The Hunt for LEGO Batman's Lost Prototype

- LEGO Batman is regarded as one of the best LEGO Videogames to ever exist, but its development was overlapped with two other LEGO games, LEGO Star Wars and Indiana Jones. As a result, changes were being made up until release, and marketing for the game showed a much different version than what we got. This is the hunt for that prototype.

9:07, bit of a discrepancy. AI upscaling actually didn't work, users Chimichangar, MortalKombatMan and Aero01 were the ones who figured out what the text meant.
Also, credits to Average Enemy Enjoyer and JustNathan, the person who started The Hunt for Harvey Bullock and the person who made the google document respectively.
Editing my comment unpinned and unhearted it lmao 😭
Seeing people discover new things in a game from my childhood warms my heart
nightwing having black arms is also strange, also lol screenshots me swearing getting featured
Truly interesting... Also nice haircut btw

Crazy how something can be lost to time maybe never seen again. Props to the people who tried to find it. Also I love your mystery lego videos man
They say 80-85% of recorded footage from before 1950 is lost to time. There are millions of videogames out there, from the 1960s to today, and guaranteed some of those haven't been played, talked about or even seen in years if not decades. Unfortunately this is what happens when companies and people don't make an effort to preserve art, however there's always hope.

DANG, This surely was The Hunt for Lego Batman's Lost Prototype!
If this video gets popular enough, someone will see it and be like "oh yeah I got that version" and the search will end just like that
I didn’t know when Kyle Reese wasn’t fighting the Terminators he was making Lego Batman videos on youtube
I’m gonna go search for that book with the detective
Bro is truly handsome 😭 (anyways keep up those videos, we waiting for speedrun history videos 👀)
2:51 debug menu end level screen?
You should try to upload better scans of that book if you haven't already. Thanks for trying! :)
Ds2 is ded... goat lego game😢🚫🦇🐐
unrelated to the video, but for some reason i am convinced that the yeti is hidden in a level out of bounds or in an old build as a goon/boss
In the game files he's in the "HENCHMAN" folder, which is where every Goon is found. I think he's also in one of the Mr. Freeze or Arctic world levels on a poster
@@shadowshiftercomics so if he's a henchman could that mean he's like "clown goon" and "penguin minion" serving as an extra goon. i wonder if the riddler was supposed to have a third goon that could have been the yeti or something else
@@Inkthirsty I just checked the files again, he's classed as F_YETI, the only other two characters in the henchman folder to share the F_ prefix are the two female Freeze goons, he is in fact a Mr. Freeze Goon
I wonder if any other lego game guides have stuff like this
Someone get blameitonjorge to add this to a lost media vid in just a very short segment. Him making videos on things tend to really help with them getting found.
No.
I had that same guide as a kid and vividly remember being confused at some of the changes you pointed out, was especially baffled why they made those Wayne Manor maps so much more dreary in the final version.
TheGreenPuff!
who was gonna tell me this guy was hot
I had gotten the guide about a year ago and immediately picked up that something was different. I am very glad someone is taking an interest in the prototype of this game as it may be the largest Lego Batman iceberg known to exist.

You Actually Look Like Rodick From The Wimpy Kid Movie Trilogy
this is the year of found betas 😭😭😭😭 like really this year people found a early version of a game that never released 😭😭😭😭
Awesome video, would love a video just on the Harvey bullock search, especially if any developments are ever made
Ive never been so early.
Such a simple game and yet it's history is baffling
Let’s gooooo
I wonder how much unused content the original Jumping Flash has. I have been playing Lego Batman the Video game since its initial release in 2008. I got back into it again and I still have never 100% completed it. I also started playing Lego Indiana Jones in the summer of 2008 and I 100% that game in 2011. I played the Batman game a lot more because of that.
I'm excited to watch your new channel. I'm glad your doing something else then just lego stuff not saying I don't like the lego stuff
i played that exact demo so much as a kid. i always thought it was just a limited version of the full game which u unlock by buying the game
Delightful video to watch,I used this guide book a ton as a kid,and even more as an adult. Still have the poster too!
Really cool seeing this investigation. That Prima guide is something else lol
every copy of Lego Batman is personalized
Shame that last lead wasn't anything :( really well made video
Bd ftw
Hi guys
My whole thing is retro and new videogame collecting and playing, and one thing I've seen MANY times in the medium is people finding prototypes or cancelled games remnants on dev kits. Dev kits are special models of a videogame console sent out to the developers of the console, so say TT Games would have received a PS3 dev kit for use in developing and testing Lego Batman 1 for the PS3. Typically, the files are deleted and the consoles are eventually sold, but on rare occasions the developers forget to remove their work. This has been responsible for finding many different cancelled games or prototypes of games over the years, probably the one I always think of was a cancelled prototype of a Castlevania game being made for the Sega Dreamcast. It could be possible, very slim but possible, that one of these dev kits floating around the used game market contains a beta copy of Lego Batman 1, used by TT Games during development that they just never removed. If not, I'm not sure where else you could find this prototype.
Lego Batman brings back so much nostalgia also Robin is still borderline useless.
Magnet climb and the suction gun are literally coded in the game to only be used by him and Nightwing wdym useless? 😭
Played this game a lot on the Wii when I was a kid. Played it again about 2 years ago and still had a lot of fun, but the game has definitely aged very poorly compared to other lego games.
Very nice
I need to know what that footage is where its scrolling through characters and includes Jason Todd, Azrael, Huntress, Spoiler, etc...
I'm pretty sure TT changed Harley's appearance last minute because lego made their first official version of her to also be released in 2008 and it caught them off guard.
Great video!!! Camera just a tiny bit too close. But digging the chain, brother! A bd1p upload always makes my day!
reminds me of how insanely hyperfixated i've been on the lego star wars 1 prototype for the last 5 years
On one of the first times me and my mother traveled to the UK when I was a kid I bought a lego book on the airport.
The books that show the minifigures and lego sets.
I remember reading this book when we sat on the train on our way away from the airport when someone sat down on our seat. The person had noticed my lego book.
The person who sat down with us told us he worked at TT games and had worked on the prior lego games which at that time was the star wars games, Indiana Jones and Batman.
I wish I could go back in time and speak more with this person. All the questions I have now that I have grown up
I played this game when i was a kid in my PS2. At the time I didn't had an memory card so I very rarely beat up an arch, only once I finished all 3 and that was the furthest i went. You're telling me things i didn't even knew were in the game
idk why but that one random blurry picture with the AI upscaling reminds me of an old book i had on lego
Detective Harvey Bullock is like Luigi to Super Mario 64 in this game
The idea of more lego batman 1 is so cool i hope this video leads to more informations coming out
What do I type on the internet archive? That guide or whatnot looks so familiar
maybe the prototype was the friends we made along the way
I just downloaded it yesterday on steam for nostalgia sake
I'm hooked now, subbed to see where this journey leads.
damn bd1p gained drip
alright then, lets go

Fantastic vid as usual 😁😁😁
YEAH THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME!
Yippee
I dont say this to make u self conscious or anything but its genuinely distracting how much you shake your head while you talk to the camera lol
very interesting video though, i love ur channel been watching since like 14k subs
Best lead I can think of for the investigation is a RUclips channel called GameHut. It’s run by Tt Games/Traveler’s Tales founder Jon Burton. Though his last video is from a year ago, so IDK how easy it would be to contact him.
TT games is not too fond of me
@@bd1p How so?
earliest ive ever been to a bd1p upload
Love your videos, keep it man, you look different everytime you use facecam (in a good way lol)
Yo I picked up this guide at a con last year gonna have to check it out
