Most of the shepherds you see in Turkey or the people you see in the countryside are foreigners. For example, the shepherds are mostly Afghans. That's why he didn't understand anything from the phone translation. This is like going to the worst part of a city and being scared because you think everywhere is like this. When I saw homeless people and drug users on the streets in America, I was horrified and experienced a culture shock. I just returned from a 16-day trip to Europe and I better understood the richness of Turkey, which you call contrast but which I love very much. If there was a place called the European continent, which I think there is not, Türkiye would be a separate continent, not the Middle East. We have darker green regions than Switzerland and Austria combined.. our region close to the desert.. our snowy glaciers.. a huge Mediterranean region and we are surrounded by seas. We have cities that are more modern or more historical than many European cities. When I watched your video, my soul darkened. We host 15 million foreigners and troubles have come to us throughout history. Everyone should have hope, not pessimism. These things cannot happen by eating all the blessings of the world and becoming alienated from other geographies. Türkiye is paying a huge price.
There may be cultural differences. As a Turk, I lived outside my country for many years. Every country and region has different understandings. You shouldn't comment based on one part of it. Türkiye is a big country and it is very normal to have different cultural understandings in different regions. The situation you dramatize looks like propaganda. Yes, PROPAGANDA!
I don't think you will have a problem in Armenia or Azerbaijan, but Iran have religious police controlling women. You're not supposed to show skin or hair in public. Save travels.
What you described your experience Might get more extreme in Iran you gotta learn how to protect your self and stay in your core and filter annoyances and what are your triggers and limits and to just filter things from letting everything inז The thing about traveling I think is to just passing through and just try and stay a little more light and excepting from inside it doesn't mean you have to agree with everything but you don't need to identify Everything Other people say or do it's really about developing a more subtle lightweight curiosity than just diving into every interaction and every person it's just passing and it's not your fault that they think of certain things or that they might make you feel A certain way.
kurdish people live in the east of turkey and they are more conservative than turkish people thats why you dont see woman a lot also arabs are even more conservative than kurds seeing women like that can be shocking as you said
Nice to see you posting again. 👍 I had a thought on remote rural culture, that might have parallels with your experience. When travelling in SW China I discovered a couple of barriers to using translation apps. Literacy levels can sometimes be low, especially for older people, and not everyone speaks Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) as a first language, and even among the people who do there is often local dialect.
Hi, t he cultural difference is to be expected, in the rural areas. It is the same in more "western" countries like Greece, my home country. I don't know where you are now and if you are reading this, but I would be a bit careful if I was a woman traveling in Iran. Are you going solo or with your companion? And please comply with the norms in Iran as it is not known to be very tolerant of the more western way of womens apparel. Love from a fan!
😊I pray that you are o.k. haven't heard anything from you... No videos or a simple message that you are alive and well... Keep safe, and let your followers know how you are even if you're not riding... ✍️ write soon, you are missed❤ God is with you, just pray🙏
Hi! Thank you for sharing this amazing journey! I’m wondering, as a solo traveling female, would you feel as comfortable accepting the invites to sleep/eat/drink with the locals as you were here, traveling with company? ❤️
You are a strong woman, and don't think any less of yourself for having Teimo by your side You are travelling in very different countries and cultures now, so i hope you both safe travels together Take care !!
You should really get off yout high horse. You go through villages in Turkey and they are nice to you but still you complain. I suggest you talk to those Turks who have had encounters with villagers in Germany or Switzerland andask them about how they are treated. Then all of a sudden your experience would apear whole lot better.
I don’t complain. I simply state what I observe. I don't sugarcoat anything. It's two cultures meeting each other. I'm sure they also didn't understand why we live the way we do. (Or in your terms, they "complained" about us.)
