in caseyou didn't know, hhgregg was more of a tech store than a "thhingings" store
yup. They were just like circuit city. Meaning, they existed a while, then they went out of business.
A "Tetechechs" store, you mean?
I'd consider them more of a home appliance store. They sold televisions, sound systems, couches, chairs, refridgerators, etc. Nothing all that techy and certainly no computers or game systems. Fun fact: Management and members of corporate were convinced that by playing progressive rock music in the store they could tap into the gen x and boomer market and that said clientel would be more likely to spend more money for the same goods if they were listening to Kansas. The playlist was 20 minutes long almost exactly, because by the time the playlist looped around you were supposed to be done helping any given customer with all needs or have handed the customer off to another associate. This was how management determined when sales staff were "slacking" and they were routinely written up for going over. Also, the management will fire employees a week to the day after someone reports a member of upper management of sexual harrassment. The only way to do this was to go through the store manager. This happened 4 times in my 3 month tenure. And my favorite, their strategy for opening a new store was to mass hire, work the employees to death, and then fire 1/2 of the staff. No-one was told this ahead of time during the hiring process or training and it all happens within the same day 1 at a time so it blind sides everyone. Fantastic business.
