Interesting story about hyperdontia. Okay, when I was nine, I ad a horrible bike accident and busted my front PERMANENT teeth out and ended up being one of the youngest people to be fitted or a partial plate. Fast forward to 2003, I give birth to my 4th and final son. Fast forward, that son ends up in the dentist chair and dentist gives me a look that I can only describe as ecstasy because my son has hyperdontia. Finding out what it was, I quickly switched my son's dentist because he saw dollar signs. My son is fine, no bad headaches, thank goodness....but still....I could've used those teeth, kid! LOL!

hi, so i have renfields syndrome (diagnosed during a medical procedure a few years back). i dont see much about RS, since its so uncommon, and i was honeslty very surprised to see it in this thumbnail. everything you said was spot on, and you didnt portray us as animalistic or disgusting. im really thankful for that.
i, and my psychologist, agree that low RBC count or low BIL (anemia) are factors for the development of this condition, as i am anemic and have an extreme RBC deficiency.
i myself have not harmed anybody or anything as a result of my condition, thought there have been urges in the past (not anymore, as i am on medication). i do have repeating episodes of self-harming to drink my own blood, which is very dangerous, and i am getting treatment for.
my treatment includes taking medication for increasing my BIL, psychotherapy, monthly physical checkups, and (one of the most effective, but also the most embarrassing) drinking oxen blood, which you can buy at most butcher shops.
its really difficult to live with, so thank you for treating people like me as human. i appreciate it.

Fun fact: Renfield’s syndrome is named after a character from Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. In the novel, Renfield was Dracula’s assistant who ended up being institutionalized and spent his days collecting small animals to eat (to satisfy his craving for blood) and sometimes attempted to harm others for their blood too.

As someone with Tourette’s, I’m happy to see it getting some awareness. For something so many people have, I’m surprised so little people know about it. You also explained it brilliantly and I couldn’t explain it any better. Something you missed out on, is that to get diagnosed, you need to have I think 1 or two vocal tics and multiple motor tics (maybe the other way around) for a year.

I have ichthyosis in a more mild form, and yeah, it can be quite the pain to deal with. Even daily application of heavy duty moisturizers is not enough to fully deal with it. During the summer months for me at least it tends to die down a bit due to the increased humidity, which is nice. Outside of the tediousness of constant application of ointments, the flakes that tend to be left behind by you, near constant slight itchiness, and the slight trauma of being called a "snake boy" in primary school, its manageable through proper treatment and being diligent. My heart goes out to those with worse symptoms than me, I at least understand a little of how you feel.

I had hyperdontia. In surgery, I had four wisdom teeth and four supernumerary teeth removed. I do not think you can grow the extra teeth in your skull, rather they grow along your dental arch. I never had headaches or even noticed the extra teeth until my wisdom tooth x-ray. The only issue would have been potential of root damage if I didn’t have the extras removed. Luckily it was noticed fast enough for no damage to occur. But I’ve never heard of headaches or teeth growing in the skull. That would be crazy!

I have (had) hyperdontia, with most cases people have excess tooth buds and don't have fully formed extra teeth. I had fully formed extra teeth, between my left central incisor and left lateral incisor, essentially an extra incisor on my upper jaw. I had this extra incisor in both sets of teeth, deciduous (baby) and permanent teeth. I had to get the permanent tooth removed since it caused a massive overbite. The baby tooth came out naturally like all other baby teeth at the time. I had the gap from the tooth closed and my upper jaw made smaller with a significantly smaller overbite.
In doing all this though I have been informed that I also lack a permanent tooth, specifically my right 2nd bicuspid in my lower jaw. So I currently have a crown on the baby tooth that was only supposed to last a decade, and I need to make it last at least 8 times that. This missing tooth also means I have hypodontia, along with hyperdontia.
My net tooth amount would technically be +1 more than the average person, but I no longer have the extra tooth and I still have the baby tooth, so I guess I have the average amount of teeth?

The tourettes part reminds me back in 7th grade when I had these few motor tics to where I'd twitch my head to the side, dip my head down, cringe, or back my head up (like yk how to see whether you have a double chin or not) people thought I was faking tourettes and I was like "No I'm not, ik it seems like it but I'm not" then a week later it stopped😭😭

When I first saw the vampire thing, I thought, 'oh! That's me!' but when I heard the explanation, I was relived. You see, I just like the taste of my own blood, like when you lose a tooth. I don't really have an intense craving.
The "things" that I know about in my family so far:
Me: Lactose sensitivity, visual snow syndrome
Mom: Allergies to some types of pollen, lactose sensitivity.
Dad: Nickel allergies. Nickel dermatitis, I think it's called?
Brother: allergies to blueberries and strawberries.
Our dog can also get insanely anxious, but I don't think that's a condition.

He hit the nail on the head with what it's like, give or take "living Hell during puberty because how both interact, together and with brain chemistry, can lead to VERY SEVERE MENTAL ISSUES." so it’s just now come to my attention because of this video that I have epidermal navus. I’ve always thought that the big spot on my lower left back was a birthmark but it was always odd why it kept growing as I got older by a LOT. it could also be something else and I’ve never had issues with it or even noticed it until I went to a summer camp but it’s interesting to have a possible solution explained by a RUclipsr lol

Dude there ARE NO armadillos in africa? Come on. Also it's very difficult to transmit from person to person, do some research on the leper colonies, EXTENSIVE contact is necessary for it to transmit, people with leprosy can live with their families, continue going to school and work, this is just adding to an already huge stigma around a really difficult disease.

    • @saxoul17
      @saxoul17 3 месяца назад +1

Bruh, armadillos are not the only sources of leprosy. Since the time of Jesus there were already leprosy patients and they were isolated because of easy contagion.

Wasn’t expecting to see mine. Tourette’s sucks ass that for sure
If you want to read a whole essay about how accurate it is then scroll down
Honestly, reading this while thinking about my personal experience with this hellish nightmare of a syndrome, it is exactly as described!
Tourette’s however is able to be controlled, but it’s incredibly hard to do so, when you fight your tics long enough, they eventually go away, only downside is when one tic goes down, another one comes up, there is literally no escape from it, and as of now there is no cure and only medicine that can simply slow it down. There is no possible way to stop or get rid of it. And some people don’t even think it’s exists because it’s literally just that ridiculous

I cant imagine its thattt much worse considering its painless and maybe a little treatable (plus just like- always stay inside with the ac on? I do that anyways lol)