@@giantcheerioI beg to differ. You did not simply state what you observe, you talked about how you "felt" out of place which is purely subjective. With all due respect, you seem to be on the cynical side of the spectrum and people like you are more prone to prejudgement and easier to be influenced by propaganda. So how you felt, has much more to do with you as a person than it has with people around you and your encounters
@@sabzsazanarchitecturegroup3269I think she has the right to express her feelings & emotions purely & honestly to her audiences. The way you did compare Germans hospitality & Turks ain’t relevant to this content & came from your personal experience which we don’t give a sh!t
She felt out of place because she was out of place. It’s not a huge issue if you’re traveling and taking in experiences. It’s obviously a much different culture with different ideologies and customs. Germany was quite conservative for hundreds of years, especially after the 1500s and the Reformation with Martin Luther. But they have grown evermoreliberal like many western countries when they have forsaken Christianity in the Bible.
Its not about religion. I guess its a culture now. I am a muslim who lives in Turkey (northern part) and I can say that things are much different around here. In the eastern part of turkey contains less educated people of the country due to several reasons like terrorism, racism, economical conditions etc. I dont want to discuss each one of these reasons but it is what it is. In islam women are strong as I leaned. Easiest example of this is the first wife of the Prophet. She was a well known trader of the region. I can feel that the "first wife" part will annoy so many people but that is a whole other story with logical reasons. You can just quicly search it up from the internet for the reasons.
It's generally much safer ... roads - assuming you avoid traffic clogged arteries - are less dangerous and the dog problem isn't nearly as severe. Majority of people will be very concerned with your safety given how few western travellers there are.
Your videos bring me joy. I stop what I am doing to watch them. I so envy your adventure. I am 67 and dream of such things. Who knows...perhaps I will start my own?
The term "middle east" is a term created by westerners trying to put Turks and Arabs in the same basket. we Turks are a society whose ancestors came from central asia and settled in anatolia and the balkans. iraq syria suidi arabia may be middle eastern .but we Turks are very different from them.
I can't describe what you do to me when I'm watching your stories. there are emotions, my hard throbbing and tears in my eyes. will it be your honesty your purity your sincerity the way you tell your story, how you edited it, the music? I don't know what it is, I can't describe it, what's going on? I love it, happy for you with what you're doing. so thank you sincerely for creating and sharing your story. hopefully you are doing well. Have a safe journey wherever you are and wherever it will take you.
Hallo Cheerio, wie geht es dir? Wir haben so lange nichts von dir gehort? Hi Cheerio, are you okay? We haven’t heard from you a long time, hope you are well and in good health and spirit! Warm greetings from a fellow cyclist 🎉❤
It feels good to still see you travel safely. And I can't wait to see you travel through Armenia. I really ride there too, beginning my travels next summer. Though I wont ride through Turkey, but take the ferry across the Black Sea. I wish you and Timo only the best and safest travels and thank you for sharing your experiences.
This particular episode seemed like I was watching a verité documentary on your travel through Turkey. Listening to your comments gave this a feeling of being poignant at times. So well done.
Wow what an intense journey! Thank you for sharing this. I'm just wondering how after these experiences you still want to go to Iran where it might be probably even more intense being a western woman but of course I'm already excited to see what happens and wish you all the best for your way!!
Are you now wondering why Europe is getting overrun from these people of a totally different culture and the ramifications of this...a stranger in your own land.

Every time I see something about Cappadocia, seems so touristy compared to when I backpacked through Turkey 30 years ago. It shouldn't be surprising of course and I feel glad that I travelled there way back then however it did make some elements of travel really hard because we didn't come across many other tourists and support for independent travellers wasn't broadly available. Inter town and Inter city buses were widespread so that wasn't too bad but chokingly full of smokers. It was a great experience though. It's a big country to cross by bike though and I can certainly I imagine the challenges as a solo woman. My girlfriend at the time was harassed even if I was close by within ear shot.
That's time travel. Some things change to the better .Others getting worse. Turkiye made a huge step in smoking free areas in the last 15 years and busses are one part of them. The infiltration by more more tourists (overtourism) is something which a lot of places experience. Like Venice wants to charge tourists to enter the town in peak hours. Nevertheless adapting to the surrounding and culture is one option of getting more easily accepted by locals .
I am sorry if those simple people, who seems nothing but nice to you, were offending your western values what ever those values are... That syrian family that were welcoming to you had a tradition that kept them as a unit with inner dignity even though they suffered so much and were expelled from their countries and are living underdiscrimination and poor treatment in every country they are and that culture that offended you so much have kept them as a family unit.
