I'm pretty sure TT changed Harley's appearance last minute because lego made their first official version of her to also be released in 2008 and it caught them off guard.
They say 80-85% of recorded footage from before 1950 is lost to time. There are millions of videogames out there, from the 1960s to today, and guaranteed some of those haven't been played, talked about or even seen in years if not decades. Unfortunately this is what happens when companies and people don't make an effort to preserve art, however there's always hope.
I played this game when i was a kid in my PS2. At the time I didn't had an memory card so I very rarely beat up an arch, only once I finished all 3 and that was the furthest i went. You're telling me things i didn't even knew were in the game
Someone get blameitonjorge to add this to a lost media vid in just a very short segment. Him making videos on things tend to really help with them getting found.
Bro I had this guide and was so confused about that bit with the fountain accessing the secret area in the bonus level, I thought it was a platform difference because I was playing the PS2 version and I never bothered to check later on. Crazy to think it was a beta thing.
Dude, I actually got this guide with the game as a kid and still have it to this day. Though I didn’t even realize it was a guide until I was much older, I only cared about the character bios. I was planning on actually using the guide to 100% the game(eventually… my backlog is massive) until now I didn’t even realize that there were any differences.
ive had that book (along with the indy and pretty much every lego game guide book) because my grandpa bought me and my brother a ps2 and all lego games with the books. its funny looking back at how many differences the images were compared to the original game. one I remembered was the toxic pit texture being random colors which i’m happy you brought up lol thanks for giving me a stroll down memory lane
I have a lot of Nostalgia for the Lego Games in particular and finding out that the Lego Batman game was going to be much different before release does have me interested, either be for slightly different levels to cut characters like Harvey Bullock which I didn't know he was a thing at all in Lego Batman 1, the first time I seen that guy in Lego form was DC Super Villains which was welcomed to see since he is quite a notable character in the Batman series that was introduced in TAS since he was one of the few cops that were introduced for world building which is what made the Batman TAS so awesome. Would've liked to have seen Montoya as well but I guess we can only get so much.
I had gotten the guide about a year ago and immediately picked up that something was different. I am very glad someone is taking an interest in the prototype of this game as it may be the largest Lego Batman iceberg known to exist.
Another interesting prototype is the Lego Indiana Jones 2, the green platform, the free game, Stanford Steven Spielberg Indy (Curator, Mechanics, director) in the level creator, Bazooka Trooper Last Crusade in all the chapters of the Crystal Skull, the BYOA chapter, the character icons, the "Custard" level, the IGN photographs (Blue Enemy Soldier in Cairo, Russian Soldier in Cafe Chaos), and several other things.
There's a early version of a Chapter 3 level in hero mode that you can play in The Complete Saga called Fairground_Entrance. Probably not too useful for this hunt, but it truly is fascinating to look at old development history like that.
I had that same guide as a kid and vividly remember being confused at some of the changes you pointed out, was especially baffled why they made those Wayne Manor maps so much more dreary in the final version.
My whole thing is retro and new videogame collecting and playing, and one thing I've seen MANY times in the medium is people finding prototypes or cancelled games remnants on dev kits. Dev kits are special models of a videogame console sent out to the developers of the console, so say TT Games would have received a PS3 dev kit for use in developing and testing Lego Batman 1 for the PS3. Typically, the files are deleted and the consoles are eventually sold, but on rare occasions the developers forget to remove their work. This has been responsible for finding many different cancelled games or prototypes of games over the years, probably the one I always think of was a cancelled prototype of a Castlevania game being made for the Sega Dreamcast. It could be possible, very slim but possible, that one of these dev kits floating around the used game market contains a beta copy of Lego Batman 1, used by TT Games during development that they just never removed. If not, I'm not sure where else you could find this prototype.
Best lead I can think of for the investigation is a RUclips channel called GameHut. It’s run by Tt Games/Traveler’s Tales founder Jon Burton. Though his last video is from a year ago, so IDK how easy it would be to contact him.
@@bd1pwhat did you do 😅. Unless you pissed off Jon Burton personally you’re probably fine. It’s actually run by Jon who hasn’t been connected with TT for some time now. Worth at least trying to reach out to him
On one of the first times me and my mother traveled to the UK when I was a kid I bought a lego book on the airport. The books that show the minifigures and lego sets. I remember reading this book when we sat on the train on our way away from the airport when someone sat down on our seat. The person had noticed my lego book. The person who sat down with us told us he worked at TT games and had worked on the prior lego games which at that time was the star wars games, Indiana Jones and Batman. I wish I could go back in time and speak more with this person. All the questions I have now that I have grown up
The figure change was probably because Lego introduced a Harley Quin Minifigure into sets that same year and they probably were told to change it to match.
I found that beta Harley Quinn thing interesting because I knew i had seen that render before, but I had never seen the newer one. There was only one place that I knew I could've seen it, and that was the lego batman visual dictionary from 2012. I only had the ds version of the first game and the visual dictionary came when the second game was released, so it's very odd for them to have the beta design in the book when it had been out for 4 years. Crazy stuff. I have such an odd memory

In the game files he's in the "HENCHMAN" folder, which is where every Goon is found. I think he's also in one of the Mr. Freeze or Arctic world levels on a poster
@@shadowshiftercomics so if he's a henchman could that mean he's like "clown goon" and "penguin minion" serving as an extra goon. i wonder if the riddler was supposed to have a third goon that could have been the yeti or something else
@@Inkthirsty I just checked the files again, he's classed as F_YETI, the only other two characters in the henchman folder to share the F_ prefix are the two female Freeze goons, he is in fact a Mr. Freeze Goon
I wonder how much unused content the original Jumping Flash has. I have been playing Lego Batman the Video game since its initial release in 2008. I got back into it again and I still have never 100% completed it. I also started playing Lego Indiana Jones in the summer of 2008 and I 100% that game in 2011. I played the Batman game a lot more because of that.
I wonder if the Lost version is secretly co-published by eidos interactive, just like lego star wars???? Both eidos and WB interactive entertainment made a deal to make games together.
I remember playing a demo version on a PS3 at a local electronics store in Germany which had Harley Quinn's old model with the red and black gloves and the different headpiece model.
