    As someone who has no rated levels but loves creating this video is so real. I love creating but I'm really not that good at all. Instead of being mad and jealous of people who are successful, I get inspired by them, learn things from them, and wanna be like them. These hate comments really trigger me because no one who puts time and effort into making good levels deserve it.

    A very relatable video I must admit.
    I remember when I got my second rate and there was a lot of hate in the comments. I asked in the comments what exactly was wrong with the level, but I got disliked and I was told never to build anything again.
    After my first epic level, I was very motivated to build more, but I wanted to do something very simple this time. After this level got a feature, people said that I wasn't trying, that I made a boring level.
    When 2.2 came out, hope and motivation returned a bit and I tried making a platform level. I really liked it and was proud of it, but my expectations were greatly disappointed because it didn't get what I wanted, and people in the comments immediately started insulting my level and me.
    Now, I don't really know what I'm doing and how to do it. I'm trying to muster the motivation to do anything.
    Wish me luck.

      I would like to know what your levels are to play them, although the platform level if it has a rate I would probably already complete it.
      But that's it, just pay attention to the negative and positive reviews and ignore the comments like "don't create again"

    You totally forgot a very important point: Branding.
    When you make a lot of levels in a certsin style, they will look so similar that the players will easily recognize you for your creating style, you can also see split and dubstep as examples of this.
    The problem lies when people try to force you to make something original when you start doing the same style, but when you do your own recognizable style and make a LOT of levels using it, the same people that begged for you to make something original will hate on you for creating the same thing over and over again.
    Its so frustrating to see comments like that when creators have their OWN style and therefore they have the right to milk whatever they want. I saw it on split, then croco, then yun, and the list goes on and on.
    And also, that "mod bias" and people complaining about unknown creators getting harder standards is pure bs. My rated level has decorations that are copied 1-1 from youtune tutorials. Yes, almost all of the deco, bg and air deco was made from tutorials, but i still got a rate, even when a mod sent it for feature hours before. So yeah, that is pretty much debunked since forever.
    Well, here goes my wall text. Great video btw!!!

    I've always hated how a lot of these players that do this assume amount of quality = amount of effort. Seriously people need to stop crapping on levels that aren't literally perfect to them. It often isn't people that have created at all, they are just spoilt royally (never having a reality check).
    Will also say that this jealousy people are having is probably gonna get worse, since rated levels are constantly getting more rare to achieve and therefore more artificially valued. I gotta be honest, it was a terrible idea to lock an achievement behind it. I imagine this would have been way less of a problem (by a ton). It's not just young people that get jealous enough to do this, it's just "Most of the GD community + valued thing = people jealous for that thing"
    Granted Rob could let elder mods help as well (with rates, since I assume he trusts them enough) to lower the value of a rate and therefore the jealousy. Rob could also make some sort of disclaimer regarding hate comments BUT that could cause it to become worse if people take it the wrong way. It's not the best situation but what is? Doubt it'll ever get better naturally, it's practically ruining itself.

  • @FACEB0OK_GD
    @FACEB0OK_GD Месяц назад +11

    I see this situation the same way, people think of creators as people who just create for creator points and know it will get rated cuz rob knows them more, but it's not true, they create because it's actually really fun, if they had no reason to, their levels would simply not look good because they have no reason to create other than the thought of creator points in mind, the 4 levels I have made were all for fun and I enjoyed making them so much, even if none of my levels I ever post get rated, I'm just happy because it was a way of expressing my self and I had and will have a lot of fun creating.

    Dude, I completely agree. I dont make levels too much, but I love creating. It infuriates me so much seeing people hating levels for seemingly no reason when the creators are just trying to enjoy the game. The negativity that people spread to some creators is so unnecessary. We are all trying to enjoy the game in our own way so there is no need for those people to feel hate or jealousy towards them. Creators put time into their levels and it's a shame people ignore their efforts and spread hate towards them. We should all focus on the quality of the level and not how much creator points they have. Great video, Ausk I really enjoyed it.

    Seeing Bridget make really cool levels like “Fun Shapes” and “bStep” in such a short amount of time is part of what got me back into creating. It made me wonder if I could possibly make a rate worthy level within the span of a month or maybe even a week. The levels I ended up making took WAY longer than that, but that didn’t really matter since I was now able to finish levels for the first time since 2.0.
    What Bridget was able to do in her time creating for this game is genuinely so impressive, and it was so weird seeing people hating on her for it instead of being inspired.

