- Fancy me
Thought I had my degree
In life and how love
Ought to be a run
I had a one step plan to prove it
Guide in my pocket for fools
Folly and fun
Love had to show me one thing
I was so right (so right)
So right
Thought I could turn emotion
On and off
I was so sure
So sure (I was so sure)
But love taught me
Who was, who was, who was the boss
I'd defy
Anyone who claimed that I
Didn't control
Whatever moved in my soul
I could tempt
Touch delight
Just because you fell for me
Why should I feel uptight
Love had to show me one thing
I was so right (so right)
So right
Thought I could turn emotion
On and off
I was so sure
So sure (I was so sure)
But love taught me
Who was, who was, who was the boss
Love taught me
Taught me
Taught me
Taught me
I was so right (so right)
So right
Thought I could turn emotion
On and off
I was so sure
So sure (I was so sure)
But love taught me
Who was, who was, who was the boss
(Taught me who was, who was the boss)
That’s the way it’s done boys and girls. No backup dancers all over the stage, no auto-tune, no flashy gimmicks. What you have is the high energy and commanding stage presence of a wonderfully talented singer and entertainer, loving what she’s doing and knowing she has the audience eating from the palm of her hand. And kudos to Ashford and Simpson for writing this song for Ms. Ross!
Just a 100 piece orchestra, audience members dancing on stage, and a guy roller skating all over the place lol. I agree, more performers back then could stand flat footed on a stage alone and own the room. But this particular performance wasn't without gimmicks.
@@you_can_call_me_T 😂🤣🤣 You are too much! I wasn't paying attention and even went back to the beginning. She came out in that big time sparkling flowing outfit. It at first sounds like the audience is thinking some guy got on stage (as he didn't have a light at first). This is disco and definitely gimmicky
I heard that!👌
AMEN! YOU TELL IT!!
Absolutely! That is EXACTLY how ya get it DONE from the first note more to the LAST!
Unreal. This makes me want to get up and dance, it makes me happy. No garbage auto-tune, just a real and extremely talented human voice, and what a groove!!!! I just love it.
She brings the VOCALS. She is smiling and having the time of her life...that's what it's all about! Love this video, the hair the jumpsuit and the backing vocals fierce to the bone!
Hey Charlo the vocals in the back are the Eddie Kendrick singers
LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE 💃🏾 🛼 🛼
OMG, talk about late. I just discovered this song in 2016. I've never been a DR fan but this song is the business. I had to give a look at the lyrics and I'm here for it....I was so right...thought I could turn emotion...On and Off..classic!
You should listen to others songs from Ashford & Simpson (who wrote this song) :-) And how could you not be a DR fan? I mean: it's Motown, son ;-)
where were you? this is one of her classic signature songs. check out "it's my house" from the same album.
Robert Petish Better late than never I say!
Robert Petish It's her best album. 1979.
Robert Petish ok me to thought I could control those emotions boy was I so wrong when love comes knocking. lol.
Wow, Diana really came into her own during this era. She was on fire. Her energy is mesmerising.
This was perfection at it's finest and best. Untouchable, unpredictable Ms. Ross worked the entire stage and her vocals were just unbelievable for a live show. Her body flawless, makeup was just beautiful and any hand gestures were just inspiring for feature divas to know how to do it. This was the blueprint TV concert and it looked and sounded amazing on all levels. Lady Di is just one of the Queens of entertainment. I love her so much.....American Royalty
Pure class! Loved this performance! This woman has always given off a contagious "feel good" quality about her performances and presence.
My favorite song by her, and she NAILED it , the sound was excellent, the energy was empire state building high, and i wish i was there. Fantastic. And her back up singers, the Eddie Kendricks singers were off the chart. Amazing vocalists. That was a time when there was no such thing as lip syncing during a concert. You had to deliver and Diana Ross delivered and then some..
This song is DYNAMITE!!! This is the most powerful song Diana has ever made to me. When she found God and made Him the head of her life I was so happy! Who still listening to this in 2020??? ❤❤❤💯
me❗️I am still listening 😄
What?
😊😊
Written by the FABULOUS Ashford and Simpson for Diana. Brilliant!
An absolute seminal classic performance from the legendary icon Miss Ross ! ❤️
Diana Ross Is Definitely "The Boss"!
Valarie Washington ii
Miss Ross. Rules all.
Just saw Diana in Atlantic City NJ and I will tell you at mere months away from her 80th birthday, she is still absolutely amazing. She still commands the stage with her beauty, elegant style and yes, still powerful voice. She is the voice of a generation. The truth is, there were so many amazing and talented people who came out of Motown. If you have not seen Diana Ross live. You must do it. It is worth every penny to see music royalty.
There was no one classier, sexier and glamorous than Diana
One of the best entertainers of all time
She's the boss! No question about it. That's back when singers actually sang.
And she can't sing
@@davidvack4382 👍
The background singers were better singers than her.
Its not only about vocals!! Shes an incredible performer an amazing artist!! She a BOSS
Diana had incredible stage presence, but a phenomenal singer she was not lol
every time I here this. it makes me want to dance.
Gayyyy
+Deron Williams no I was joking I find that I want to kind of dance to this to, I didn't literally mean it in the homo way more in the happy way man, no need to swear and call me that stuff from the first thing, that's wrong in my opinion but I'm sorry and u seem like a nice guy to.
