LOVE this. I've played original RE game so many times and watched the live action intro so many times because it's still so unique and I actually don't think I have seen the full unedited version such as when Joseph first encounters the zombie dogs and shoots his shotgun to try and defend himself and the angles of him being attacked from various sides. FYI, some of the original actors from the live-action intro were recently contacted by ROE, Residence of Evil RUclips channel about year and a half ago or so. They got hold of the actors who played Chris Redfield aka Charlie Kraslavsky, Barry Burton aka Greg Smith and Albert Wesker aka Eric Pirius and did a reunion video, a few videos, actually. It was so awesome and surreal. 🥰 Charlie (Chris Redfield) actually ended up doing some fan-fic movies with them, too.
That openining was more scarier than any CGI bullshit, real people is more scary than stupid ass 3D models.

OMG! This HD mod looks insane! I started playing RE Director's Cut a few months back on my PS5, the very low resolution visuals on a modern TV were not doing justice to how the game looked on a CRT. With this mod I'd be very happy to explore the game again. Awesome work!

The best thing about the first resident evil is they used real actors. In the games after that all the characters are CGI. Also not as much blood and violence in the first game.

Insane to think Rebecca, and Jill were highschoolers then and would be in their mid to late 40s by now. I think Chris was the only "adult" of the core characters and would be in his early 50s by now.
Love what TeamX did with the video files. They look so clean and fluid compared to the awful grainy 10 FPS versions. I really need to play this classic again.
This looks good. Even though Wesker looks like what you'd get if Duke Nukem and Billy Idol had a baby, and Rebecca Chambers looks like Paris Hilton if she had red hair and was somehow capable of dialing back the skank in her... well... everything. The music made for the intro sounds like it really would have rather been in Mortal Kombat instead of Resident Evil, but I honestly kind of like that about it lol.
The live Action Chris really looks like a young Dan Aykroyd to me too lol

WOW this deserve be the official version remaster of the game. It can't look bettter now. I hope Resident Evil 2 got the same treatment.
The HD versions of 2 and 3 are already out, via Dolphin emulator. I would say still buy it on GOG to support them for taking time to port this to modern PC's, but the most ideal way to play these is with the rebirth HD textures for Re1,2,3.

Some of the real old resident evil in my opinion where a lot fun to play and easy unlike a lot of the newer ones with all the detail WHATEVER. I like to have fun without all the stress thay put into the newer games.

I just got the latest version and watched a guide on how to do it for the non gog version. All it needs is to be the Japanese version since that's what the mod is made for

While i love this type of projects, those AI upscaled pre-rendered backgrounds just look horrible. It really ruins the game for me. So blocky, plastic and colorful for this game. You can clearly notice the melting from the upscaling.
You didn't have the privilege of playing this game in the mix 90s clearly
I think they are more so pointing out the fact that the AI upscaling just isn't up to snuff, at least when compared to RE2 and especially RE3 Seamless HD restorations. Playing these games as they were intended back in the 1990s was fine (at low resolutions on a CRT monitor/TV) as older Televsion's display did a good job hiding the more aliased backgrounds. Displaying those same 240p backgrounds on an 1080p makes those backgrounds look pretty rough, especially when contrasted with the 3D character models that do upscale properly, making it very obvious that they are roaming around in front of JPEGS.
Hence why (although not totally necessary) these seamless HD projects exist. Unfortunately, probably because the background assests were so low res for this game, whatever upscaling AI they used here did a pretty poor job, and you can see how it's doing a lot of guess work, which is why some parts of the background look so warped.
Lol This is why I play the PS1 version with a good CRT shader and with some texture filter for 3d, looks way better as a whole
I was expecting to feel that way, but they look great to me. The original backgrounds were so, so pixilated and these cleaned those up great while staying faithful.

IMO people need to stop complaining about these GOG rereleases "only being the original versions with minor qol improvements".
These same people moan about a lack of preservation in videogames. GOG has made the original versions easily available, updated to run on modern OS with modern gamepad support, and no DRM.
IMO that is as good as preservation gets. The seamless HD mods for RE2 and 3 will be ported to the GOG versions within days anyway, just like this one has, and was never an official product anyway.
Heard that it's actually worse than the original since the FMV and CGI run like shit in this GOG version.
I don't know if they fixed.
@TheMrCHELL the prerendered cutscenes ran that bad on the original pc release, too. You basically need the rebirth mod installed to make those somewhat viewable if not playing with the seamless HD mod

You might wanna try going back one more decade to the 80's. There's even a song about it from a one hit wonder artist named Corey Hart. It may have stuck around for a little while into the early 90's, but the early 90's was really just overtime for the 80's anyway.
I see you said game lol..... I didn't see that at first and thought thought you meant irl, but even so. my assessment is still probably correct. The NES has a massive library and even if you shaved off the titles for it that came out in the 90's you've still got a solid 6 years worth of games where that's most likely depicted in one way or another at least once, but probably more than that lol.

The GOG trilogy doesnt have any HD features, i downloaded it and the textures are the same as the original, doesnt have any nods attached to it...
of course it doesnt. you have to install the mod yourself

@@paulo6456 the mod has guides on the website where it is downloaded. the only difference you need to know with the GOG version is you need to download the japanese version from GOG galaxy by just changing the language to japanese under manage installation and configure

Same as installing it to the regular version. The only thing you need to do is install the Japanese version of the game from gog

I completely agree. To me, all of these seamless HD upscales make the games appear even less realistic. Everything looks plastic.
There is some truth to that. The blurry nature of old video games did leave a lot to the imagination while the clean nature of HD takes that away.

Simple, as with every old RE title: Pre-rendered backgrounds, 16:9 means they will be horribly stretched or stuff cut out.
Very poor scaling with the backgrounds and 3d models. The best way to play this is to run it at 1280x960 since all the assets from the HD mod are that way
Original PSX's resolution with crt shader on Retroarch is the only best way to play this.