They didn’t offend me. We have different values of course and I appreciate that they opened their door for us. I still think of them very often and I am glad that they shared their daily life with me. I am thankful that we met them. Thankful that we were able to exchange our thoughts and values even though we weren’t on the same page. But that’s what it’s all about. Getting in touch, sharing thoughts and getting to know different cultures.
Hiii , Iam Mahesh from India. My dream is to Explore the world adventurously and i decided to explore the world by cycling and iam going to start my journey in this September 2024,,any advice please 😒😒 Note: Ignore my english (grammar)😊
I've been leading a colourless life for almost 15 years and my friends and well-wishers are trying variously to make my life colourful by providing a life partner for me but I've decided to lead a nomadic life with a bicycle and a camping tent like this by traveling different countries like you and I must do it within 2 or 3 years.
Some years back a colleague sort of invited me to hook up a TV set in his home. Anyway it was a disrupting experience. While his wife cooked food we later ate I didn´t get to know her. I didn´t dare to ask why we didn´t have dinner together, ha. That was in Berlin. These days I feel in the west there is paralyse between men and women. With all the challenges we face a society in which people know their culture and can relate to it is better positioned to solving problems. Imagine that evening you would have brought up a topic that would have questioned their way of life. You came out of the blue left an impression that can spark whatever in both men and women. I think that is the precious. And encounters like that can ignite magic in the long run. Keep that bottom bracket moving
Well as a Turkish if I had to explain Turkey with a few words I would also do it by the same. Turkey offers so much cultures and literally different cultures in every corner of the country. Also Turkish people can get confused and didnt get the way of thinking of his opposite. We have complicated politics and socialogy. Now you have experienced one of the cultures and got little bit closer to middle east. And our culture as a Turkic people and the culture from this geography is generally gets mixed and gets more tolerant but as you saw in this example syrians or some group of kurds can be more in the ends. Going to middle east by Turkey is a good choice for seeing things changing slowly and not directly.
Accepting that the purpose of travel is to see and experience new places, people and cultures, then you are hugely successful. I dont understand how people travel seeking only the experience and peoples they have known. Stay upright.. hi from Australia 🇦🇺
I wished u spent a few more days in Cappadocia it’s magical place where u encounter thousands of years of history just randomly in the streets especially in Uçhisar. There are caves carved out of tuff rocks like apartments, even like castles. There are good local wines. And many many fairy chimneys every you look and mysterious valleys… A comment on your observation about lack of women in social life as u go east is very very right. The reaction of the shepherd is very natural because of that exact fact u observed. They’re not just accustomed to an independent woman travelling solo and staying in tent in a random place. I wouldn’t even be comfortable as a man. I congratulate your courage but both of you please take care. I don’t think it will get any better in Iran being an religiously ruled state. You may have to wear head scarf and more conservative clothings there because of the Islamic law there (may not be applicable to tourists but not sure). Have a safe and pleasant journey. Southern and western coast of Turkey are much more enjoyable both in terms social life and scenery by the way…
What beautiful landscapes, what an incredible adventure... and what a contrast of cultures... I imagine that you really become introspective and reflective about the people along the way and what their lives are like. Thank you very much for sharing... Greetings from Brazil. ☺💯🏕🚲🙏
Someday day I will do this too (travelling the world by bicycle). This year I did my first solo bikepacking trip 2 weeks across Italy. But at first I need to save up a bit for a few years and can at least watch great videos lile this on YT
At the point where you talked about the man and the sheep, I thought about the book, "The Little Prince", and his adventures. Lots of parallels. "Yeah, we did not want to buy any sheep." "As if we're from two different planets." From the book, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
It's really exciting that you're coming all this way from Europe to Iran, my home country, I would be very glad to help you out if you need any information.

Southern and western coast of Turkey are much more enjoyable both in terms social life and scenery by the way…
A wonderful capture with lovely photography - so enjoyable !
You really need to get yourself a small titanium wood burner, works with sticks.
The first time I watched you and it was just beautiful and extremely touching the real life story you told.
Brilliant cultural education vidio, loving this adventure. You are very brave.
