" only makes sense to be mentioned by Gaster, he never says DELTA RUNE (with a space) ((Yep I see that was already pointed out in the video))
The word strange is used to describe the knight and the everyman. Seam called the knight "a strange knight" and everyman's sprite file name is "strange man"
I think this letter could be from Gaster for the Chapter 3/4 secret boss, the face and "coat" from the spamton sweepstakes seem to be hinting them, Gaster offering help is what they did with Spamton, he may be offering his help again, and asking them if they are enjoying deltarune could be the way he informs the true nature of the world to this person, as it seems the secret bosses are people that come in contact with Gaster and they go mad after learning the true nature of the world, Gaster delivering all of this in a friendly yet intriguing manner would be very interesting
something i think about very often is that there is multiple variations of the wingdings font, and how that could play into how gaster was shattered into pieces
It's always amazing to me how some people in the community are SO against Gaster coming into the plot, when, based on all the breadcrumbs we have, I'm 99.9% sure that the rest of the game will heavily involve him. I don't think this letter is from him, but... come on. We're going to have to talk about Goners and all the "forgotten" characters at some point, and that's sure to be a big chunk of the eventual storyline. Is it really THAT much of a stretch to think that Gaster's involved/responsible for what's happening currently, fellas?!?!? The game literally STARTS with his theme, and people still use the "hurr, that's just an arpeggio!" excuse to pretend like it's not in plain sight.
@@avandorhu-3389 I want Gaster content as much as the next person, but Gaster has ONLY been written to be a serious, intelligent person thus far (and I like that about him, it's different from ALL other UT/DR characters and it contrasts the protagonists well). I doubt Toby would break that for the first time... through a NEWSLETTER. I'm someone who probably tries to find Gaster in everything, but I just don't see him in this. I've loved/followed Gaster lore for 8 years, but I've never thought that he was the egg man, I never thought that he was [REDACTED], and now I don't think that this is him. I think there's a whole seedy underbelly of "lost", "forgotten", UNUSED characters that we've yet to meet. More than likely, this is one of them... Mike, or "IMG_FRIEND". And I've seen people say that the "Delta Rune" part "gives it away that this is Gaster", but that's not something only he knows about. Ralsei knew about the "legend of Delta Rune", a legend "whispered by time and space" (wink wink, nudge, nudge), so it's more than likely that other characters know about "Delta Rune" as well. Also, Gaster only ever talks to us when he has something to gain from it apparently. He gets us to install SURVEY_PROGRAM, he gets us to create the vessel, he gets us to continue our game if we die, and he guilts us if we choose to not continue. He never reaches out for anything else unless it benefits HIM.
We are not against Gaster coming into the plot. The letter is just too weird and doesn’t feel like Gaster. Since the beginning a lot of people felt off reading the letter and didn’t knew it was Gaster even before the thing of the Japanese translation came out (some users of Reddit when the letter was first released there in English). Making us doubt IS INTENTIONAL!! Probably Toby saw we were out of things to discuss about xD (lol). And part of the theory of being Mike or image friend is that he or whatever they are is friend of Gaster, or is like one of the closest people to Gaster… actually if you red the twitter posts all of them have as an assumption that this image friend character is directly related to Gaster and the Device that Gaster created because image friend is in all caps just like all the other stuff that was in the goner maker sequence. What we don’t know yet is if image friend is Mike or not. This could be like the first step into Gaster direct introduction into the plot, maybe the only character that has interacted directly with him or something. Also, the another him theory is very likely, that is still related to Gaster and could explain the speech difference. Gaster has NEVER been an inconsistent character. Since undertale 8 years ago he talks in the same way, and he never ever had doubted himself… the person who wrote this letter is full of self doubt and contradicts himself all the time! It is weird!! The doubts are very well thought and obviously Gaster is part of this. Even so, part of this theory is that probably the one that made Mike forget about Spamtom was Gaster, and this is why this unknown character is asking for our help. Also, we know that after Mike disappeared Gaster talked to Spamton. So, Gaster has never been out of all of this mess lol.
7:45 I actually think this is a lot less of a stretch than you thought! Clicking the chair causes it to play a running water sound effect which, sure, might seem like flimsy evidence it's own (as with the other two) but when you take into account Toby's usual attention to detail and two seperate mysterious sources mentioning coats, faces, AND washing, it just seems less likely to be a coincidence overall imo.
