Honestly thanks so much! My singing role model is connor mason. And ive always been trying to sound as close to him as possible. this always left tension in my throat and made my voice break. Now ive started singing like myself and im actually able to sing some of his songs without breaking or straining and while i dont have his voice, i have MY voice and thats all i need! so thanks!
its just that whenever i sing somebody's song i end up trying to make it sound like their voice even though i try to use my voice its just like every different song sounds like im singing like that person i dont know what to do.
Learn a song you've never heard anyone sing before. Like a folk song, or a church hymn or any thing else you've heard but not by an artist that you want to sound like.
I cannot even explain what this started to do to me it was amazing I felt relaxed my singing voice was so much better the bubble in my throat went away and I no longer feel like I have to sound like the person singing the song
I would my singing voice isn’t to high but isn’t that low, but when I’m scared or nervous it goes higher. When I’m forcing it to be like others or be what others want, it’s lower. When I’m comfortable sing in the middle, but I knew that wasn’t my real voice so thank you.
This video is about how to find your natural singing voice. I received this question from Sanskriti, a subscriber to Power To Sing. She asked: “Can you please just answer one question for me. How do I discover the best voice for me that connects with the people?”
Inside this video I’ll give you one easy exercise to reveal your natural singing voice...that honest and natural sound that really connects with everyone that hears you!
I'm struggling to find the right instruction for my issue. I used to be able to sing a very wide range but now my voice cuts out at D3 and doesn't really come back until I get to C4 without falsetto. Do you have any tips to bring that back? I've lost where I'd naturally sing.
Did a search, found a lot of videos. But yours was the best explanation out of all of them. Thankyou for putting together a simple, straight forward, to the point video. Very well done and very beneficial to those needing your advice. Two thumbs up!
It's called the key of "A". Like every song ever recorded. I used to warm up my voice by strumming the "A" string on the guitar and matching my voice to it. Only sing within your natural range. No bridging. Only chest (diaphragm), voice. That's rock 'n roll.
Important to remember, though, too much chest and no mix or head voice, gets you into trouble. Like so many of the pros who've developed nodules, or hemorrhaged.
I loved this exercise. Music has always been a big part of my life but I've always thought of myself as a terrible singer, I can keep a tune but I can feel I'm straining, have no power and have avoided singing so that I don't hurt myself. I started watching your videos because I want to learn how to do it right, just for myself so I can make music while my hands are busy, without hurting my voice. I played clarinet for years when I was younger so I feel like I can control my breathing well but during this exercise was the first time I noticed I do something when I sing, and I have no idea if it is right or not. When blowing a wind instrument I've learned to shut the back of my nose so that all the air goes out my mouth into the instrument. I don't do this when I'm talking but during this exercise I caught myself doing it while singing. I'm assuming maybe this is not an ideal thing for a good natural singing voice! Should I try to avoid this habit? The other thing I discovered is that I've been talking "too low", I'm female and I've never been able to project my voice well while speaking. I found from my normal speaking voice I could only go down one or two notes before my tone went bad. If I try talking at the note 4 or 5 up from the bottom, it feels like I'm putting on a fake high voice! I know everyone is different, and I have enjoyed finding out these things about myself on my journey to a better singing voice.
Yes...avoid adding anything to your voice when you start to sing. Too often it is adding unwanted tension to your voice. On the speaking voice, try speaking at 3-4 steps above your lowest singing note. See if that's easier. Thanks fossphur!
Thank you so much. Just an old man here wanted to learn how to sing. I do really appreciate your lessons. my voice is not as good as I would like to, but I'll keep trying. Greetings from Oregon.
It is true I normally struggle to raise my voice higher than my vocal range to sound better or match the key of chord progressions I choose on guitar but I find myself losing the rhythm, the rhythm of my voice going opposite to the guitar rhythm but if I try to sound natural according to my voice it some how works, though I have not yet met the real determinant vocal range where to base myself every time I start to singing.
Thankyou so much sir.. I always wanted to sing like me but I didn't had someone to guide me or tell me what to do.. This worked for me and I still can't believe that I'm singing like myself 😂✨️ Sending love from India 🙏🙏
I did this another way. I was learning piano & was advised to sing out the melody I was learning...after a while by repetition i found matching my voice to the the tune became easier & my voice became centred i always hit the notes full square< as it followed the piano tone. by repetition , I had internalised the the tune & found its reproduction easy. I found that this centered technique was not restricted to the melody I was learning but would work for many melodies including the high notes, which I was no longer straining on. Im not saying I now have three octave vocal range but I sound much better & that increases confidence with new songs. Im not sure this will work for everyone, but after many years of struggle this technique came easily & naturally& cost nothing as i was learning to play that melody anyway!
@@PowerToSing Yeah I think it has something to do with the way I-ve been able to replicate sounds since childhood. I now seem to be able to do it with the piano. Hi Zach: How old are you? When you are relaxed and not anxious, during that 10%, this is more likely the ideal time and vocal condition to find your natural singing voice.
My voice does feel more open, how ever I have a have a high voice that’s kind of nasally raspy. Sometimes, it feels like a blanket gets tossed over something in the middle of my neck when I’m trying to sing clearly and to me it sounds better, but I don’t think its supposed to be that way.

You're welcome!
I just found you… When I sing as you say what’s comfortable close to my talking voice, my voice sounds undeveloped in this area, not so much in my head voice. Like the person you commented on in this video, I just want to find my real, authentic voice… My own genuine sound. I have my own music and style, but for so long I’ve been singing soft, I really want to be free when singing… I would like to find songs that match my voice... as far as singing, I haven’t sang in 17 years. I want strength in my vocals.
I would definitely start by discovering your vocal type here: www.powertosing.com/discover-your-vocal-type-wt/
Is it useful for Eastern music, for like indian classical music?
Yes, but in many instances, singers of all genres must correct the way they are vocalizing. If they don't, they end up damaging their voices.
I have two natural speaking voices at two different ranges. Plus I have anxiety so whenever I talk it's 90% of the time stressed. What do I do to find my natural singing voice? This method is great but I'm still struggling to find my voice as I don't know if this is my singing voice or not.
Hi Zach: How old are you? When you are relaxed and not anxious, during that 10%, this is more likely the ideal time and vocal condition to find your natural singing voice.
Is it ok to practice while lying down
Sure! Also, remember, we tend to sing like we practice. :)
My voice does feel more open, how ever I have a have a high voice that’s kind of nasally raspy. Sometimes, it feels like a blanket gets tossed over something in the middle of my neck when I’m trying to sing clearly and to me it sounds better, but I don’t think its supposed to be that way.
Interesting.
My voice is so bassy how yo hit the high notes and how to transit the voice
