it also makes a difference when you've practiced the song enough to the point where you don't have to worry about making mistakes, as well as how recently you practiced the song
once the audience started clapping he really loosened up and started fleshing out the chords much more. i think he was concentrating way too hard on not making any mistakes before that
Dave is actually really good. not steller or anything but definitely more entertaining than I expected and good enough to carry a tune to completion. I see no reason why he cant come out with a small album or some similar project like that. I would most assuredly give it a listen and I know the world would too.
I love this man! Funny, well spoke, VERY INTELLIGENT and a cool laid back guy. But what I like most about him is that he drums to his own beat....got to love people like that 🥰
Funny thing is in a lot of documentaries or specials on him, when ever he's around a piano he always plays this song. ?uestlove has said before Dave has dedicated himself to only play 'Round Midnight and Misty
That’s okay...I think most non piano players have 1or 2 little things they chose to learn, as a child or teen, and just never got any further. My wife, god bless her, she’s been playing chop sticks for around 45 years, now. Lol.

It’s pretty cool that a reflective, deep comedian like Chapelle chose to play Round Midnight.
Thats his go to song and he has talked about it for years but I had no clue he actually plays it?
His street party gig showed it
TomB Stone ill check that out
It is the most recorded and most played Jazz Standard.
Its the only song he knows how to play

For real.
You and the band when your non musician friend wants to play, so you play around them to make them feel great about it. Wholesome music moment
@@evanwilliamson8338 The trumpet player stepped into to play him the melody line to when he asked "am I close?"
Surprised? Dave C. attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in D.C. as a teenager.
Yeah i was surprised! Lol Thanks for sharing that!!
Wow
This video been on here for 9 years and it's just blowing up. How strategic of youtube
Here he's playing a song called Round Midnight. His upcoming project is titled Midnight Miracle.
Coincidence, or nah?
Well another layer to add to mr Chappell’s talent
he is also a Jujitsu master, a ventriloquist, a world renowned breeder of rare fish and a certified deep sea wielder on the weekends
Your joking right?
I’d believe this 🙌
Of all the things to casually play.. Thelonious Monk was the Picasso of jazz piano. Real left field stuff.
🤣🤣🤣
He wields deep seas ? Must be a hell of a job
Genius is never one dimensional...Mr Chapelle, you sir, inspire us to better.
He sucks
Almost 10 years and NOBODY commenting on the INCREDIBLE Mrs. Mauleon??!! A Legend in Latin Music! Great cameo!!
I am with you buddy April 2021
That part!!
He's playing round midnight that was very unexpected
I love him even more now...! I can't believe that's what he would choose to play, and I'm stunned he can actually play it...damn Dave
The drummer beautifully chimed in and made Dave Chappelle sound even better.
Playing piano in front of many people with all eyes and ears on you is a lot different than playing piano at home alone too.
