Thanks for the tips. I’d not realized how important the airtight seal was.

How strange, I’ve had this years blackberry in my quite old bucket and couldn’t figure why it wasn’t starting. Came here and saw this and realised I always bang my spoon on the top like you said. I bought a new bucket and it’s bubbling away normally now. Strange thing was I hadn’t been to your channel since last year and this video was the latest upload. Many thanks

Cheers. Glad I could be of help. & remember to subscribe so you get updates when we add new videos, which we are now doing as we have time to brew again.

I would always check the bubbler itself first. Try a different one in there. They get hairline cracks just by being stored next to other bubblers. If there are condensation bubbles in the pipe leading to the first of the U-bends then fermentation has started.

Thanks Davin didn't think of that I'm thinking I've got air seaping through the bung because I drilled the whole myself.

Ah yes, drilling a hole in a lid is an art in its own right.

Thanks. I'm guessing there isn't an air tight seal because I can see little bubbles fizzing. Initially I thought the yeast was bad but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have the same fermenter as this video. I'll inspect the rim again though.

I bought a Young's fermentation vessel. My airlock isn't bubbling but when I lift the lid I can see little bubbles like it's fizzing.

      Hi.
Take a look at our blog which has some answers that might help.
      Especially #3 -
If you think your airlock should be bubbling away but it’s not, then there are a couple of things to check.
3a - Do you have an airtight seal
3b - Has it finished fermenting? See point 1.
3c - You may have too much water in your airlock. This can cause pressure to build up and the cause the gas to escape from somewhere easier.
3d - tiny dents on your bucket rim may allow gas to escape rather then through the airlock.
We have also made a video which should help too - ruclips.net/video/1HiSmz4VKQ0/видео.htmlsi=57ZrGGxZOvio1p3b
For what you have said, it seems you dont have an airtight seal and so the gas is taking an easier escape route