For me, it's a compulsion 😂🙈🔥👏👏👏
Love it. We go disco dancing often and they always play this song. When we are at the disco we are back in time. Fantastic. The music pumping, the disco balls spinning and the dancers floating across the floor.makes me feel like I stepped into 1978 Brooklyn.
Diana had her "A" GAME" this night!
Op school naarje 0
Grew up listening to Diana Ross..she is a legend! An all time fave!!
My Girl 🌹 Ms Ross The Boss❤❤ Lovely concert in St Louis Mo 9-15-2023🌹 Thank you Queen. God Bless.
I don't know who this person is that says the Braxton's cover of the great Diana Ross's the " Boss" is better that the original, but they're delusional
No-but I think Whitney's equals it. Both great-great tune.
Diana's version is flawless. All other lessers need to step to the back of the line.
The three degrees had a great version too! I love them all
Michael Howard Nah. Diana’s version has more groove to it and more upbeat. I like Whitney’s version too though.
Ashford and Simpson did a concert Live on a two album set and in my opinion their version of the Boss is #1 but this is 2nd to it without a doubt.
If you've never heard Ashford & Simpson sing The Boss, look it up on RUclips, they sing it live. Valerie Simpson clearly influenced and guided Diana Ross on how to sing the song. In their version they literally take the song to church. One of my all time favourite songs.
And I've watched that particular clip 100's of times.... Watch them singing 'found a cure' too if you haven't already..... Incredible chemistry and stage presence
Going to find it now!
Going looking now- I LOVE this song! TY for this!
she sang her ass off here, I am speechless
why? she always sigs her ass off. 💕
I've always loved The Great Diana Ross...er singing and smile and stage performance are phenomenal. She's definitely a 👑 and a Boss! Love her ♥️🥰
I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert. There is just one word to describe that evening. Great !!
Gorgeous and a hard song to sing. Brava.
I did NOT know she could sing like this! I've always been a fan but I've never heard her like this. Wow. Awesome start to my Sunday
Beautiful talented lady.We are so lucky to have her !!!!!
Yass Diva Supreme greatness! She used to rock them catsuits jumpsuits whatever she's the bomb love her!
alot of michaels vocals and sounds just the way he sings u can tell diana had a big influence on him
"She taught me so much. I used to just sit in the corner and watch the way she moved. She was art in motion. I studied the way she moved, the way she sang - just the way she was" Michael Jackson
Diana is beautiful
Comment I was looking for 🥰💯❤️
Yes Miss Ross is the Boss. Her charisma and stage presence is just contagious. She was so energetic and had this ease in connecting with her audience and took them on a journey with her. Not everybody can do that. It was those qualities that made her a star. I read many people saying she wouldn’t have been successful had she not got together with Berry Gordy. Sure, he may have given her opportunities - but it was Diana’s tenacity as a woman and her work ethic and stage presence that kept her successful for so many years. Berry may have got her a seat at the table, but Diana’s star quality kept her there. No-one can take credit for that, you either have it or you don’t.
DIANA THE BOSS NOW AND FOREVER! ALWAYS A STAR!!!!!
She's really a queen!
Oh those days!...when we´re happy and we didn´t know it.
If you didn't know you were happy then how could you be happy?
I understand!
I always come back to this song...pure quality
Diana ross is the boss always will be .
Talk about vocals on point while performing...damn! 🥇🥇🥇
Diana always gives me my fuvking life when I watch this
What a concert with Ms Ross, back in the 70s at the Circle Star theater in San Carlos, Ca. I remember her energy and her performance, what a show, what a night!

From México city in 2020 Diana Ross definitely Is the boss
I am so glad I grew up listening to Motown music Diana ross smokey Robinson Michael Jackson and the rest of the gang on that record label... Diana Ross sang like ANGEL actually they all did I am proud to say yeah I was there watching them on TV They will forever be a huge part of my life. as far as the Braxton ladies they did do a beautiful job singing this song That only means they praised her too...but no one would ever even come close to singing it like the Angel Diana Ross.
I can clearly remember back in the day, Ms Ross performing at the legendary Circle Star Theater in Redwood City, California. What a concert, What a night...
In a couple of weeks, Ms. Ross returns to perform again in Northern California.
CANT WAIT TO CATCH HER DYNAMIC SHOW AGAIN......
When I seen this concert on h b o in 1979 I was hooked I been a fan ever since. She is the best.
This lady can sing anything as it was written to capture the style of the music without changing its interpretation. She is the only sing that can sing it all.

Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, Angelus. Blessings
no one has the charisma and spark that she did upon that stage. there is an ease and refinement to what she does. it’s remarkable to watch.
Bebe Zahara Bennet Killing It ❤️❤️
Lewis Benn stoppppp
Lol
And the last name isn't even Bennett. If you gone be a gay, at least get the names right.
Andre Suston it was just a typo (from 2 years ago!), don’t worry :)
Andre Suston and if we’re even gonna go and be grammar nazi’s on the internet in 2020, at least correctly point out my spelling error. You said I spelt it ‘Bennett’ with 2 t’s. I actually spelt it ‘Bennet’ with 1 t. If you’re gonna come to the library to read, please remember to bring your glasses :)
Diana really love the stage. I can see why she's the Queen DIVA!!!
Love this!!
My favorite song that I used to listen to when I was at the peak of my life.