Split Gaster is certainly the most compelling idea I've seen thus far. I mean it's just so obvious when you point it out. I love the idea that the reason Gaster is so prevalent IS because of the shatteringl, however it also leads to some odd forms of Gaster like potentially the egg man or person form the letter
@@infizero.mp4 The similarities between this letter author and the Cheshire Cat are so fun sjsjsk just to quote a few Cheshire Cat: Oh, by the way, if you’d really like to know, he went that way. Alice: Who did? Cheshire Cat: The white rabbit. Alice: He did? Cheshire Cat: He did what? Alice: Went that way? Cheshire Cat: Who did? Alice: The white rabbit! Cheshire Cat: What rabbit? Alice: But didn’t you just say… I mean… oh dear! Cheshire Cat: When you've understood this scripture, throw it away. If you can't understand this scripture, throw it away. Cheshire Cat: The proper order of things is often a mystery to me. Cheshire Cat: You see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Letter Author: Now, put on your coat and wash your face! Or, put on your face and wash your coat. Not necessarily in that order. Or, in any order at all. Letter Author: Happy New Year! Or, was it the old year? Or even stuff like "I never forget someone I don't remember!" which are obviously two opposites put together in a nonsensical way.
@@schalomforever Sorry I worded it badly, I meant Alice in Wonderland has already been referenced before! It generally seems like a big inspiration especially for chapter 1. Kid falls from the real world into a magic fantasy world (Dark World/Wonderland) that has enemies based on cards and games with the biggest enemies being a ruler of cards (King of Spades/Queen of Hearts) and later is able to get out of the fantasy world back into the real world with hints to the fantasy one not being properly real. Lancer's shadow going around the place as you follow him, just like the beginning of Alice in Wonderland, C round becoming K round and shrinking/increasing etc... There might be a direct reference to the Cheshire Cat though, given that Seam (purple cat-like shopkeeper) tells you "Here, you learn to spend time... Or go mad like everyone else." very similar to the iconic "Most everyone's mad here. You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself."
@@wandydoodles Thanks for the detailed answer! I love getting deep into theorizing. If we assume the letter person is supposed to be Mike and they write in capital letters and have knowledge of being in a game, do you think they will be the next secret boss too? What do you think would be their discarded object in the light world? Something that has to do with cats or microphones seems unlikely to me considering the chapter will take place in a TV world. Well maybe Radio came before Television but wouldn't that be more like a speaker than a microphone? After all a microphone receives physical soundwaves as input ("Mike are you getting all this?") and a speaker only amplifies existing electrical input. That's what makes no sense to me atm. But I guess Seam does have meta knowledge and Gaster-ish facial features too, without being a secret boss themselves (yet?) 🤔🙈 So maybe Mike doesn't have to be a SB necessarily(?)
The reason why it could be ironic that the author has forgotten could be that they have previously asked you not to forget something yourself. The author of the letter, I presume, is the singer of “I’m with you in the dark”. Just a thought
I didn't even consider that possibility! I definitely connected Don't Forget with this letter, though I forgot to mention it in the video, but that reasoning behind the irony comment makes a lot of sense.
What if this is some other character that’s trying to imitate Gaster? Like the next secret boss is desperately trying to be like the person who drove them mad?
I really like the theory that this is from the "Egg-Man" It seems to fit a lot more with the whole contradictory 'I am or am I not?' existence he seems to have.
As much s I love the idea of "Gaster is actually adorkable outside of his professional demeanor", I am convinced this is either Chapter 3' s secret boss or someone related to the secret boss. It is aware this is all a game and a "lower level" reality, like Jevil and Spamton, but unlike them they seem to be pretty ok with it, neither embracing chaos nor trying to achieve higher existence. They really just want to help someone and they may be aware the only one who can do that is the player - WHO this someone is, we have no idea. Is it December? Noelle? Gaster? Susie? Flowey?! Who knows
Hey, y'know what I just thought of? This theory might be total bogus, but, what if the secret bosses are parts of Gaster too? If we establish different parts of Gaster being a thing in Deltarune, I don't think it would make sense not to have seen any as of yet. There's already the very popular theory that Sans and Papyrus are two different "shards" of Gaster after he got shattered, so why wouldn't there be any in Deltarune? Plus, Spamton and Jevil kind of bear resemblances to Gaster as well, Jevil with the star-shaped, all black eyes that kind of resemble the gashes on Gaster's face, and Spamton with the black and white color scheme and overall resemblance to a skeleton, not to mention the both of them having this big, wide smile that almost never disappears. Them being a piece of Gaster could explain why they've got a certain degree of meta knowledge, as well as the connection to Gaster we know they have. I don't really believe it's true if we don't prove that Gaster pieces are a thing in Deltarune and Undertale, but if we manage to prove it, then I think it could be true.
@@whocaresaboutthename6850 i definitely the visual resemblances with both of them, and the thematic ones with Seam. Personally i'll wait a bit for more clues when it comes to Rouxls because so far apart from a (striking) resemblance to Mystery Man there isn't much tying him to Gaster at all, but it would be very cool. Also i like the idea of one of Gaster's pieces being this silly goofball while all the others are dramatic and over the top
look mom im on tv!! seriously though this is a great summary of the absolute insanity that has been utdrtwt these past few days ^^ i look forward to the other stuff youll put out!
