      They restrict them because it makes it harder to locate the shooter by reducing sound and muzzle flash. If you watch the Nashville shooting body cam they went door to door of each class room looking for the shooter until they heard more gun shots then they went straight to her location. I know suppressed shots are still loud but they wouldn’t have heard it as clearly in that specific situation. I don’t agree with the restrictions but I understand their argument.

    As a veteran, former Fed LEO, instructor and having used firearms for over 35 yrs…. Quality hearing protection is an absolute must ! Use a suppressor if you can. Despite using issued ear plugs and various makes of protectors, I have hearing loss. I wish I would have had access to suppressors from the beginning. Today I use a combination whenever I can. The suppressors should NOT be an NFA item. They should be promoted for use instead.

      multi cal cans are ok... but they arent good. if you want mediocre-poor performance on many guns and that doesnt bother you, great route to take. if you want the guns to sound good, you need a caliber specific can. if you have a .46" hole at the end of your silencer, its going to do a terrible job on a .22 caliber bullet.. which so happens to be the most popular AR caliber.
      you are MUCH better off with 3 silencers. a .22LR silencer, a .45 pistol silencer, and a .30 cal rifle silencer at minimum.

    Regarding flow through silencers another benefit to having less gas in your firearm action is you also get less gas in your face. Sig's hybrid flow through designs came from the Army requirement that the required suppressor part of the NGSW rifle not push any more gas to the shooter than the same rifle unsuppressed. The Army considers such gasses toxic and wanted to reduce soldier exposure to the lead and other chemicals typically present in such gasses. Even if it weren't toxic getting hot gas in the face while shooting tends to make your eyes tear up (most people would also visibly flinch) making it harder to see what you're doing. Both flinching and obscured vision are highly undesirable in combat.

    “Common use” for arms, according to the SCOTUS decision Caetano v Massachusetts is somewhere around 200,000 in use for lawful purposes. The problem is, and I could see the ATF making this argument is that suppressors are not banned they are simply “restricted.”

If the notes are for you and not the audience then why not center yourself in the shot, nice water and geese in the background and you can still use your notes just out of shot. I'm sure you have a reason but I think about I every time you mention your notes. Great videos, thank you!

    I can build a decibel meter myself for much less. The governing factor is a clock rate that is fast enough to catch the sound similar to a high speed camera. More samples per second. I could build a reliable decibel meter for maybe $300 max. Only because chips are pricey atm.

    As in, if I buy a 30cal suppressor, is it safe for 300 blackout, 300 win mag, 30-30, 30-06, 308, 7.62, etc?

    • @MoxJet629
      @MoxJet629 Год назад +1

      Yes for the most part. Anything the bore size or smaller. Some exceptions being not all cans are rated for all pressures or full auto. It might not be durable enough for 300 win mag or full auto 30-06. Also some silencers are not recommended for shorter barrels so check the manufacturers info.

    I find silencers a waste of time. I own 4, there are benifits if you want a lot of gas in your face or the end of the barrel to be heavy. The only time the cans i have seem to be effective is when you reduce the load, then you may as well use a 22 and i think they are quieter. To be fair my cans are all 1980s vintage. In my opinion its about supporting the atf and why do i have to wait after i already own 1 or more? I could understand the extensive background check for the 1st one but any after that?

    I have made many silencers for my weapons vz58 But the sound It remained high Only the sound of the sound wave generated by the explosion is cut off, meaning that you hear the sound of the bullet when it penetrates the air after it exits This means that the sound has become muffled, but it is not what is required, as I do with 9mm rifles. I only hear the parts of the weapon moving, but there is no sound of the explosion.

    As a 25 year old with likely permanent hearing damage please take care of your shit, you have no idea how much hearing damage affects you until it happens. I've had a lot of bullshit going on in my life the past few years and been stressed to the max (I'm not saying the stress is justified but it is what it is) so when I had new upstairs neighbors move in 3 years or so ago I started wearing headphones pretty much the entire time I was home because the neighbors were loud as hell and the complex did nothing no matter what me or my friend/roommate did, we moved out when the lease was up then I got a few month break at my new place and boom exact same thing happens so I basically have damage or at least Tinnitus from wearing headphones at high or max volume for around 2-3 years almost everyday.
    Then in late July I got really sick with really weird and severe cold and flu symptoms (not the c word) and decided not to go to the doctor for several days until 2am one night when what had been fairly bad head pain for a couple days turned into severe ear pain and loss of hearing in my left ear, the ER doctor said it was a ruptured eardrum and gave me a painkiller so strong he didn't want to give it to me because he didn't think I would be safe drive and in reality it barely took the edge off the pain and I had to go back the next day for more and he wouldn't even prescribe me more of those and instead gave me codeine and tylenol tabs that I had to take more than 3 times the daily dosage he prescribed me along with advil and more tylenol just to sleep. My ear actually hadn't fully ruptured yet until an hour or so after I got back to the hotel and then it burst with bloody watery fluid and continued to drain CONSTANTLY like the the point I had to keep cotton or toilet paper in my ear 24/7 for weeks otherwise it would start dripping on my shoulder after a few minutes. The entire time from right before it burst to as I am typing this right now I've had severe Tinnitus so the point its definitely effecting my sleep and that effect hasn't decreased much. I also had severe intermittent dizziness, eye, and balance issues where I would think I was good to drive then randomly have to pull over and it was in full force for well over a month and pretty much all of those still exist to an extent now 3 months later but they happen less often with less severity. Also the tinnitus and hearing loss seemed to also happen to my right ear even though it was my left that burst.
    I would say I probably still only have around 30% functional hearing in that ear but its hard to say because the ringing is so loud in my left ear that it sort of overrides my right ear so even if someone is talking on my right side I will still have a hard time hearing them if its in a remotely loud environment, its just crazy so just protect yourselves

      What kinda gun fight you talking about ? Combat on a battlefield? Don't think it would matter much for typical self/home defense. If anything the noise might work to your advantage. People hear gunshots the cops come fast. Which if you're the victim you would want.
      I've fired a gun one time in self defense. A 9mm handgun. A vicious Rottwieler was attacking me and my 8 month old was in a chest Carrier I was wearing while on a walk.
      My son didn't even wake up from his nap. And i didn't even notice the noise at all there was so much adrenaline. Auditory exclusion is a real thing.
