Best presentation of this glorious operetta aria! Sissel is in top form.
She is stunning, innocent, and her voice sounds as pure as a bell.
Even the top notes, which most sopranos fail, come through perfectly. Dance moves, gestures, facial expressions: it's all there!

She isn't just pretty, she is beautiful and adorable and lovely and graceful and ...I'm running out of adjectives.

She probably wanted personal control over her performance craft. Not to be manipulated by ‘the industry’. Wealth was not her primary goal. She loves to sing and wanted to share her gift and not be pigeonholed and forced to be less than her perfectionist nature strived for because someone else wanted her to do something with which she was not comfortable. She was very brave to admit that she was not ready or willing to be used. She may not be a multi-millionaire, but she has integrity and a wonderful skillset that has enriched our lives. I would think if she had've made Broadway or West End her target she would have succeeded. Here she has the voice for Maria certainly and as they say "she could dance the pants off ol Churchill" yet she seems to me too physical in her presence for Puerto Rican Maria. Natalie Wood was perfect in that regard but couldn't sing the part so was dubbed in the movie. certainly no need to dub SK.