Watching this made me realise and remember something we have overlooked: The end of Entry Number 17, when Gaster asks "WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK?" Adding to this, there's also the fact that the initial release of Deltarune was a _survey_ program, surveys are not something that are done by just one person most of the time. You need many people reaching out to many others for the survey to be as conclusive and varied as possible. I highly think that the person that sent this letter is one of those people whom Gaster was talking to, it would connect the final thing in Entry #17 to Deltarune, explain the survey program nature of the game and how they could refer to Delta Rune.
Also, the Gaster Tweets annoucing DR, clearly shows that SURVEY_PROGRAM, was made by Gaster for US to interact with, it's like a way to connect us, The Player, to the World of the game, such as he states in the Tweets that we are "IN THE VERGE OF CONNECTION", and when we boot up the game, he asks "ARE YOU THERE, ARE WE *CONNECTED?"* even the name of the game is changed to "CONTACT", instead my theories for Entry 17 is that it's either the Experiment moments before Gaster Shattered, or (whitch is more of a hope then a Theory), something that he is documenting the first time we meet him in DR, and it being in UT is basically a Teaser for DR (if we even do, whitch i'm pretty sure we indeed will).
@@whocaresaboutthename6850 I think the overall nature of Entry 17 is about Dark Worlds in general, every line fits perfectly. Dark Darker Yet Darker: Literally about Dark Worlds, Darkners and darkness in general The Darkness Keeps Growing: The number and (possibly) size of the Dark Worlds are increasing Shadows Cutting Deeper: Shadow crystals and how they're like glass shards (I think this is one of the more interesting ones, given initially Jevil didn't give a Shadow Crystal but you could still get his one in Ch2 if you had beaten him). Photon Readings Negative: The entrance to the Dark Worlds as well as the Dark Fountains emit darkness like light glowing, and since light is photons there being negative photons would mean that thing is "glowing" in darkness. And now the final line, which might connect to the person who wrote the letter. I think that either the Dark Worlds or something else related to darkness is the experiment that Gaster talks about in Entry 17. We know that Toby's had the idea for Deltarune since at least 2012, well before Undertale came out so these meta stuff in Undertale would have to either be foreshadowing or context for the stuff in Deltarune.
@@elegant_lilligant Yes, and my Theory is that this Dark World experiment in Entry 17 is what led to him being shattered, he created a Dark Foutain. Or ad i explained, it's a scene in idk Chapter 6 where we meet first meet him and he is describing The Roaring in a cientific matter!
This is really cool, didn't expect wuch a letter to exist. I personally find the coat and face washing thing to be a potential reference to a movie/tv show set. Y'know, get ready for the performance?
He knowing about Delta Rune (separate) seem to be referring to the legend or to how the characters know about it in game. What makes me believe that another person besides Gaster can know about this is Ralsei… Ralsei knows about Delta Rune and the player… is very consistent in his characterization that Ralsei treats us in a certain way different to how he treats other lightners like Susie. I would also say that he treats us (the entity inside Kris) better than Kris themselves. This meaning: Gaster has people aware of the experiment around him even if they don’t understand it 100%. That person also knows that we are waiting (this is the weirdest part) but he could be like one of the closest people to Gaster since is the only character being referred as friend in the Survey Program and is in all caps just like all the things at the goner maker sequence. I have been following all this theory crafting of twitter and for me is so interesting!!! I believe that this probably will be cleared in chapter 3 or 4, when we see this secret boss talking in this way or this secret character probably will be revealed. I am more inclined into thinking that he is image friend… however I don’t know if image friend is Mike, because Mike is the one that has ties into helping Spamton (image friend eyes and Spamton glasses are a mirror image to each other, I mean, chiral) so honestly this is confusing as hell… because both image friend and Mike have strong ties to Gaster and Spamton.
Hello everyone! I'm still reeling from the shock of all this 😭 I tried to get this out as fast as possible but of course, other people have already made videos on this subject as well by now lol. Still wanted to get my initial thoughts out there! Let me know in the comments your thoughts on what all this could mean!
i really like how this is kinda just a completely new character that we’ve never heard from before really refreshing after 2 years of no new characters (except spamtons a and b)
@@whocaresaboutthename6850 Even if she's a tomboy i don't think toby would use masculine phrasing (Or is that how Japanese works?). That or Dess is trans.
I love this video! I just found your channel about an hour before you uploaded this video and I seriously love your video style. I can’t wait for more videos from you :D
personally, i really like the spookydood theory that you also mentioned here, namely that the letter is from the man behind the tree. he shares a lot of attributes with gaster (being able to just disappear, being in between worlds or rooms, being mysterious enough to be the deltarune equivalent of "it is the lords doing" (no shade against religious ppl ofc)), while also having description that fits more with how the letter reads than gaster would. i like it because its basically the same as saying that its someone we dont know, but with slightly more grounds to it.
