Concerning Anakin's creepiness I've always interpreted it as the fact that as a jedi he wasn't taught how to express his emotions but how to repress them. I think it works for most of the jedis because they haven't known anything else because they were trained since they were toddlers. However Anakin began at 9 and he was already full of emotions, so when you have all of this in you and you aren't allowed to express it, it gives this creepy, awkward and after all overly honest talk.
And I think Padme likes his honesty and his recklesness because she wasn't allowed to have fun, to be a child, since she was at the head of a planet at 14. And she must not have seen many sincere people during that time neither, so it must be good to have someone who talks his mind without any filter.
That's my take on it anyway

    • @Jackalos1
      @Jackalos1 Год назад +13

You're exactly right about Anakin being taught to repress his emotions rather than express them. Note, the music that plays during the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan/Maul battle in Episode I is called "Duel of the Fates" - Qui-Gon's death determined Anakin's fate as Obi-Wan teaches in a much more 'by the book' way than Qui-Gon would've, ultimately influencing many of his decisions in this movie and the next.

@@Jackalos1 Obi Wan just wasn’t the right person for Anakin, who was a troubled, and conflicted guy. I wonder why Obi Wan didn’t train Anakin the way that Qui Gon would’ve done it? At least Obi Wan learned from his mistakes and goes about training Luke very differently, he wasn’t overly critical, and he listened to him. He was able to amend his mistakes with Anakin in how he went about training Luke.

@@Shutterbug5269 I'm fairly sure it's not supposed to be "romance dialogue" - Anakin is an awkward teenager, who's never flirted with a girl - it would be way more jarring if Anakin wasn't extremely cringe trying to impress Padmé.

    • @Shutterbug5269
      @Shutterbug5269 Год назад +5

It is possible to write "awkward teenager" without making Anakin sound creepy.
George Lucas has always suffered from poor dialog choices. In the Original trilogy, however Harrison Ford knew him well enough (they'd been friends for years before Star Wars) to take him aside and tell him when it wasn't working.
Nobody acting in the prequels was secure enough in their careers or knew him well enough to dare do that and the prequels suffered for it.

I mean, Palpatine could've also rammed a speeder with explosives into Padmé's penthouse while yelling "It's me, Sheev!"
But he didn't need her dead. Gunray wanted her dead, but the Sith didn't give a damn about Gunray. They repeatedly dismissed him when he told them to kill her.
It was more than enough to endanger her, get her off the planet, make the senators feel unsafe and more prone to vote for authoritarian safety measures and give them a taste for the clone army.
If Darth Sidious wants someone dead he kills them. If he wants to anonymously stir up conflict he hires a chain of underlings.
Not too hard to get behind.

@@VerowakReacts The Force works in mysterious ways... So this might go into a bit more detail, but it's never directly said in any of the movies so I don't think it can really be considered a spoiler at all, and it's still just speculation on my part...
You just know/recognize it if you've done stuff like read the books or played the games, but Jango is from a culture of warriors renowned for their ability to fight Jedi/Force users (based on his armor). And I think if he had targeted either Anakin or Obi-Wan with direct intent they would've sensed it coming via the Force and blocked/avoided it and taking away his element of surprise, leaving Zam (the changeling) alive in their custody, so he took the safest option to take her out of the equation entirely and then booked it out of there.

Remember Vader said in New Hope, "The Force is strong with this one"), Lightsabers that somehow turn light into a solid, brother and sister kissing each other, Anakin's Mom is a knock-off of Mary, Mother of Jesus? No father, just germs for a Dad? Han Shot First until he didn't shoot first. Anakin's mom let's him make a Major Life Decision at age Nine? What could go wrong with that? LOL Need I go on? @@VerowakReacts Okay, I was going to make a separate comment but I'll add it here since it's on this subject. Dooku being one of the best, but so is Yoda. Earlier in the movie Obi-Wan had a throwaway joke to Anakin that has a basis in truth, "If you spent as much time practicing your saber techniques as you do your wit, you would rival Master Yoda as a swordsman." Because Anakin is naturally talented at fighting.
Now that scene between Anakin and Dooku that you didn't like because you felt it was like a rave with the red and blue light from the sabers is one of my favorite moments lol. In my mind they're both so good at fighting and now with it being dark they're relying more on the Force to guide their movements and they're both making adjustments to each other on the fly before they can even come into contact with each other from their last move. Which results in more of a fluid dance fight, though some moves were still hitting just not as hard and direct as we normally see. I think the scene is mainly there to show how even in darkness they don't lose their focus (mirroring the scene in episode IV where Obi-Wan has Luke try to deflect bolts from a training droid while having a visor obstruct his vision but he can't do it).
To compare it with an idea from the Twilight books (no idea if you've read/seen them, sorry) Edward can read minds and Alice can see the future. So when they "play a game of chess" they often do it having only actually moved a few pieces by the time one of them wins. Since he can read her mind and she knows what move he'll make before he does it, it all plays out in their heads.
That's just how I see it haha.
(My least favorite scene in this movie is the fireside chat Anakin and Padme have... so cringy. "If you're suffering as much as I am please, tell me!")

