    Spider-Man beanie adjustments!
Some people have been commenting and saying their beanies turned out smaller than mine did. I’m here to offer you a few suggestions!
    1. It could be your yarn. Thinner yarns will make the hat smaller. You can use a thicker yarn and see if it fixes the gauge issue.
    2. Check your tension! Crocheting too tight or too loose can also affect the size.
    3. If you want to make your hat bigger, add a one or two extra rounds of increases. I will post the modified pattern below.
    (Normal) Round 8: (hdc 6, 2hdc) around. (64)
    (New) Round 9: (hdc 7, 2hdc) around. (72)
Rounds 10-19 (or more if you want it longer): HDC in each stitch around. (72).
    New Ear flap instructions:
    Left Ear flap:
    1. hdc 18, ch 1, turn. (18)
    2. hdc dec, hdc 14, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (16)
    3. hdc dec, hdc 12, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (14)
    4. hdc dec, hdc 10, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (12)
    5. hdc dec, hdc 8, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (10)
    6. hdc dec, hdc 6, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (8)
    7. hdc dec hdc 4, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (6)
    8. hdc dec hdc 2, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (4)
    9. hdc dec 2, ch 1. (2).
    Fasten off & cut yarn.
    Right Ear Flap:
Note: the right ear flap is one round shorter to account for the slanting that happens when working in the round.
Skip 13 stitches around the back of the beanie and re-attach yarn in the 14th stitch.
    1. ch 1, hdc dec, hdc 14, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (16)
    2. hdc dec, hdc 12, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (14)
    3. hdc dec, hdc 10, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (12)
    4. hdc dec, hdc 8, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (10)
    5. hdc dec, hdc 6, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (8)
    6. hdc dec, hdc 4, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (6)
7 hdc dec, hdc 2, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (4)
    8. hdc dec 2, ch 1. (2)
    Fasten off & cut yarn.

If this still isn’t big enough, you can make round 10 an increase round as well.
      Round 9: (hdc 7, 2hdc) around. (72)
      Round 10: (hdc 8, 2hdc) around. (80)
Rounds 11-20: hdc in each stitch around. (80)
      New ear flap instructions:
      Left Ear flap:
      1. hdc 20, ch 1, turn. (20)
      2. hdc dec, hdc 16, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (18)
      3. hdc dec, hdc 14, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (16)
      4. hdc dec, hdc 12, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (14)
      5. hdc dec, hdc 10, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (12)

Agree 100% I used to love spider man but I'm not as into him anymore but my bff loves the newer movies and yesterday was her birthday and I sadly accidentally forgot due to a lot of stressful things in my life lately but I felt horrible and I had already planned to make her this for her birthday before hand but I'm so happy I found this video because I was able to already finished the red base of the beanie and it'sonly taken about 3 and a half ish hrs ( which for me is good cause I usually hate making beanies or things with over 30 stitches 😅) so this has been perfect for me to follow and I should hopefully be done by Tommorow to give to her as a late birthday gift 😊

Recommendations for other people who want to complete this pattern. Try it on as you go, and don't be afraid to use a .5mm bigger hook if the pattern is too tight or a smaller hook if it is too loose. I had to restart after row four to switch to a bigger hook, and I did the extra row of increases she suggested. I'm glad I did it because now it fits well, and the hat looks perfect. I wanted my hat to be a smidge oversized like Mayday's is for her, but that's just personal preference.
If you are using a worsted weight yarn, but the recommended hook size for the yarn is different, then I suggest you look at the difference between the hook size she used and the recommended hook size for the yarn she used. The red and blue yarn she's using recommend you use a 5mm hook, so if she's using a 6.5 hook, then use a hook 1.5mm bigger than the recommendation label on your yarn so the guage is correct.
If you want the eyes on your hat to be longer and more oval shaped than circular, use a smaller crochet hook. If you want the eyes on your hat to be more circular, then use a larger crochet hook.
Also if you can't do the crochet webbing without the hat riding up in the places you have the webbing (like if it looks like you've got a peak in your hat along the edge), then ditch the crochet hook and start sewing. If you sew through the yarn you've already sewn in (not sure what that type of stitch is called), then there won't be any visible gaps and you will get clean black webbing lines without the yarn pulling on your hat. I personally prefer this look over the crochet webbing, but they both look cool. I just don't want anyone to feel discouraged if the hat isn't coming out the way they hoped it would.

    • @leelahasan3988

@@Magali965 The yarn I was using recommended a 5.5mm hook, so I used a 6.0mm hook for the main part of the hat. I would still recommend measuring the body of the hat by row 4 the way that she does in her video, so that you can restart with the correct hook size if needed before you've put more than 60 minutes into the project.

@@mymom3338 hahaha it's okay i didn't know anything either when i started. Hdc is the short term for "half double crochet", it's a type of stich. There are a lot of different stitches. The basic one is called single crochet. That's the one everyone starts with. And after you get used to doing the basic stitch, you can experiment and learn new ones. 😊

    • @mymom3338

@urlocalarcticmonkeysfan OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH I hope I'm not annoying you but for this video are we using hdc or the basic stich?

    • @wallacetoldme
      @wallacetoldme Год назад +1

@@mymom3338 the beanie is mostly done in half double crochet, but there are places where you use single crochet. But yes i think like 80% of the beanie is done using hdc. And if you want your beanie to turn out the same as in the video, i do recommend using the same type of stich, because if you use the basic stich for the entire beanie it most certainly will turn out smaller in size. If you don't know how to do the hdc there are a LOT of really good tutorials and you will learn it in no time! 😊

Thank you for this tutorial! It only took one day to complete and it's gorgeous. Highly recommend using stitch markers as suggested and increasing for a couple extra rounds to make the hat bigger. I also used a 6.5 mm hook for the hat to make sure it was big enough. Now my Halloween outfit is complete ❤❤

One tip though for the people who are saying its too small, measure the size of your head and go at least an inch more than that before curling it (especially if you have curly hair like me, i went 2-3 inches more than ny head) hope that helps! ❤️💙🤍