I kind of want it to be Gaster! I just like the idea of the silly elements in the letter being something that's a part of him. I don't like the idea of him being 100% serious and scary, i like juxtapositions!
Someone already commented but we already have so many serious turned goofy characters deltarune and undertale. Gaster being the only/one of the few consistently seriously and cryptic characters is arguably the juxtaposition/thing that makes him stand out…
The line "not necessarily in that order or in any order at all" could be further supporting the claim that the person speaking doesn't know how time works. Also "put on your face and wash your coat" reminded me of the goner maker in the beginning of deltarune since the vessel we make does not have a face. (Although the vessel doesn't posses a coat as well as far as I'm aware. (This all may be just a stretch.))
there's an easy way to counter the argument about the valentine's card being too informal. in fact, i already did, by acknowledging that this is a valentine's card, where formality would be really weird. scientista are not weirdos who constantly speak ultra-formally. weirdos, maybe, but every instance of gaster speaking formally was when it called for it
@whocaresaboutthename6850 yeah, honestly, I don't think they are (Unless we're Chara because the red soul is theirs, and we have the red soul in deltarune, but that probably a stretch) I just found it interesting that the letter mentioned LOVE
An idea I see brought up is that DELTA RUNE (with a space) is referring to either the prophecy of the delta rune or an object that is the delta rune. Not that that REALLY clears anything up but it's definitely interesting to consider... Definitely something to look out for in the future chapters! Ultimately I'm with you where I'm leaning towards this mystery writer not being Gaster, and probably some character associated with him.
Yeah, I thought of that possibility while making this. It seems unlikely, but what with Jevil and Spamton's weird manners of speaking, I wouldn't rule it out lol
since entry 17 implies that undertale gaster was experimenting with darkness, and specifically dark fountains and dark worlds, it would be weird if deltarunes gaster was someone else, so my thought is what if "ANOTHER HIM" refers to gasters theme (which is just called "him") since its a variation of the theme
I think the person from the letter can be Dess,if my theory of Dess being somewhere with gaster, then maybe she is trying to help either noelle or Kris ?(or both ??) I dont know,It kinda makes Sense for me,its a LITTLE bit off of somenthing Gaster would say
Isn't there a possibility that the valentine is from the voice that discards the vessel? That seems like the most obvious candidate for someone who knows it's a game and can interact with us but isn't Gaster.
That does make sense, but the whole reason we think it's a second voice and not Gaster is because of it not being in all caps, which the valentine is in.
Honestly? I think it could be the person in the code, we don’t know much about them, due to gaster being in a similar position they would get along, and they wouldn’t know us hence the awkward ask
Can't say it's common to be jumpscared by my own Twitter but oh boy, did i do a double take HAHAHAHA. I'm super late but thank you for including my thoughts in the video! After 3 months of mulling it over, I still kinda stand by my idea. Though I will admit, the possibility that it's introducing a new character isn't so impossible either. It would just have to be an important, lore bearing character in future chapters, with all the meta layers he's tied to. And definitely the man behind the tree, the similarities are too many to be ignored. Y'know, lately I've started to wonder if it's straight up the Knight. There's this note of... artificiality to Deltarune's prophecy, and to Ralsei's behavior around the main story specifically. At times he almost acts like he Knows what's about to happen. Remember in Snowgrave when Kris doesn't respond to his prompting when Susie rescues Noelle, resulting in them skipping the Boat Scene altogether? He looked pretty upset... as if he knew that this wasn't how the story was supposed to go. It's obvious that DELTARUNE's metanarrative is trying to appease to us, as gamers AND as former Undertale fans. It's basically built into Hometown, from its look, to its characters, to its callbacks. It's all weaponized nostalgia. So I wonder if the prophecy isn't a set-up to maintain our attention, too. If Undertale begged us to let go, what if Deltarune (be it Gaster or whoever else is running it with him) asks us to not look away? To not abandon it? There's an obvious parallel to draw between Our relationship to the game and that of the Lightners and the Darkners when it comes to cosmic power disparities. I mean, we might as well be God to them. So if the Prophecy is a set up, then the Knight is also in on it. He's just here for our enjoyment, which would track with his words in the letter. The Lightners abandoned the Darkners; what if we did the same to DELTARUNE? What if it NEEDS us to engage, to not step away? We're in an experiment, after all.
I believe it's the Man behind the tree! (like the guy in the video 14:15 but I don't think he's a part of Gaster.) When you find the man it says "Well there is a man here." and "Well there isn't a man here." that is like the start of the letter, both start with well. When you check the egg it says "Not too important, not too unimportant.". The letter disappeared after you read it, like the man does when he gives you the egg. When you drop the egg it says "What Egg?" like there never was an egg in the first place, like the Letter. The more I think about it the more it makes sense. [At least for me...] My longest comment ever lol. PS: I think he meant the DELTA RUNE legend because of the spelling.[DELTARUNE (The game) and DELTA RUNE (The legend)] Well, that is what I think! What do you think?