So, important details that the film leaves out:
Count Dooku was a padawan of Yoda who trained Qui-Gon Jinn, and took Qui-Gon's death very hard. He also saw the looming corruption in the Senate and in the Republic overall, and also the dogmatic responses the Jedi had to all of this, which was to do nothing substantive. Dooku is actually a Count as well, a noble of the planet Serenno, and he decided (at the urging of Darth Sidious) to use his fortune to bankroll the start of the Separatist movement: a group of planetary systems and corporations that had had it with the Republic's heavy-handed taxation policies and regulation of their industries. Dooku wasn't exactly a model Sith apprentice, as he viewed the Dark Side as just a way for him to achieve his goal of an independent state separated from the Republic, he was never truly an evil guy, he'd just tolerated the Jedi's inaction and tolerance of corruption long enough.
Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas was a former Council member, who had the gift of foresight. One day he had a vision of the future, a future in which the Republic was at war and was losing, so he proposed to the Council that they push the Chancellor to create an army to combat this threat. The Council did not put much stock in his visions and refused him, and after he repeatedly kept forcing the issue, they stripped him of his Councillor status. Sifo-Dyas was determined to aid the Republic despite the Jedi not taking his warning seriously, and sought out the Kaminoans, forging a Senatorial approval to create the clone army that they would need. Darth Sidious discovered this and had Sifo-Dyas killed, having Dooku (now Darth Tyrannus) taking over the payments to the Kaminoans and adding the clones in to his web of deceit as he worked to continue his grand plan to take over the galaxy.
HIGHLY recommend you check out the Clone Wars series. The first season is a little bit campy/childish, but the rest of the series is fucking amazing. You saw some of the Jedi Masters that are in that series here in the arena on Geonosis: Ki-Adi-Mundi, Kit Fisto, Shaak-Ti, Luminara Unduli, and of course Mace Windu. You'll also meet another very important person in Anakin's life in that show: Ahsoka Tano.

There's also Rebels vs Empire as well so both eras of Star Wars were in the game.
Battlefront 2 then expanded on everything with Revenge of the Sith context and a fun story that started in the Clone Wars and went all the way to Battle of Hoth from Empire Strikes Back. And finally Star Wars: Bounty Hunter where we played as Jango Fett before the events of Attack of the Clones and even before the events of The Phantoms Menace, pretty sure this took place a few years before or around the same time as Episode 1. There has been a lot of stuff on Dooku lately. After watching ROTS, I highly recommend learning more about Dooku. Super highly recommended is the acclaimed Clone Wars tv series. As well as the recent animated anthology "Tales of the Jedi" that put so much more context to Dooku's fall to the Dark Side and his very close relationship to Qui-Gon, and his first apprentice, Rael Averross. I also recommend the following canon books if you want know more about Qui-Gon and Dooku: "Master and Apprentice," and "Dooku: Jedi Lost." For a non-canon look into Yoda and Dooku's relationship as master and apprentice, the Clone Wars era novel "Dark Rendezvous" is considered the best non-canon novel from the Prequel Era. More background on Dooku is useful because the films are thin on the ground, but long story short, Dooku was considered to be the finest Jedi of his time and a prodigy in the Force from a young age. So much so, that Yoda broke the Jedi rule, and his own personal rule, to take Dooku has his Padawan. Grand Masters are not supposed to have an apprentice, and Yoda had resolved to never take another apprentice, and kept this rule for 300 years. But, Dooku was so remarkable that Yoda felt only he could properly mentor him. Dooku leaving the Jedi and later falling to the Dark Side was an immense coup for Sidious. Yoda describes the whole situation with Dooku becoming a Sith as thus: "The stongest? Hmmm? The wisest? The most learned? Dooku was. *Our greatest student, our greatest failure."*

He seemed quite charitable in comparison to everyone else since he was putting on his act and using the dark side to cloud the metaphorical vision of the Jedi. Qui-Gon was a better fit than Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan was too much like an older brother to Anakin when he really needed a father figure. That was the void that Palpaptine was able to fill to gain Ani's trust. That's why Qui-Gon dying and Kenobi surviving the Duel of the Fates is actually the worst outcome. Both surviving has Anakin trained by Oui-Gon, both dying has Anakin trained by another Jedi at least not as young as Obi but Obi-Wan surviving and promising that he would be the one to train Anakin dooms him to join the Dark Side.

