What a grim and eerie intro of any horror flick ever. Leatherface appeared to be a mortal psychopath who was never defeated whether the lone survivor escapes or dies. He had his injuries but I don’t recall him being immortal like the few other popular slashers. Ed Gein was the sole basis for Leatherface no doubt. That’s what the TCM franchise was solely based on. The first installment was true terror unlike the rest of them.
I agree, the original film is still just as terrifying now as it was back. While I do like some of the others films like Part 2, III Leatherface, and the two Platinum Dunes films, the rest after that are just terrible movies. The original film is still one of the best horror films ever made.
Coincidentally, when I moved to Texas back in 2021, I actually got to visit both the Sawyer House (Kingsland Grand Central Cafe, which is being renamed to the Hooper), and The Gas Station back on August 18th 2021 (the day the film took place, August 18th 1973). We even got to eat lunch much in the same exact room as the dinner scene.
thankfully the people who own both locations have embraced the film's history and connection with these places unlike the Myers House in South Pasadena CA. I was able to take plenty of photos when I was at both locations, and I'd love to visit them again in the distant future.
thankfully I've actually been to both the Sawyer House & the Gas Station since it was one of the 1st things I wanted to visit when we moved from Maryland to Texas back in 2021. and we went there on the day the film took place: August 18th.
such a great film piece of film history. I call it the "Downfall of a American Family." and surprised that a odd dark humor pops up here and there. like the part Franklin says "..I think we just picked up Dracula.." RiP to everyone that brought this film together.
from a movie that's almost 50 years old and still an effective film. something that most modern horror films if not modern films in general can't hold a candle to.
funny since I found this on YT before posting this. too bad Tobe Hooper isn't alive since it would of been great to get the soundtrack to this movie released.
coincidentally, I have been to both the Sawyer House (the Kingsland Grand Central Cafe) and The Gas Station last year on August 18th (the day the original film took place). we even ate lunch in the same exact room The Dinner scene took place. got quite a lot of pictures of both places. since we moved from Maryland to Texas last year, I knew it was one of my top places I wanted to check out during that summer.

@@EpicJasonX9000 Wow! That’s amazing of how you can be in a actual film location after a movie was out.

@@EpicJasonX9000 The only version of the opening I got was the broadcast cut until I found this.

Grizzly art of work.
I just want an explanation for the sun shots or what ever the fuck is showing in the part of the opening we’re it’s all black and red
It’s showing the body’s the family graverobbed and strung up
The red on black you're seeing during the intro are indeed sun flares.
Yikes.🪚🪚🪚