I think its from friend, who is mike and also the chapter 3 secret boss. they're all the same person, friend has been mike all along. The story is progressing so it's very likely the chapter 3 and 4 secret bosses might be even more enlightened than spamton, after all spamton knew more than jevil. Jevil just knew it was a game, spamton knew of the light world and called it heaven and wanted to get to it. Mike probably knows something about a "delta rune" but not enough. He was probably instructed to help spamton and was the person on the phone with gaster instructing him. He wrote this valentines because after gaster abandoned him and in turn spamton, he lost much of his memory. I think with each chapter the secret bosses will know more and more and get closer and closer to gaster.
We will see what the end results may be. But, as a habitual writer (largely in old-world ink and stationery), I must say that there is a notable difference in the mode of expression between writing and actual spoken expression. Relevant or relative or not, it is a potential that had crossed my mind. After all, it is a facet of self, and that is a deep and abiding question relating to Gaster, I find.
What if the one who wrote the letter is the knight? I mean it would answer a lot of questions you brought up since it is kinda implied that the knight at Gaster are working with one another and yes I know there’s the slim possibility that Gaster is the knight but if he’s not then this is a very likely candidate
ok so I was busy this week and I just read the newsletter today, but I only got two cards, even tho the newsletter told me I would get three. Is it possible that me and a few others also got the gaster card, and it disappeared from our emails after being discovered by the internet? Idk much about coding and I'm just spitballing here, but if anyone else also got two cards, or can confirm its possible to do this to emails please reply and let me know!
Did you get two plus a blank valentine, or just two? I believe the mystery valentine also updated to be blank within the newsletter itself, not just on the page itself, but I could be wrong about that.
I could maybe theorize a hit at a future secret boss fight like Jevil and Spamton. Someone who might lead in more to the Gaster mythology than the other two have.
18:48 I think it's not that, they just don't know the cultural conventions. Different cultures may celebrate different aspects of the same event, so perhaps they think "do they celebrate that the previous year is over, or that a new one is born?". Similarly they don't know in what order people usually do stuff
7:17 to be fair that wasn’t really an ask for help, more of like an announcement to the new universe, but, it was also to the Player, this is technically this first time actually asking the person he sent it to… Maybe Kris, it’s very coincidental that he talks about a famous person he forgot about…who’s Kris encountered after he went broke… Very interesting
I dont think anyone can know if it is the the eyes in the basement writing this letter but considering deltarune is kind of like an experiment I think the eyes in the basement watching you and reporting back to gaster makes sense and if they are gasters friend that would also make sense
My own personal theory that I'm going with right now is that both the Twitter speaker and the letter writer are seperate pieces of Gaster, possibly even Mystery Man and REDACTED. One representing his formal and scientific mind, and the other representing his weirdness and eccentricity. And by combining them together, you would get the full, complete Gaster.
I think it could make sense from a certain point of view if it is (a piece of) Dr. Gaster talking about helping the other pieces of himself, because it is ironic and strange to forget yourself, as "you" are always present in some form with yourself and thus can't be forgotten, while it's also possible that you can't remember yourself either, because your memory is a part of "you" and can't really remember itself. Well, such a twisted and bizarre experience would fit a character who's shattered across time and space! "He started saying things that didn't make sense... but, they didn't completely *not* make sense either."
I feel like it's gotta be some version of Gaster/egg man, but, if you'd care to indulge in some crack with me: What if the letter was written by Deltarune Papyrus? There's only a couple characters that we know of that speak in all caps- Papyrus being one who's been notably missing as of late. We have no idea what he's like in Deltarune; And, he 'should' be appearing in the next releases of Deltarune, no? 'Every day being a day filled with love' and the 'I want to help' lines seems very in character with Papyrus, as well as the playful, innocent snark about the reader replying out loud to the letter. Try reading the letter in a Skeletor voice while bonetrousle is playing. You'll see what I mean. It's... Not a terrible fit! Obviously the question about Delta Rune is hard to answer, but the skeletons have always seemed to know more than they probably should. And if deltarune characters continue to share most of the same qualities as their Undertale counterparts, Deltarune Papyrus won't be an idiot, even if he is odd/eccentric. Besides, Sans (and to an extent, papyrus himself) have had links to Gaster for a while. Gaster Blaster, for example.
ive never seen anyone adress this so far, but maybe its seam? idk. the strange speaking in riddles kinda reminds me of them (him? idk) plus they definitely will be more relevant, and are already tied to gaster by their quotes. tho personally i do believe its deltaruen gaster/ the eggman. the entities speech pattern seems to basically be a perfect flip to gasters, with gaster often "doubling down" on statements with things like "darker YET DARKER" and "very VERY intersting", whereas this entity often contradicts itself with its next statement like "new year or was it the old year" or "was it myself no... well perhaps", which is also why i feel it so likely to be the eggman (there is a man here, there is not a man here). speech pattern wise then, letter entity/eggman seems to be a perfect opposite in many ways to gaster, opposite to such an extent that instead of disproving being gasters deltarune imo, it wraps all the way around to possible/imo even likely just by how mirrored the entity is. theres way more mirror connections between both, like two sides of the same cion shit, but this comment is already long and rambly so ill stop here because mostly i wanted to adrress seam as a possibility in this specific case.
