I have one of these traps and IT IS EFFECTIVE. I average 10 to 12 a day. I put mine one the ground just under the birdfeeder and I, too, leave a female bait bird.
mindy curran they tend to bite, I normally reach in and grab out sparrows then just open the door for the native birds so I reduce stress on them. somtimes you have to grab out native just be gentle and release them asap to reduce stress. stress can kill small birds
waste of $100! so far caught a cardinal, mouse, carolina wren, and titmouse.. thank GOD they weren't injured as I released them... what a waste and pain

I believe the instructions say OFF the ground approx 2ft
Hi Everest. Have you ever caught a native bird along with the house sparrows, and had to reach in to rescue? If so, how difficult was that?

it's awful!! it's all I have caught is native birds, 1 sparrow in weeks
look at how erratic they are, they may as well be flys. I can't stand house sparrows. damn vermin.
How do you cook them?
don't cook them in a falconer I feed them to my hawks, they are destructive to native species
Wish i could find a falconer to give mine to.

Declan1205. Yes, and if he doesn't come back, they'll die, too. It's a double whammy in the best possible way.