If you go back at the 22:51 mark of the video, you can catch the faint outline of Darth Vader's helmet from the created by shadow of Anakin's head on the wall. This wasn't intentional, and they only noticed it during post-production editing. Nice Easter Egg, and George Lucas liked it so much they kept the shot in the film. I commented on the last of your video that Jar Jar had a role to play in the Clone Wars and how things develop. Padme was a member of the Loyalist Committee actively working against the creation of any Republic Army, which is why she had returned to Coruscant in the first place. She wanted to pursue more diplomatic means with the Separatists to avoid a full war. With her gone from the Senate unable to vote, Jar Jar was left as the Representative of Naboo. It was easy for Palpatine and others to manipulate and convince him that if Padme were there, she would have the courage to vote FOR the creation of an army to defend the Republic. Jar Jar just thought he was doing what Padme would have wanted done given the information they had about Dooku and the Separatists.

The directing fail regarding the romance is that we did not get a feeling for the passage of time.
That the two of them were stuck together alone for days, maybe weeks.
Both of them were constantly training and working with no free time, no one their age around, never had a chance for sexuality.
Then you take these two sexually pent up attractive young adults, and have them bored with nothing to do for days alone in a villa, no TV, no work, no training.
It is difficult to imagine these two not hooking up even if she was not particularly attracted to him originally. Time together would close the age gap and erase the problem that she used to babysit him with new common experiences.
One could not have planned it any better if they were a Sith Lord disguised as the galactic governor trying to plant seeds of disloyalty and fear of loss in a young Jedi. Remind me, who was it who suggested Anakin escort Padme anyway?

Great reaction! So I was supposed to go see this movie in theatres with my friends once the school year was over. I was in grade 9 and starting in like January of 2002 my friends and I made plans to go see the movie after exams were over. But two things happened. The weekend before we were supposed to go, a friend of mine had a pool party to celebrate the end of the school year, and to say goodbye to a friend who was moving into the city over the summer (I lived in a rural area in the middle of nowhere). So my mom made me choose between the movie and the pool party. I chose the pool party because I could always see the movie later in the summer, but I might not see the friend who was moving away again once she moved. So then after the pool party, my mom was gonna let me go to the movie with my friends anyway, but something else came up and I still couldn't go. Another friend of mine, who I had a crush on, and who had a crush on me it turns out, couldn't go that weekend either.
So, she and I planned to go later in the summer when she had time off of work. But by the time our schedules lined up, the movie wasn't in theatres anymore, so we went to see Austin Powers in Goldmember instead because there was literally nothing else in theatres by the end of the summer that either of us wanted to see since The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Star Trek Nemesis weren't coming out until like November or December. So when Attack of the Clones was released on VHS and DVD, my parents rented the movie on VHS for my siblings and I as we didn't have a DVD player yet and wouldn't get one until that Christmas. So it was like September or October before I would see Attack of the Clones. Also, sidenote, Attack of the Clones was the last Star Wars movie to be released on VHS in North America. Revenge of the Sith had a VHS release in the U.K., Germany, Finland, and Australia in 2005, but by that point most movie studios had phased out VHS releases in North America in favour of DVD by 2005, aside for Warner Bros. and Disney, though Disney would reserve VHS releases for the Disney Movie Club until 2007.

Actually, the first version of the script was titled 'Jar Jar's Great Adventure'. What a self-aware joke from Lucas. :D
Funny how Obi-Wan says "never lose your lightsaber" but I feel like he lost his more times than Anakin did. :D
If Qui-Gon lived, everything would have been different. The Jedi Council and Obi-Wan had a part in Anakin's descent, too. Force Sensitive children are usually taken as infants, so the Jedi can work on a "blank sheet". They had no idea what to do or how to handle a child with a past, especially a troubled one. Yes, Anakin was pure in Episode 1 but the one time he got angry was when Padmé asked "are you a slave?" That definitely impacted him. The strict rules of the Jedi reminded him of slavery. He would have needed therapy and a good father figure. Obi-Wan was more like a brother to him. That's how Palpatine managed to fill in the father figure role.
And of course Anakin was awkward around Padmé. He never had a chance before to learn how to flirt. For first attempt it's commendable. :D I always believed that Padmé loved him because he was the only one who treated her and talked to her like she was a person and not a political figure.