Toby is a master at creating more questions than answers. Also, I want to mention that whoever this is, it’s NOT gaster. It’s informal, the phrasing is very unlike him, and infact, there’s a typo at the end when saying “Goodbye” (they say “Good by” instead) So whoever this is, I’m sure it isn’t gaster, at least not the one we talk to on Twitter or in Deltarune.
one, this is a valentine's card, formal phrasing would be extremely out of place. every other instance of gaster speaking was when it was actually appropriate two, good by is actually valid, believe it or not
@ihaetschool3361 That still doesn't explain the personality discrepancies between the two of them. Letter Writer is kind, friendly, forgetful, and confused. Twitter Speaker is formal, serious, analytical, and focused. They are actually opposites in a lot of ways.
@@kingofcrap4414 both in ENTIRELY DIFFERENT CONTEXS. every time gaster speaks formally, it was needed. announcing a project of his? a lab entry? his own project? all analytical and formal. a valentine's card simply isn't the right place for that. people can be all formal and analytical when doing their job and then be complete goofballs outside of it
Crack theory into the pot of crack theories: the writer doesn’t ask about deltarune as a game but instead asks about delta rune as a symbol and how the prophecy is shaping up to be. Because delta rune is spelled with a space instead of together
I think it might be the egg man, idk if ppl still think it’s gaster or not but I feel like it fits his mo. He gives you something then dip. Plus he’s very mysterious. Toby is always throwing surprises at us.😂
I have a massive gaster theory for deltarune. Gaster got shattered across time and space. Hes "soul" was stucking in the code of a game "Deltarune" (I know it doesnt explain much but we will have to assume till the other chapters drop). He communicated through the code and twitter to make people play this game "Deltarune" so that they find his missing pieces. The shards or glasses we get after beating the bosses? What if its parts of gaster himself? And the whole plot revolves around us helping him bring himself back. What if he fucks the world over? Or deletes the game in its entirety by the end of the chapters? We can get some in game code manipulation to get back in the game just to beat it perhaps? It can lead to a very insteresting story line i believe. Very very interesting. *Edit: I dont know whether it has been debunked or not but this is my attempt at guessing what toby fox is cooking 🗣
Bit of a crackhead theory but what if the vessel you made at the start of Deltarune is the person/thing that the author forgot? If it's ironic from our perspective, the vessel is created by us so it WOULD be irony to forget the very thing we made/thought was going to be our character
There is actually a difference between Deltarune and Delta rune. Deltarune is the game gaster gives us and Delta rune is the prophecy from Undertale and Deltarune. This letter specifically refers to Delta rune the prophecy not the game.
Perhaps a more origional theory is that the one asking for your soul after the genocide run is acually gaster (based on their use of "very interesting")
@@VindictiveToast That is also already a Theory by popular UT Transgirl RUclips CiblesGG, and It's basically Debunked, since the one who clearly has control over our body and our soul is Chara as we see in Soulles Pacifist, and it also can't be Gaster bc it's in lowercase, even tho he always speaks in upercase, it dosen't even make sense for it being Gaster, the person asking for our soul directly states that "there's *still* something i want from you" when asking for our Soul, Gaster had never interacted with us before this and it's obv Chara bc it only leaves them as our candidate and also bc they took control over the Timeline after becoming the most powerfull being in the Underground, it directly follows their dialogue when we meet them at the end of Genocide.
srsly tho if its not gman himself then its papyrus. theres no other person who speaks in allcaps like that and is shrouded in mystery then deltarune papyrus. he NEEDS to be the knight man
Honestly, I think the letter was written by Papyrus. The sense of humor and the writing styles are so similar to his. He also hasn't been seen in Deltarune yet.
Papyrus doesn't write like this at all?? What are you talking about?? Yes, Papyrus is weird and eccentric, but he's also extremely pompous and bold, always confident in what he's saying, which the letter writer clearly isn't. He also speaks in a far more bombastic tone, in sharp contrast to the letter writer who is more casual and relaxed. I'm sorry to put it so bluntly, but unless Deltarune Papyrus is COMPLETELY different personality-wise, there's no way this could be him.
