Whistle sprinting - Mash jump and whistle buttons real fast while you run. The jump propels you forward, the whistle cancels the stumble animation when you land, the next jump cancels the whistle animation, etc.. It's a particular rhythm but if you find it you actually run faster than agro's trot speed
Well they kinda sorta big stoney zoo which also contains shards of elder dark God essence, which can grant any wish. So basically you are just slaying some mindless innocent golems to ressurect Ur gurl.
@@thatonescarecrow4692 THANK YOU! I don't understand why everyone seems to forget the part where Dormin LITERALLY SAYS OUT LOUD that the Colossi were just ''boxes'' made to contain his power.
This is such a fun run to watch. The physicality and movement physics of the character in this game give it so much potential for cool stunts, best exemplified by that absurd jump during the Gaius fight. What a joy to watch!!
Amazing run by Church and I hope everyone enjoys watching this run as much as I did commentating. Let's see if our prediction comes true despite my poor wording haha
This might have been the most supportive couch I've heard. And I don't just mean the explanations, but there were a lot of reassurances when the runner was getting on himself over making small mistakes. Awesome, runner, awesome couch, awesome game.
As a long time speedrunner of the game. It was so nice seeing this run. Seeing people mind-blown with the strats, And of course, #Colossilivesmatter, I'm actively talking to those runners everyday and we're still discovering new things together to keep the game alive, and having sotc on agdq makes the game itself prolongs even further! Props to church doing a excellent run. SotC is a tough game and I say that by experience. And he did it very well.
So, is there no tech for moving through the game world faster for SotC regular story mode? I feel like every time I see a run of this game at a GDQ it's always time attack. Not complaining, I mean the colossi are by far the most interesting part so I'm down for getting to them faster. Was just wondering I guess.
No movement tech sadly besides the odd Agro rear for a 2 second time save, or a small parkour section. Mostly just a horse-riding simulator for the travel segments. The Any%/full-game speedrun is also dicey because on certain colossus there is no easy retry point (you have to die to reset the colossus, so you gotta find a cliff or hope the colossus does a good amount of damage to kill Wander quickly), and some colossi don't have great backup strats in the case of a miss. So it isn't very marathon safe, though still something that can be consistently done under 1:45 so there may be a day where a GDQ sees the Any% run. It was run at ESA by Elajjaz.
Just the community in general is amazing. One of the most dedicated out there I've seen. When you spend 10 years+ to uncover 1 secret it's just mind blowing.
Amazing run. I was able to use a few of these techniques myself in order to crack some hard trial mode colossi who were giving me trouble. Got a 4:51 on Gaius after many tries, very pleased with that
I remember a glitch I did on the PS2 version, where in one of the water colossus fights, I jumped out of the water in some weird way so that when the evil spaghetti got to me, it zipped me onto the floor of the lake, and did the land animation for it. I wonder if that's still possible in this.
This is such an atmospheric, tragic and slow pased game that it´s almost sad seeing it speed run. But great work anyway. F for every Colossus who died for this run.
I'm a little older and not caught up on memes. What is "BibleThump"? I understand what a _bible thumper_ is but that's usually a derogatory term and BibleThump does not seem to be used that way. Thanks in advance.
As an avid player of this game it blows my mind to see them do those physics jumps! In the game my leaps were always like leaps of faith and they just slingshot themselves onto the colossus!!! Do these runners have like guides or tutorials of how to practice those jumps? I'd love to try them.
Theron has a really good up-to-date guide on his channel. You can also find more on the speedrun. com page. The discord server is also great to ask for tips and advice ; )
@@hammerklav8152 Don't use my real name, dad. But yeah, I have a tutorial on my channel for the PS4 version and two tutorials for the PS3 version. I'd recommend trying Argus if you have a PS4 (15th colossus), it's not actually that difficult and it is probably one of the coolest to show off with, the hand is a little rough though.
i just started playing this game and comparing how they kill the colossi vs how i did it and omg. i literally struggled so hard on a couple and then he kills them without them even finishing their animations lol
All the credit in the world to Church and his team, but watching this reminded me how infuriating it is to actually play. A lot better to watch than play.
Hey just out of curiosity, is the NEOH in Church's name refer to Northeast Ohio? If so, hey to a fellow Northeast Ohio Shadow of the Colossus fan, one of the most legendary games of all time.
Dormin:This journey will be very long and difficult...You might not survive...In order to resurrect her soul you will have to deafeat 16 mighty foes... Wander:Ok sure,I have a couple minutes to spare 😄
I played it for the first time today. I'm a trophy collector so I forced myself to speed run in hard mode (that's one of the trophies). 3 giants killed in an hour, and you do it in all in 37 mins?!
I don't understand how these guys can climb the 1st Colossus during the cutscene. Sure, practice or w/e, but how did you learn what to press in order to practice it? What can I Google to learn how these speed run strats work?
Bruh, I'm trying to beat the Time Attacks using these methods and I am raaaaging. x.x Particularly on the 15th. Some of them were surprisingly easy, though.
WeavileGuy it’s a very difficult game haha. The tricks themselves can be learned pretty easily but there are so many in such a short amount of time that not messing up one of them is insanely hard. Not even my WR has 0 retries.
If the Giant is fighting an ant ("Human") wouldn't it be possible for the Giants wound to clot ? Just like how humans wound clot after being injected by a Syringe or a needle.
The difference would have been him horse riding to each colossus, which isn't smth interesting to see Not like this game has more to it than the colossi and some side activities to increase health/stamina
I think it would've been too boring to watch. Just a lot of room for donations, but notging else. Also, you can't screw up anything if you want to have a good time while you can just restart on time attack.
Is there any interesting movement on the way to the colossi? I feel like doing a run of the whole game would just add a hour of donations during traversal to the colossi.

ChuckthatTea it’s ez to find you can look them up and some fans know them
Avion means "plane" in French.
The colossi did something wrong. Exist. I've beat the game 5 times and counting.
That's true. They're just there to keep the soul of Dormin trapped and Wander just shows up and kills them
PHALANX DID NOTHING WRONG
PHALANX DID NOTHING RIGHT EITHER
What did any of them ever do? Well... except Dirge maybe...
@@NFITC1 HE NEVER HAD TO, HE WAS JUST BEING HIMSELF.

Phalanx exists that was the problem
Excellent couch, very active with the commentary.
Raycroissant I couldn’t have done it without them
Sadly the audience was super small, one of the better couches though
I saw him whistling during the Malice section. That bastard knows what just happened in the story and the whistling hurts my soul
Zachary Burns haha whistling actually speeds you up to your max speed.
Mike Church the strats people use to go quicker in every game are always so interesting and cool to find out about. Never knew that!
Yeah I also notice it... But Agron never died:!!!

This is amazing because sometimes the colossus’ AI doesn’t react the way you want them to be. Good job.
Doing time attack was already frustrating by the AI, I can only imagine speedrunning the game. More power to Churcj, great run!

Not without a little yelling at the TV though.
Very nice to see this game added to the game list!
I’m surprised theres not dlc for more colossi
