I was not even born when Stevie Wonder first penned this incredible song but It has always been one of my favorites. This live rendition actually brought a tear to my eye and I don't even mind admitting it!
Stevie......... No matter how much we appreciate him, it will unfortunately never be enough. It is a bar that we can never reach. So, the best that we can do is to love him, tell the uninformed, buy his music and hope that another Stevie will land on our planet. So far, only Stevie has arrived and no one has gotten close to his talent.
I learned to sing this song when I was 15. I knew then when I could sing it that I too would become a singer. I sang this song hundreds of times and by the time i was 19 I joined a group called Slave as the Lead Singer. That is how powerful this man's talents are. He inspired me to join one of the greatest soul funk groups of all time. THANK YOU MR. STEVIE WONDER
The man is almost 60. His voice is holding up extremely well, considering he has been singing professionally since the age of 10. God is preserving him well.
I love you Stevie Wonder you are my favorite singer in the world. I loved you from the first time I ever heard your voice I have every album you ever made. The one dream that I have is to meet you in person I celebrate your birthday as if it was my own every year. I thank God for blessing you with the gift of music much love to you always and forever my sweet angel.
I Totally can relate.. My Son, My Gift from God, was born on Mr. Stevie Wonder's Birthday, and I've Always held him in High and Out of this Universe Regard, for his Unreasonable Multiple God Given Talents... I couldn't find the words to convey how his singing, writing, arranging, playing of most every musical instrument, with Expertise!!! He Is This World's and God's Blessings of Universal Wonderment in too many forms to count. Hence the Decision of his Stage Name *Stevie Wonder* The Multi Talented Child Prodigy.. I've had the blessing to see him in concert and I was in a euphoric trance for months afterwards. I grew up on his music, my family were musicians and avid music Lovers. I don't even want to fathom thoughts of what we all shall one day face, as I just want to saturate my mind in his God Given Genius!!! Thank You Father God, Lord Jesus for "Mr. Stevie Wonder" 🙏🏾🌟🙏🏾♥️✝️♥️😘🥰😘💯💅🏾💯💅🏾💯💅🏾💯
"But is that really in her mind" "Mary wants to be a Superwoman...and try to boss the BULL around......but does she really think she'll get by with her dream..." "Where were u when I needed u last winter...." "Our love is at an end" "Spring will fill the air" No one else on the planet could write lyrics like this.....
This version is from the BBC Abbey Road concert in 2005. Perhaps surprisingly, this tune was supposedly inspired by Syreeta, Stevie's first wife. Apparently she had 'tried to boss the bull around' in their marriage (Stevie's a Taurus). In the same show though, Stevie breaks down when singing 'You and I', also about Syreeta, who had recently died.
That sharp (or is it flat?) downbeat of the piano at 1:34 really sets the tone for the rest of this song. Loss, despair, frustration, betrayal, and the passing of what what once was, all culminated in that one note.

TY for this BEAUTIFUL rendition! I bought this album while in college when it first came out and proceeded to buy every one since. They are all vinyl but I cannot tell you how many times they have all been played. Stevie has brought so much joy and passion into my life. Amazing is the adjective I will use for now but of course words cannot adequately express his genius. Thanks once again, Bazza :)
For those wondering just saying in Dutch that I am looking forward to any next concerts by Stevie in Holland and that I think Stevie is a musical genius!
oh man, is that available on an album or DVD ? That is simply one of the best songs ever written ( and perfomed ). The original studio version is just as amazing.
I got the year wrong--my bad. 1982's Ribbon in the Sky constituted a return to form, not this which he wrote in 1972 in the middle of his greatest display of genius.
@TheFreemanuk DONT SAY THAT! D: Let's hope thats not for a looooong time. And besides...he'll forever live in our hearts! ..ugh that sounded cheesy, but its true!
His voice is still the amazing instrument it's always been even if he doesn't seem able to write songs like this anymore. Sadly, his writing output has tended toward the imminently forgettable for lo these many years. Even this song represented a kind of return to form after a decade of rather trite songwriting. Don't think I don't still consider him God, though--'cause I do.
Only Male singer outside of Marvin to bring me to tears so many times in my life. An icon.
Greatest singer/songwriter/musician ever. One the best songs of all time. Thank you.
Cherish him while he is here because he is THE GREATEST that ever done It...
There's no end to his talents
I have no words for how amazing this is
This is completely wonderful! Donny Hathaway did a live version of the second movement of this song. He sounded brilliant as well.
I guess I am kind of off topic but do anybody know a good place to stream new movies online ?
This. Is. Incredible.
the recorded song is so full of studio magic - this was FANTASTIC to hear Superwoman w/ just voice and piano...magic

Oh my God he is timeless!!!
Wheeeen the winter came, you were not around... if you don't get goose bumps, you don't know what singing from the heart is
Stevie wonder is THE BEST!!! That's all I can say!
Last song to hear in life? This song, this version!
I swear I was just thinking the same exact thing...

It is one of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs. Eric Benet did a great job on the song. He nailed it and made it his own.