Loved elements of this movie mostly from an in universe lore building viewpoint from seeing Kamino for the first time a planet with a very advance aesthetic compared to the other parts of the universe which have that retro 1970s futurism look. I also loved the Coruscant chase very Judge Dredd (Comic series from the 1970s) in its aesthetic has that mega city looked mixed with retro 1970s and in this case 1950s futurism vehicles. Naboo of course is back and it's just amazing very Hagia Sophia designs gives it a totally different look you can tell right away its an ancient culture who held onto their culture throughout the years. Fun detail but the Naboo ships such as the yellow Naboo fighters were based on 1950s sports cars George Lucas the creator of Star Wars wanted to go for a more sleek and clean design to contrast the dirty and used look of the average more common ships of the galaxy to show the wealth Naboo had which i find really interesting and one of the reasons why i love the Naboo fighters.
Should point out that the Clone Troopers are not Stormtroopers. Stormtroopers are enlisted citizens from across the Galactic Empire while Clone Troopers were Clones of Jango Fett (who you saw in this movie in his blue and sliver Mandalorian armour beheaded by Mace) who were created to be soldiers for the Grand Army of the Republic. Clones age twice as fast so by the age of 10 years of age they'd already be adults which is pretty dark when you think about it. You may notice that the Clone armour looks very similar to that of Stormtrooper armour but different enough that you can tell them apart. We also have the kid with Jango who he refers to as Boba a name you may recognise.
The Battle of Geonosis was amazing we got to see some many new toys from the LAAT which acts as the main gunship and dropship for the Republic has a real Bell UH-1 Iroquois "Huey" feel to it giving it a very Vietnam war feel. We also have the AT-TE walker which may remind you of a AT-AT used by the Empire and one of my favourite and underrated vehicles the SPHA-T also known as the The Self-Propelled Heavy Artillery Turbolaser those big laser stations which shot down the Trade Federation ships that landed on the planet. On the topic of the trade ship fun detail but the middle part of the Lucrehulk also known as the donut ship to many new fans, disconnects from the ring around it which lets it land on planets and trade with the locals like you see in this movie.
Also introduced in this movie is the CIS (Confederacy of Independent Systems) a faction made up of many different star systems that had withdrawn their membership from the Galactic Republic. From members of the Techno Union to some members of the trade federation this is why there's new droids vehicles and ships in this film, many factions provided the CIS with there own droids, equipment, ships, and vehicles. Of course anything you recognise from Episode 1 is provided by Nute Gunray from the Trade ships to the B1 Battledroids.
And finally "Begun the Clone Wars have" pretty much a WW2 level conflict that is not explored much in these movies but the amazing Clone Wars TV show from 2018 to 2021 fills in the gaps across 7 Seasons diving into our main characters but also side characters and even the Clones making them really fun characters all with their own personality.
Overall not the best of the prequals many even regard it as the weakest one i love the 2nd half of the movie but i totally agree it's really just a build up to the end of the film and the start of the Clone Wars. Revenge of the Sith is far better and in my opinion the best of the prequals and to many fans around my age who grew up in the 2000s maybe born in 1999 like myself would even say that Revenge of the Sith is their favourite Star Wars movie. The Clone Wars TV show definitely adds so much to Episode 3 which makes it even better Clone Wars taking place between Episodes 2 and 3 within the three years of the war.

Just know the Clones are not Stormtroopers. There is an excellent SW animated tv show called « The Clone Wars » which is set between episode II and III, created by George Lucas and Dave Filoni. I really suggest you to watch it in your free time if you want to. If you watch it in the end, be sure NOT to follow the release order (season 1,2,3 etc…) but the chronological order list instead (on the internet). Btw I actually suggest to watch the first 8 episodes on this list before you watch SW ep III, it will give you much more context :)

The romance dialogue is awkward but it is "intentionally awkward" - Anakin never had love interests before Padme, so it's very natural that he tried in more or less effective ways of flirting. I wouldn't call him "creepy" - just inexperience. I personally think that this is very natural - many people have problem with right putting their words, especially when they talks with their heart (not even necessarily on dating area; just during talking about something dear to them). And some other parts were also inspired by Shakespeare. Padme is drawn to Anakin because he is one of few people that are themselves around her. She is politician after all, and people with whom she works aren't always honest. Anakin is straightforward and free-spirited and she longs for someone like that.
I absolutely love their romance and I think people misunderstand them in many ways. I recently found that amazing video about why "awkward" dialogue actually make sense in context of their story - I encourage to check, if someone is interested in that point of view: ruclips.net/video/4hhfEzgfvZ8/видео.html

Tales of the Jedi put so much more context to Dooku's fall to the Dark Side and his very close relationship to Qui-Gon, and his first apprentice, Rael Averross.

About the terrible romance/dialog: In these prequels, George Lucas had gotten obsessed with the special effects visuals to the exclusion of all else. In the original movies, he didn't even direct Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi, which may be why they are pretty good. But in the prequels, everything was on green screen, and Lucas didn't care much about the directing (and he has always not been great at dialog), so they suffer a lot. Christopher Lee said it was a really bad experience because of all of that.
There's also kind of a factor of Lucas being so famous at this point that people treated his dialog/script like they were reciting lines from a holy book, so it felt too awkward and serious, so the performances seem too stiff.
But have hope! The third movie is better than these two.
