The problem is Ebay is making promises to buyers about specific date range on shipping services that is not guaranteed date specific. And if that package is not received by that date, the buyer can open a case and once that case is opened, you have 3 days to prove delivery. Ebay needs to stop this as nothing is date specific with USPS GA or Priority.
100% I have 3 days handling and 1-10 business days economy ship. EBay will tell the buyer it will show up sometimes even before the day I'm going to ship. Date to ship Dec 23. Date to arrive to buyer shown Dec 23-Dec 26. Date if I calculate it the way I've submitted it Dec 29-Jan 2.
Yes, ignoring is the problem. When they say something, "Thanks for letting me know it's missing. Unfortunately Christmas causes lots of delays, but at 7 days I can file a missing mail search with USPS, this normally tells them to find it and gives them specifics if something happened to the packaging. He said they will put it on hold for up to 10 days to investigate. If the item is delivered in that time they close the claim in your favor.
Why even let it sit that long the moment the tracking stops updating i always contact post office and bug the heck out if em till they figure out where my package is and that its moving again
I had 2 items that got lost in the local post office last year and had issues with the website. I called the post office using the 1-800 number and submitted a claim to find the package over the phone. Both packages were found and delivered by Christmas.

The funny thing is that the workers at my USPS have argued with me that it DOES count and I have told them that the machine even tells you it doesn’t 🙄 But if your package does go missing after scanning there, they’ll be the first to tell you they never got it. these little discrepancies really shake my faith in USPS.

When I do that the item basically always starts moving. It’s almost like the system starts to care when they know someone’s watching.
I have had several cases (before Christmas season) that I opened a missing mail case on the USPS website and after 2 weeks missing they suddenly found it in one day. Now what I have been told is if they are shorthanded at one regional center they send packages to another regional which delays everything by a week and then packages get lost. I currently have 20 orders affected by this.
I have a couple missing now. A couple others finally got delivered and one a no show. I sell a little over 100 per mo. Somethings really bad at the usps.
I have had the same issues with the missing and late mail. I also had the same problem on the USPS site when submitting the missing mail form. I switched internet browsers and it finally me let me submit it. I switched from Chrome to Edge. I hope that helps. Love your channel.

The Postmaster finally suggested the scheduled pickup. LOVE IT!! We get to know our carrier pretty good and they take care of us! Cut down on the packages that weren't scanned 100%
I'm really close to a Post Office so I print my own ship labels and drop off on the way home from work each day. On big orders I take a picture of the items on the USPS counter. Thanks Dave.
Try submitting a missing mail search on your phone, just did one on my phone today, also, sometimes if you can get someone at the post office to check the tracking on their system, sometimes that gets it moving as well.
I guess it's due to the holidays. You're not the only one having issues with delivery's. Your good friends are also having problems with non delivery's and refunds issued. This year seems to be the worst from years past. Keep giving great advice and honest information. Happy holidays to you and your family.
SOMETIMES if an item shows in transit, you can call ebay and ask them to extend the 3 day deadline. The last time I tried, they said no, but in the past they have, but make sure you refund before those cases close! I have found that scanning in at the PO is not an official scan and USPS doesn't count that if it doesn't get a regular scan because people could scan, not send, and file a claim. I have also messaged buyers when they opened these cases asking them to re-pay when the item arrives. I have not been so lucky, but I know some sellers have. USPS is sucking big time this season. MANY things we purchased are stuck somewhere and a 2 day priority I sent to someone who needed it in 4 days took a full week to get there. There are going to be a lot of people missing Christmas gifts this season, and they hiked the rates for the holidays!
The thing I’m super annoyed with when it comes to returns is the customer only has to upload a photo. No explanation is needed which is crazy to me. They should at least try to give a reason why.
I have a few packages stuck for a month now. I did a find my package and a claim in. All of a sudden, it started moving. Luckily, my buyer is cool with it...

I have some packages that are arriving late to the next station. It happens every year, but eventually they make it. We have only had a couple that didn’t in the past. I won’t refund anything until eBay tells me to and if you have tracking, I don’t know how they would rule against you. They have always supported me in the past on those cases. What you said about collecting is so true! It’s hard to be a collector when you are a reseller. Everything I collect, specifically comics and transformers has a price. LOL. I will sell it if the price is right. Hope your shipping issues get worked out soon. You and your family please have a Merry Christmas and Joyful New Year!