    Not to be the hater, but I don't have a problem with simple levels getting rated. I have a problem with buggy and unoptimized pieces of trash that are poorly built, janky, have hz issues, gameplay that only works half the time, all for it to get rated 3 fewer stars than it should. As a stargrinder, I want rated levels to be based on decoration and gameplay. Just because a level is pretty doesn't mean it's rate worthy.
    Just a month ago I played an 7 star after it was rated and there was a LITERAL SECRET WAY within the first 20%. It's clear that unplaytested levels are being sent when if the mods just read the comments and saw over 50 people saying "secret way" they'd know something was up.

  • @Rytsarckly
    @Rytsarckly Месяц назад +1

    As I do understand your point of view, it's also important to aknowlege that not all people who writes those types of comments are jealous. Sometimes, it's just the fact that level qualities are disintegrating, not only in deco, but also in terms of gameplay. Some levels are filled with untested parts and questionable gameplay, even transitions, that comments saying that it's bad are factually right. The way that it could be expressed may be rude depending on the comments, but not all of them are.
    It totally agree that creators are allowed to create what they want, but if a levels is low effort in terms of GP and deco and expect at least a rating, then they should expect those types of comments in which, a lot of them are being factual. Death threats or direct bullying, those are a big no and should be those types of comments that should be focused instead, but comments commenting on how bad the gameplay, deco, transitions, etc. shouldn't be deemed as people being jealous, envious, etc. If the creator really doesn't want those types of comments, then RobTop should add in a future update a way to enable/disable comments, similar to how a lot of media platforms have.

      If you're doing levels solely for a desired rating or praise this is gonna be your thought process. Unless you learn to build for fun you will not succeed at it and will keep comparing yourself like you did in this comment. To answer your question on why to make a great level: to have enjoyment in the process and be proud of the result. And if it's great enough, it could even get the extra cool rating :)

    • @TerraBlo
      @TerraBlo Месяц назад +3

      @auskgd I mean sure, creating for the enjoyment but we all know how much of a task it can be to make a full level with effort ...
      No matter how much you enjoy creating its still kind of a chore to decorate and put the effects and everything in just to see another guy "cp grinding" doing really low effort to get the same result as you its just not fair man
      That's why you can't compare cp grinding and stargrinding, all stargrinders put the same effort to beating a 5* with the same result but no 2 creators put the same effort to making a level just to get the same result

    • @auskgd
      @auskgd  Месяц назад +8

      I get what you're saying, but this proves the point I made in the video. Your frustration with the rating system or with the lack of rates you get is based on someone else getting rates easily - and this frustration should not be taken out on Split or any creator whatsoever. It does not make any sense to throw shade on someone just because they get something you want with less effort. Also, you are incorrect about everyone putting the same effort to beat a 5*. Just like for creators, when you are a more experienced player you can easily beat a 5* level with 1 single attempt. For newer players, it takes a lot more. Should the newer players hate the more experienced ones just because they get what they want more easily? No. Likewise, creators should try and work on - as i mentioned in the video - improving "what they can" improve regarding rates - as in putting the effort to get sends and feedback from moderators. We all went through this. We also know the rate system can be quite luck based when you're starting out, and I've been there, but eventually anyone can do it if they keep trying. Practically no one gets their first rates quickly. My first few rates took months each, and I had many levels in between, which never got rated.

    • @Kingsman265
      @Kingsman265 Месяц назад +6

      @@auskgd True it's not the creator's fault they're simply adhering to the system given to them. It's Robtop's fault for blindly waving the rights of any other newer creator discouraging them from creating by having no system to reward their creations. This is why we see so many people who are just "farming creator points". It just takes away the fun in general of creating if someone who has already been creating has those connections to a mod and can just send the level to them. This brings in the issue of the inherent bias from sends. Regardless of who's creating, the levels should be equally managed... but they aren't, and a rate all stems from how Robtop feels that day, or whether he even gets on and rates. It doesn't have to be this way and there are much better examples of better systems, like in OSU, and I'm sure Rob is aware of this. The only reason he hasn't changed the system is so he can still claim to be "a part of the community". But soon he is going to have to face reality, and that reality is one person simply cannot adhere to the desires of 20,000-plus people. Which will force him to make a change. Either he's going to have to give away some of his power and allow elder mods to rate as well because at this point a send is useless unless you have creator points, or he'll have to create a new system.