This is the Papyrus from deltarune not UT, so there is the possibility that he is more introvert or less expressive than his UT counterpart but we don't know yet
why, whenever "chapter 3 secret boss" is mentioned, do I see a dark Woody "tRaNSPareNT" image???? no way HBC's (? been a while since I watched one of their videos (TTS theorizer)) Woody theory is actually spreading to other people, but not only that, it actually holds quite a lot of ground and might actually be correct from when it came out (or it's just become a beeg meme and I am GIGA-overthinking abt it)
I the the leader is the tv guy!! Think about it!! Before Toby said that character 3 is finally going to be released, people were/was making fnaf songs and you want to know who was in it?! The the guy!! So it’s possible that it could be him!!
Guys come on, Toby is trying to hint at us that the next big boss is the tv guy!! Because if you think about it a little longer you realize that gaster doesn’t have eyes like that. And plus we didn’t actually hear him laugh yets
I immediately thought the letter was the man behind the tree. It has the similar, “there is no man there” feel
I feel like when chapters 3 + 4 release, we’ll know exactly who wrote this letter. Often Toby shows us information we can’t understand yet, that makes total sense later on. I’d love this to be Gaster but at the same time I can see why people are skeptical.
@@waterisbased I mean, that voice is very obviously Gaster. The two voices aren’t exactly the same but they have similarities.
It's another another him
I definitely think the author of the letter is the Chapter 3 secret boss.
Those things don't exist in the dark world, he made them because of his visions of the light world
The character in this letter pretty directly talks about deltarune the game, and references how long we've been waiting for the next chapters.
@JonnyO514
I think the part about jevil is nearly confirmed now because of the shadow crystals. Every secret boss will have a shadow crystal, and it seems very much like the shadow crystals are the things which really drove them insane. And when you use a shadow crystal in the dark worlds, it shows you a vision into the light world. So we know at the very least that both jevil and spamton have seen the light world. I say that this probably drove them insane because, darkners don't really know anything about the light world, so seeing it and realising that their world is made up of inanimate objects and toys would probably break their whole worldview
Also, this might sound confusing, but I think that spamton is talking directly to us, but that he doesn't know us as the player of a videogame. Spamton himself is being puppeted by some unseen thing, he's meant to parallel what kris is going through. I think that we're not meant to be literally the player, but that whatever we are can be explained in the context of the game
Gaster talks about meta things a lot, but he never really directly talks about how deltarune is a videogame.
Rare)

*Even if "Deltarune" only makes sense to be mentioned by Gaster, he never says DELTA RUNE (with a space) ((Yep I see that was already pointed out in the video))

@@TheRealSuperKirbyEVERYMAN IS GASTER CONFIRMED??? 😱😱😱

Good points! You mentioned that the Cheshire Cat was mentioned in Deltarune in another context than IMAGE_FRIEND. When was that? Was it a quote? 🤔

In this case the singer would be Dess?
What if this is some other character that’s trying to imitate Gaster? Like the next secret boss is desperately trying to be like the person who drove them mad?
That would definitely be interesting! Though unclear what their motives would be for doing so (besides just being crazy)
Watching this made me realise and remember something we have overlooked: The end of Entry Number 17, when Gaster asks "WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK?"
Adding to this, there's also the fact that the initial release of Deltarune was a _survey_ program, surveys are not something that are done by just one person most of the time.
1. It's "ENTRY NUMBER 17"* not 12
2. It's in All caps
@@whocaresaboutthename6850Oh whoops, misclicked 2 it seems
Dark Darker Yet Darker: Literally about Dark Worlds, Darkners and darkness in general
The Darkness Keeps Growing: The number and (possibly) size of the Dark Worlds are increasing
Shadows Cutting Deeper: Shadow crystals and how they're like glass shards (I think this is one of the more interesting ones, given initially Jevil didn't give a Shadow Crystal but you could still get his one in Ch2 if you had beaten him).
What makes me believe that another person besides Gaster can know about this is Ralsei…
Ralsei knows about Delta Rune and the player… is very consistent in his characterization that Ralsei treats us in a certain way different to how he treats other lightners like Susie.

I don't like the idea of him being 100% serious and scary, i like juxtapositions!
coward, i want the full package, with extra cheese
But we already have a lot of goofy characters???? Him being serious IS the juxtaposition.
Someone already commented but we already have so many serious turned goofy characters deltarune and undertale. Gaster being the only/one of the few consistently seriously and cryptic characters is arguably the juxtaposition/thing that makes him stand out…
Gaster has shown himself to be very terse and scientific in his language. Gaster, in my opinion, is going to be a borderline eldritch horror.
(This all may be just a stretch.))
there's an easy way to counter the argument about the valentine's card being too informal. in fact, i already did, by acknowledging that this is a valentine's card, where formality would be really weird.
scientista are not weirdos who constantly speak ultra-formally. weirdos, maybe, but every instance of gaster speaking formally was when it called for it
i think it is possible maybe it is mike who made the newsletter? or maybe FRIEND, or maybe FRIEND is related to mike and its both.