I watch every one of your videos, and 👍🏻 every single one! I learn so much from you! And I’m so glad you are talking about this with the USPS!!! I have FIVE packages that are MIA!! Most of my customers have been really sweet about it! But two of them have been kinda mean about it…even claiming I created a label but never sent it and said I was a scammer! 😫 I even had one package being shipped to Nashville TN. This package was MIA for many days, then showed shipped from Indianapolis to Nashville….but then was SHIPPED BACK TO INDY…then went MIA again! 🤦🏻♀️ it’s been so maddening as I pride myself on fast shipping! Ugh! So so frustrating! Hope it works out for you and I BOTH ASAP!! Thanks for teaching us all your tips and tricks…and even sometimes things NOT to do! 😂 Thanks Dave!
Always get the scanned receipt directly from USPS. I don't play games with shipping services. I'm on their ass 24/7 and checking all my deliveries every day.
In a similar situation with a few orders shipped via usps. I'd still put in missing mail searches for anything that is missing. Having to refund buyer before the search is completed sucks (because like you mentioned - if it does show up the buyer gets the item and the refund), but atleast if some are actually lost USPS will cut you a check for the missing packages (assuming they were shipped Ground Advantage or Priority)....Hopefully USPS gets back on track over the weekend...Happy holidays to you and your family!
I had 15 missing for 3 weeks . I stayed on top of it . I stayed on USPS and kept in contact with our customers. I am down to 1 missing now and i have had no cases opened
I have had the same problem. The help requests are really hit or miss. I got a call from one facility who said they don't have enought people to look for it. I needed to request the papers in the mail to file a claim and it did not get back to them in time.
Same here got packages delayed all over the United States. You have to do a lost mail claim and then it will arrive two days later every single time it’s amazing it works.
So glad to hear this coming from someone else. I have had way too many INR cases and 4 of my Priority packages have been completely lost this year. eBay refunded a customer this past Wednesday and the item was delivered on Friday. I called and talked with an eBay rep who reversed the decision in my favor and I received my funds. USPS makes you wait 15 days to file a claim. I have angry customers who ordered items the first part of December and their items haven't tracked in more than a week!
Ebay started to suck when they removed the option to leave a feedback for the buyers. Now faulty buyers can ruin you, and you pretty much can't do anything about it. And USPS loses packages even if you drop it off at USPS location and get a receipt.
I had the same thing happen. I wrote down the tracking numbers and took it to my local post office ( the USPS website was not allowing me to file a claim!) my local postmaster was very kind , searched each “lost” package and was able to give each one a poke and get them moving. Some packages where finally delivered, there was a few that was missing in action !
You said you scanned it in. Even if you go to one of the personal scan stations at USPS it still doesn't count as an official scan. I had this problem and switched to waiting in line to get them scanned in. A USPS employee has to scan it for an official scan.
I keep a google spreadsheet "to do list" of hanging issues just so I don't forget anything. I specifically do it in google sheets so I can access it from anywhere.
I found different USPS locations have better percentages of entry scans, so I started only dropping at locations where I get 99%+ entry scans. Not dealing with the hassle of lost packages is a huge time savings.
I am a retail business and we almost had to shut down over the holidays b/c we are still waiting on inventory orders from Dec.9th. These orders have been held up and not delivered b/c the Memphis Distribution Center is so inefficient these orders are just in trucks sitting in their lot as they deliver holiday mail. December is a heavy month for us and this month has been the best hitting the best week of sales for the year and the best month of sales for the year. However, we could have done much more if these orders would have be delivered in a reasonable amount of time, 3 plus weeks is not reasonable, when inventory is bought on a weekly basis and volume is heavy, and yes, we did order heavy the last week of November too to prepare for December. USPS is the poster child of a government run business.
If it didn't get scanned it's your fault. Fix your process! If it has active tracking, you need to contact E-Bay directly when someone opens a case. If you speak with them they won't immediately side with the buyer if they escalate, as long as the package has tracking movement in the past 4 days.
I’ve filed two claims with USPS, got them approved and then never received the checks. I then filed a claim on the checks, sent in a statement saying I never received or cashed them and… radio silence. USPS is a hot mess.
You can call the post office and have them search the tracking numbers. You can also get ahold of eBay and ask them if they will put an extension on the case to give the package time to be delivered. Most of the time they will put a 10 day extension on the case.
If you scan the package in at post office and put it in the drop box, it isn't scanned in as usps shipped until they scan it. I now go to counter. Because then they scan it in.
Luckily, I drop my packages off to the main post office in our area and there's a counter for prepaid labels. I haven't had any trouble with packages not being scanned (knock on wood). I can even see all of the handheld scanners right next to the drop off counter. There's no way I'm standing in the line, which the past couple of weeks, have been out the door almost to the parking lot!