    • @TerraBlo
      @TerraBlo Месяц назад +3

      I completely agree, you should improve on what you can do its basically a no brainer, and sure stargrinding is different between newer and more experienced players I kinda forgot about that since 5* have gotten so easy for me :p
      Also I don't think that you should hate anyone, not split or any other creator but you can't lie about how frustrating it is to see some really low effort level get the same treatment as yours that you need to talk about it,,
      There are some (honestly stupid) factors that come into play when getting a rate like having to have already made some levels beforehand so you become recognised (ik this is not the case sometimes but it is a lot of the time) or the rng factor like when the level was sent, how many sends came after the level, does robtop feel like it,,, bla bla bla all of which you have 0 control of,,, but most of the time the cp grinders don't have to go follow these rules
      I just think that if a level looks good enough it should get rated, not by how popular or lucky you are

    this is so true and I've felt this way for years but nobody ever seemed to recognize this huge problem until today, levels don't need to look or play amazing to mean someone spent their time to make something without anything in return except other peoples enjoyment, being negative and hateful can ultimately lead to demotivation. I'm not saying you have to like every level you play and there are some levels I'm not the biggest fan of but I don't spam people with hate over something they spent time on. when playing levels people seem to act like their words have no influence on people's opinions and I'm not saying we will ever be able to get rid of hate entirely but the amount of hate on some levels by people who creator point grind is dumb. This is also a huge problem in gauntlets despite not liking a level you don't have to act like it was the best level ever made just don't be a total jerk. another issue is lots of the time people look past the good things of a level and just focus on the bad things, comments should not be just hate ever and here's what I mean, when commenting at least say one good thing about a level so the creator doesn't feel too bad and also if you're gonna state something that should be improved describe why and be nice about it, what I mean is try to avoid saying things like "bad gameplay" or "boring decoration" instead say something like "Deco is very cool and the song choice is great, the gameplay is fun but felt unbalanced to me mostly at the ship parts, overall still a good level" so they don't feel bad on what they spent their hard work on and know what can be improved. a creator nobody talks about is ChaSe who gets a lot of hate for his gauntlet levels mainly the gameplay, I don't understand why people hate the gameplay but I always find the ChaSe levels to be really fun and just a pleasure to play, I'm not saying you have to agree with me however try to be nice to the poor guy who spends MONTHS on levels just to get an unreasonable amount of hate. you can address problems in comments while still saying what's good about the level and being nice instead of saying the creator sucks. overall I'm just tired of seeing all the hate of people being awful to other creators and this will never 100% stop but I'm hoping the hate towards creators becomes less as time passes.
    this is so long lol.

    As an unnoticed creator I could understand that people don’t like low effort levels. Not everything that is high quality is high effort. As someone who can create realistic stuff i don’t put high effort inside of it unless im learning. So people don’t understand what is high effort or low effort for each creator. A average glow level does require effort. A average modern level doesn’t require much effort if you’re good with art and animations. But it’s hard and people put effort. I only been playing for 2 or 3 years and I understand what levels are considered low or high effort is for a creator on their own level. Compared to a player.

    one thing I wanna bring up in addition to the video is folks need to also have more *constructive* criticism for levels, maybe politely explaining certain flaws with the creator’s approach and how to fix/improve them, instead of blaming the creator for a rating that isn’t determined by them! just as important as making sure you aren’t jealous of other people’s success!

    I got an epic rated level six months ago and spent over 100 hours building it. The top comment was thankfully a constructive criticism comment, but most of the other top comments were hate comments such as “Why do people make such bad gameplay.” Kinda unfortunate that people were only focusing on the unsightreadable gameplay rather than appreciating the level for my talent in art.

    You have good points but personally I don't mind what the creators make I think its amazing that they enjoy making them my issue is normally that the standards for big creators seem to be dropped as amazing levels from unknown creators that robtop sees wont get rated but a level from yunhaseu14 would get rated although being of much lower quality. I just feel that a lot of people are frustrated by their hard work being put to higher standards. Not condoning the people just giving unwarranted hate or saying that the big creators don't deserve their levels rated I just think there is a disparity in the standards that frustrate smaller creators.

    Not to hate at all (we're all allowed to have our own respective opinions) for me personally I just don't like the fact these low effort levels get rated, it kinda puts smaller creators into a weird gap where they will most likely not get their stuff recognised for being not detailed enough, where these big creators (like split72) get their levels mass sent and most likely rated just because they're a known creator. From a gameplay standpoint I personally feel demotivated to play the game when I see less and less people put in effort to their work since it becomes a part of seeing a number go up (cp) instead of making something enjoyable for others. However at the end of the day people are allowed to make what they find fun, it's just my personal view on it.

    The people who don’t like cp grinding aren’t true creators themselves. Heck, people that just say “bad terrible delete this” and stuff like that, they’re DEFINITELY not true creators. True creators at least attempt to take 30 seconds to point out some flaws (or they don’t point out flaws for the sake of being nice), even if they don’t have time to come up with ideas.