I loved this video!!
i think the gaster piece idea makes a lot of sense especially if you take in account the first song you hear in deltarune being "another him"
Possible loose connections i thought of:
Chara (because the letter mentions LOVE)
The song "don't forget" (for obvious reasons)
Chara being in DR is cringe
@whocaresaboutthename6850 yeah, honestly, I don't think they are (Unless we're Chara because the red soul is theirs, and we have the red soul in deltarune, but that probably a stretch)
I just found it interesting that the letter mentioned LOVE
@@SPYROSTSABOURIS Chara already states in UT that "But we are no the same, are we?" If you do Genocide again, they represent us but, they aren't us.
I have a feeling that if it isnt gaster, then it might be the chapter 3 or 4 secret boss (which may explain gasters vibes)
Gaster is supposed to have an archaic air about him, as he speaks with British English spelling, asking you for a "Favour"...
the second mystery letter definately is from alphys because of the filename
I love how everyone theorizes about Gaster when no one knows what he officially looks like.
The sentence "How is Delta rune" doesn't really make sense with that logic
Yeah, I thought of that possibility while making this. It seems unlikely, but what with Jevil and Spamton's weird manners of speaking, I wouldn't rule it out lol
since entry 17 implies that undertale gaster was experimenting with darkness, and specifically dark fountains and dark worlds, it would be weird if deltarunes gaster was someone else, so my thought is what if "ANOTHER HIM" refers to gasters theme (which is just called "him") since its a variation of the theme
I think the person from the letter can be Dess,if my theory of Dess being somewhere with gaster, then maybe she is trying to help either noelle or Kris ?(or both ??)
I dont know,It kinda makes Sense for me,its a LITTLE bit off of somenthing Gaster would say
Tyhr letter went away because our functional universe number reset after the encounter
Honestly? I think it could be the person in the code, we don’t know much about them, due to gaster being in a similar position they would get along, and they wouldn’t know us hence the awkward ask
7:30 I feel like maybe there might be two Gasters. I could most definitely be wrong though.
I knew there was a lack of information in this newsletter, and Laura this is where it was hiding Toby you slick fox
Almost every very Darkner knows of the LightWorld, Heaven is something *past* the LightWorld aka the Real World
We will see what the end results may be.
The letter is actually wing gaster the royal scientist from undertale battle mode
I came up with the same reasoning for it being FRIEND.
ok so I was busy this week and I just read the newsletter today, but I only got two cards, even tho the newsletter told me I would get three.
@@infizero.mp4 just two! it was really weird
if you have discord or something I can send you screenshots
I could maybe theorize a hit at a future secret boss fight like Jevil and Spamton. Someone who might lead in more to the Gaster mythology than the other two have.
18:48 I think it's not that, they just don't know the cultural conventions. Different cultures may celebrate different aspects of the same event, so perhaps they think "do they celebrate that the previous year is over, or that a new one is born?". Similarly they don't know in what order people usually do stuff
7:17 to be fair that wasn’t really an ask for help, more of like an announcement to the new universe, but, it was also to the Player, this is technically this first time actually asking the person he sent it to…
Maybe Kris, it’s very coincidental that he talks about a famous person he forgot about…who’s Kris encountered after he went broke…
Very interesting
IF this is actually Gaster, then oh boy does he give off those awkward grandpa vibes
Whoever Cerise is, imagine how honored they must've felt when they found out they're the only ones that got the mystery letter :D
I feel like it's gotta be some version of Gaster/egg man, but, if you'd care to indulge in some crack with me:
What if the letter was written by Deltarune Papyrus?
I almost thought it was December talking to us, but it doesn't make sense that she'd know about Delta Rune.
I thought it could be Dess too! Feels good to not be alone in that. But yeah the Delta Rune Line puts a pretty big dent in that theory huh :,)
@@MeowRealest Then again we have zero idea what happened to her so who knows?

Also, I want to mention that whoever this is, it’s NOT gaster. It’s informal, the phrasing is very unlike him, and infact, there’s a typo at the end when saying “Goodbye” (they say “Good by” instead)
So whoever this is, I’m sure it isn’t gaster, at least not the one we talk to on Twitter or in Deltarune.
one, this is a valentine's card, formal phrasing would be extremely out of place. every other instance of gaster speaking was when it was actually appropriate

Crack theory into the pot of crack theories: the writer doesn’t ask about deltarune as a game but instead asks about delta rune as a symbol and how the prophecy is shaping up to be. Because delta rune is spelled with a space instead of together
Why Crack Theory? It's the MOST likely option tbh, people just want everything to be Meta.

I wish I’d gotten a romantic card from Gaster 😞
Gaster is trying to be hip with the kids
There is actually a difference between Deltarune and Delta rune. Deltarune is the game gaster gives us and Delta rune is the prophecy from Undertale and Deltarune. This letter specifically refers to Delta rune the prophecy not the game.

The sense of humor and the writing styles are so similar to his.