Yes! If your item has shown movement withing the past 4 days, and you call E-Bay and speak to a rep, they will give an extension for the item to arrive.
Dave I had a Postmaster tell me that if you don’t have them logged in at the post office you can’t track them right. There’s a note in Mecari if you drop off a ups package at the post office it’s not getting tracked right should go to UPS 😊💐
DAVE keep trying with usps. It took me 10 times for it to go through. do the third option for missing packages and put all info in. Mine have been missing from freaking November 18th and ebay hasn't closed the buyers not received YET!!! Because I did that. You have to put their address in and yours and etc.
You’re not alone Dave. My buyer just gave me a negative feedback instead of opening an item not received. I messaged the buyer to try to explain the situation, and I will also reach out to eBay.
As a USPS employee I can tell you that you are not scanning them into our system. An employee has to do it once the parcel is picked up by employee or dropped off at an office. Dejoy is ruining the post office! They’ve stolen 1 billion dollars from our rural carries salaries alone! This was the slowest Christmas I’ve ever seen! We didn’t even need parcel runners! But our plant kept sending our UPC’s to the wrong office; hell on Christmas Eve they left 3 of them full of parcels sitting on the dock! Then said they weren’t sending a truck knowing it was Christmas presents… idk what the hell is going on but it’s scary! Especially in this economy! A parcel of mine that came from Canada sat for 2 weeks with no scans until finally it was delivered to a parcel locker. My packages have been moving slow and many have been late and lost or damaged.
Same here. The past month has been horrible with shipping USPS. Dropped off packages and there not show up as arrived an the post office. I’ve had to refund a few items.
Whatever you do, don't let your seller rating dip to Above Standard. Jride went down to Above Standard (I think because of the same reason as you - packages weren't scanned) and his sales went down a great deal. I think you also pay higher fees if you're Above Standard. Jride said if he could do it over, he'd just sent refunds to all of the late packages in order to keep his Top Rated status.
everything's been about 3 days late for about 6 months from the buyers end. I purchase about 15-20 items a month as a model builder. My daily digest from the USPS is usually wrong, some of the problem is with the post office. I live in the boonies too so that's a factor.
I’ve had this happen where the package was going between my town and the nearby town for like almost 2 weeks I went to my post office about it and they said it was because it wasn’t scanning right, I said well they need to use their eyes! Anyways it finally got to the person after 2 weeks. So if you’re bending the bar code at all over the edge of a package that could be part of the problem. However some postal places just don’t scan everything like they’re supposed to and some in the system just plain ol steal packages. Maybe you entered a wrong number, I’ve done that. But go to your post office about it for sure! And call eBay about it!!!!
I wait in line and get a receipt. "USPS in Possession of item" Lonnie and Candice had a good video(s) last week about how to handle USPS right now, Candice has been on it.
I’ve been shipping UPS Ground Saver lately for most things. I’ve discovered there’s not been the delays as there are with the few I’m shipping Ground Advantage.
Currently waiting on a package from Tenn, I'm in GA.... it's stalled somewhere in GA but post office isn't sure exactly where but assured me I'm still gonna get it... going on 2 weeks now btw
Unfortunately, Georgia postal service has always been slow/ delayed for me as a seller. Not sure what the issue is there. I’d recommend going to USPS website and get email/ text alerts for your package and may get your package moving. It’s worked for me thus far. Good luck & hope you get your package soon.
I've been having the same frustrations. With the USPS site not working properly (i've tried too), ebay should be stepping in and helping sellers, by at least giving more time before those cases are closed. I've received numerous messages about things not arriving, and am sure a ton of cases are on their way. Plus I'm still receiving a bunch of orders, with buyers apparently thinking there is still time for online christmas shopping as of Saturday morning (the 21st)
We are in a small town with a small local post office so I have built a relationship with the lady that runs it, so I trust her now and just drop off daily, but before that trust was built or if anyone I don't know is filling in for her, I stand there and make them physically scan every package in right in front of me! That is the only way to make sure your tracking numbers enter the system!!
I ordered fabric from a quilt store on Dec 4 just got it on Dec 20! I had to nudge them to ship it. They advertise super fast shipping. I received several refunds because about 1/2 were out of stock. They were available when I ordered
We’ve had this happen and usually we call USPS customer service. And then we typically within 48 hours packages either moving or has been delivered.. I always ask my customers to please have patience. The package isn’t lost. It’s just very slow right now. If you voluntarily give them that money back, eBay will never refund you when that package shows up . Because you voluntarily offered the refund it basically gets them off the hook. You never get your money unless the people are honest and try to work out a way to get you a PayPal payment.