    Honestly, I've had the same feeling of jealousy when playing levels, but I don't go out of my way to make hate comments just because they got rated. Just keep it inside and move on. Sometimes, I do have to make criticism, but I also make it constructive because I get it when I receive plain old hate comments. It sucks and it makes the creating process more longer than it should've been, maybe even stopping it all together. Constructive criticism is goated, underrated, and actually helpful for creators.

    thanks for making this video, it made me reflect on my behaviour in regarding gd level creation, i was being really hateful at levels not realizing how harsh i was actually being. i will no longer be hating on levels because they're "bad", instead i will either suggest some improvements or just not say anything and leave.
    i am also realizing that if something i make isnt of amazing quality then it stays in the drafts, which is reduces my enjoyment of creating. don't get wrong i still like creating and all, but often times i dont really like what im creating. those are issues i have to solve with myself, but thank you for making me reconsider.
    one issue i have is that at the intro you deadnamed bridget, and i think you should've re-recorded the intro, it wouldn't have taken that long i assume, right? i adknowledge that you put a text correcting yourself, but at that point why not rerecord?
    i'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume you couldn't rerecord because... well shit happens, lack of time or other things, however i would've still muted the audio where you deadnamed her.

      Thank you for commenting! I'm really glad the video made you change your mind about this. Regarding the username thing I was used to calling Bridget as Braden cause I've known them for a while (not in a personal level, just as knowing them as another creator) and after the username change I just didn't keep up. Once it was pointed out I added the text in the editing to correct it. I actually didn't (and still don't exactly) know what deadnaming is until a friend pointed it out to me during the editing process since English isn't my main language. It was just an honest username mix since I hadn't kept up with it. Also I should probably mention that although it looks like I'm looking at their profile while I say the username, the voice recording and video footage were recorded separately, so I didn't have any visual reference to remember there was a new username. Sorry for the confusion!

    I think the problem lies in how many of these "generic star grinder" levels exist in the game.
    As a person who enjoys playing levels, I look for uniqueness in levels and mostly these kinds of levels are found in with creators, who put weeks months or years into their works. So if I go into the feature tab in search for fun levels, I wont go and play for example a Split level, because I know I wont be satisfied with his style. This is fine, because I know the style and genre Split is going for. So I can avoid those levels. The problem is when less known publish those levels. I play them without knowing what I'm going into and will be bored by the looks and have a bad experience.
    So I think the problem lies in the dislike in the genre of levels most cp grinders promote in most of their levels. So I think, which could fix this, is a information of the genre on the level. This way people can choose if they want to play a genrric, modern, core or something entirely else like a experimental level.

    • @auskgd
      @auskgd  Месяц назад +3

This type of comments is only made by 11 year olds seeking attention through trying to get buzz, whether its bad or good. This hate movement will go by waves, sometimes (like right now) very present, sometimes less, especially since very high quality levels are now published, but it will never stop (and i'd say will tend to increase).

You can usually kinda tell when someone is 11 in comments, and for the majority, these comments are not made by 11-year-olds. 4:05 yeah... Its safe to assume that people will criticize a more unpolished product with less time put into it than a level where the creator put a lot of time and effort into perfecting the decoration and experience. Sure, the extremely brutal and unhelpful hate comments are not ok, but isnt this a common sense cause and effect situation?
    If you are having fun making a level as fast as possible, instead of making the experience fun and polished for everyone, some people arent going to like it.
    Split72 for example has had a lot of praise for gameplay, because they either improved or polished the experience. Most of the time from what ive seen, Split72 levels are criticized on the decoration instead of the gameplay. Theres a valid reason for it, but again, hateful comments or harmful feedback arent the answer either.

    Often in my case as a star grinder there's levels made by well known creators who makes bad gameplay in some levels and most of the time it isn't playtested, not to mention it kinda ruins my experience at times grinding but I don't go in the comments and spread hate unless I have something good to say, regardless if you're a creator for years you know better than just overly decorate a level for a rate while it has bad gameplay or the layout wasn't thought through. I don't jealous anyone but I'm very bad at decorating and I'm very good at making well balanced and fun gameplay (also well playtested to find bugs or errors). That being said I would like to see creators improving on the gameplay aspect of creating levels

Like yeah a high deco level can look really good if done right, but low deco levels are often still good as well, and lower deco can actually be better for the gameplay since too much deco can either be distracting or make it hard too see the gameplay.

    I'll admit it. I'm jealous of Lifecheck, but I'm still one of his biggest fans. In fact, I support all of his creations and we chat quite a bit on Discord.
    Edit: I'm a music creator, so I know where you're coming from.
