  • Welcome to episode 1 of the Deep Dive Analysis series, where I, Zarin, your literature-obsessed fangirl will be analysing Rupi Kaur's poem 'To Fathers with Daughters'. Kaur's writing is very refreshing to engage with, especially from the perspective of a South Asian reader, as she deals with topical, yet often 'swept under the surface' topics, which, in this case, are father-daughter relationships.
In'sha'Allah I hope this video is of benefit for those who are interested in literature. I pray that it expands your mindset to consider the use of enjambment and fragmented lines in a poem. More importantly, however, I pray that by reading this poem, a legion of writers are inspired to continue creating generational change with their words.
    Outline:
    1) Why I chose the poem
    2) Language analysis
    3) Structural analysis
    4) Drawing analysis
    5) Debate: Who is to blame for the choices a daughter makes when she is a woman?
    6) Plenary