I couldn't make money reselling since I'm rural. I gave up. I kept seeing worse and worse issues with Ebay (not in my experience, but seeing others discuss their issues) and I just couldn't make reselling work for me. It's devastating for me as it was what I was relying on for income since I'm unable to do anything else, being disabled.
I was sending packages out in my parcel locker next to my mail box for years with no problems, then this year it has been nothing but problems. 6 lost packages! In 27 years I have maybe had 1 lost packages. I spent three months putting in requests and complaints and finally I just gave up and started going directly to the PO and getting a receipt and physically watching them scan. I HIGHLY doubt it's your error if you haven't changed anything, it's the USPS.
I've got the same thing happening missing packages some tracked some not and in Canada Post can't find them. EBay gave everybody a refund but thats how it goes. Even when you're right you're wrong and when you're wrong you're wrong customers always right.
I have several stuck in Florida for no reason, they usually go Kentucky to Knoxville TN, but most of my issues have went from Kentucky to Tallahassee FL before they got any scans and they are all headed up north states so no reason to be in Florida at all!
I had 10 items effected & all started moving when i did a missing package search at this point only one has not been the found & the post office closed the case. I am waiting on the customer to open the case as item not received.
I had a $1,400 dollar package that never got scanned in. Fortunately, I purchased the insurance, and surprisingly the claim went in my favor even though it was never scanned in by USPS. So both myself and the buyer came out whole.
After hundreds of experiences with Ebay as a buyer, and only a handful as a seller, I am convinced of this one thing: Ebay will never lose, whether it is through their self-serving labyrinth which they refer to as their seller and buyer resolution algorithms which all seem to relieve Ebay the onus of any culpability in any transaction.
They are you have to wait 30 days to file lost in mail claim. You have to send pictures, receipts and tracking numbers. If you "update tracking" sometimes it gets things moving. If any of your shipments are from Dec. 12th, there was an ebay misprints labels glitch that day and Ebay has seller protections in place for those. That's all the info I have right now. Busy doing refunds.😮
Yes I too am having issues with USPS package deliveries showing late or not showing moving. One of my packages was mailed Dec 3rd and still has not been delivered to the customer. The customer has contacted me and both have been working with our post offices but couldn't do anything USPS online either.
This happened to me. They closed my case within a minute of the buyer opening it because I didn't provide proof of delivery. The package was lost apparently and stopped tracking. I had been communicating with the buyer. I got a check from usps. Not sure what else I could have done.
do you scan at the machine in the lobby? because that isn't an official scan. the receipt says it's a pending scan until they receive the item. they say you can scan it at the machine and not put it into the bin or slot.
Go directly to your local post office and ask them to look up those tracking numbers. They probably took the site down because they don't want to be swamped with requests that will eventually show up over the busiest season. But, the post master can still look it up for you. If they say they are too busy, then leave the numbers with them and plan on checking back in the next day. Also, if you feel the scanner isn't working, then check all your scans in 24 hrs to make sure it is showing in the system. It sounds like a lot of work, but it is nothing compared to the lost customers, Ebay reports, and stress.
I dont think its anything your doing wrong dave its a massive problem with usps right now im having the same issue right now multiple packages that i shipped weeks ago now have zero scans besides the acceptance scan and buyers are getting upset. File the missing mail claims is about all we can do right now.
Wait until the case deadline. File a usps claim if it says you dropped off, if it says you didn’t drop it off, no claim can be filed. If you get the check before it’s delivered you keep that ins claim check. I would file the ins claim asap.
Not simply usps, I have packages stuck at fedex, ups and usps😡 no movement in a week! Slacker work force is the problem- folks want $20 an hour but god forbid they must work to get it🤬🤬 And no choice but to refund if they are lost. The icky side of reselling😭
2 had that happen with 2 items that have not gone past my local post office, then after a month, one of them has been delivered, unfortunately the other one hasn’t been delivered yet. Crossing my fingers that they find it.
Im in a local Town facebook group and there are like 3 posts a day about lost packages, Packages delivered but not to the right house, and people who received a package thats not theirs.
When it comes to the cases opened against me for "item has not arrived," I always send message asking them to wait, then I open a missing package with shipping company, and I will not refund until the very last day but only if there has not a been an update on the tracking. But, generally, I never refund because the buyer either closes the case once they receive the item or I contact eBay to get involved because the item gets delivered. But that's just me.
Hi Dave so the first thing you need to do is call eBay to get an 10-day extension on those missing packages. Update the request with just the tracking number. File missing package with USPS. IT'S ANNOYING BECAUSE THE USPS MISSING PACKAGE WEBSITE IS THE SLOWEST ON THE INTERNET. Then wait to see if it gets delivered. If there's no delivery you'll have to refund the buyer and file a insurance claim with USPS.
I have a problem with packages of mine that are going to Florida. Every single one I have sold this year going there have been dead slow lost or returned. No other state has been that way for me. Are you signed up for informed delivery from usps it makes it much easier to report missing packages at least in my experience.
The problem is Ebay is making promises to buyers about specific date range on shipping services that is not guaranteed date specific. And if that package is not received by that date, the buyer can open a case and once that case is opened, you have 3 days to prove delivery. @@joytoyouandme4593She meant that you need to channel the Karen energy and approach the USPS jerks in a crass manner. Don't nitpick, joytoy (hmm), it's something that a real Karen would do.
Yes. When a case is closed without seller resolution, it is a strike against your account.
I even had one package being shipped to Nashville TN.
Thanks Dave!
I agree, keep communicating with your buyers and 9 times out of ten, they’re patient and understanding.
I had a package get dropped off at USPS on Dec. 6th in Texas. It didn't get an acceptance scan until Dec 19 and it was in New Hampshire lol.
Very true!! All Post offices are not created equal!! Some are terrible!!
USPS is the poster child of a government run business.
when you get the URL to long message just hit refresh and the page usually loads, USPS site is odd, but hitting refresh usually works
Yes. This is what I came here to say.
I did not know you could ask for an extension. Thanks for the information.
I think it's very important to keep messaging buyer and help smooth stuff over and also keep closer track of your deliveries
👍🏼 thankfully, it has worked for me. Most buyers are patient and understanding if you keep up communication with them. 🙏🏼
DAVE DO NOT REFUND UNTIL EBAY SAYS YOU HAVE TO... CALL EBAY FOR AN EXTENSION...
I’ve had a couple same issues with USPS and several with FedEx Economy whenever my shipments go from East to West Coast.
You’re not alone Dave. My buyer just gave me a negative feedback instead of opening an item not received. I messaged the buyer to try to explain the situation, and I will also reach out to eBay.
I enjoy all you’re videos I have been watching you’re videos since you lived in NC .I live in Sanford NC .You are a great seller keep up good work .
That’s why I always stand in line with my packages and get a receipt with the scan in.
Man.... usps is messing up orders and mail everywhere. We are having horrible issues with them here in SE missouri. Its a cluster.
"USPS in Possession of item"
Lonnie and Candice had a good video(s) last week about how to handle USPS right now, Candice has been on it.
Dealing with same issues. Thank God I got lucky and have very understanding buyers. Hasn't always been the case in years past lol.
Your drafts may still have same day shipping. Make sure you’re updating the shipping time on your drafts
I have had no cases for missing packages. Most of my customers are ecstatic how quick there items are arriving.
Usually if you do a missing mail form it starts to move. Sometimes the form isn't available so you have to just try again later..
That’s why I try and go up to the counter all the time some people just go into the post office and dump and go
I couldn't make money reselling since I'm rural. I gave up. I kept seeing worse and worse issues with Ebay (not in my experience, but seeing others discuss their issues) and I just couldn't make reselling work for me. It's devastating for me as it was what I was relying on for income since I'm unable to do anything else, being disabled.
I take all my packages in to Usps personally and get it scanned and get a receipt.
We currently have a package which doesn’t show any scans, but we shipped out over 10 items that day. $50 book. Sucks, but is rare.
Love your videos Dave! Hope you and your family have a Very Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁🤗
I have 17 cards mailed out on The 26th of last month that still haven't shown up in tracking.
I usually have to open the missing mail link twice to get it to work. I think they do that to deter people.
I had ebay actually delay closing a case once because the package had recent movement.
Yes I too am having issues with USPS package deliveries showing late or not showing moving. One of my packages was mailed Dec 3rd and still has not been delivered to the customer. The customer has contacted me and both have been working with our post offices but couldn't do anything USPS online either.
I always take my packages to USPS and get items scanned on location also any item over $50 I get a signature confirmation with id verification.
Fill out a missing mail form and be sure to select the option to have it returned to you. You should get the item back.
Sometimes stuff doesnt scan until it reaches the buyers area at the end right before delivery. Idk why they do this but might happen this way.
I had something shipped from Florida tracking was never updated till the day it arrived. the post office is probably overstressed with packages.
Thats why I don't do the drop off thing. I take in and make them scan and give me receipt that proves they got it at the post office
