After Rory put out comments bashing us I felt I needed to explain what happened..

Everyone in the comments seems to be simping for Rory too much. Rory wasn't wrong for wanting to get paid, that is understandable given the materials and services provided. Rory was wrong for going on random forums and talking shit behind this guy's back. Rory had his number, if he had a problem, then he should have spoken to him man to man. This caddy bullshit of talking shit behind his back and refusing to speak to him again is unprofessional and would certainly make me never want to do any kind of business with him.
It sounds to me that Rory probably doesn’t want to do business with them if they don’t pay.
No offense to anyone, but all we get is one side. I'm NOT suggesting he's being dishonest, but all I'm saying is he shows making a call to Rory & then cuts away & tells us Rory didn't get back. We don't know Rory's side. This is just a video, & videos are easily edited.
I do NOT know Rory personally, but there's a couple of guys that left comments that do know him personally & they say Rory isn't like he claims.
Ben should have asked Rory to his face what he owed for the parts, labor and use of Rory’s garage before he left. Rory is in buisness, he helps people all the time he can’t help people for free every time. Ben should have offered him an amount, then they could have agreed on something.
I am 68 years old. I would price all the parts new and send the guy a check. I would never talk shit about someone who out of the goodness of their heart gave you their shop and parts to get wheeling again. Send him the money and let it go. Nothing in life is free. You can look back on this and say you learned a lesson in life. I watch trailmater a lot he is a good guy I think.

Not sure you understand how RUclips collabs work, They VERY often give each other things for shout outs and potential new subscribers. Which is what I believe Rory was doing but got butthurt when it didn't pan out for him. On top of the fact Rory is kinda known to trash talk people in those groups.

You're doing the subscriber-marketing thing by making a stink about it- simply go silent-price out the parts for what you would have paid from a dealer and send him a check. Done! you'll be done - he gets paid for everything except using his shop and lift time- which you could be big about and slip in another c note. His comments (video) to you in the shop did seem a little off for him that day so I imagine he was annoyed with you.

BECAUSE RORY WAS SELLING SHADY, USED PARTS, COMPROMISED IN A MAJOR CRASH and Rory knows he would be liable if anything happened downstream. SHADY Rory will NEVER write an invoice for crashed parts that were installed at his shop.

Read through a ton of comments....my big take away is, and maybe somebody mentioned it, you didnt bring any spare parts with you? Gonna run 20 badge of honor trails in 30 days and not expect to break anything? Front axle shafts and u-joints always go with me.
I have read through all of the comments in response to your video two months after you posted it Ben...and MOST of them (from good, smart, honest people, many of whom know Rory or have had experiences with him) AGREE (as do I) that you should have given Rory fair compensation for his help, his parts, the use of his shop and his time before you left, period. You didn't help Rory, he helped you, a lot...you had just gotten all of your broken Jeep parts, "in stock" and completely repaired THE SAME DAY with his shop, tools and help. Leaving him some money IS what MOST of the commenters said THEY (and I) would have done with a complete stranger we had asked for help and had just met under the circumstances you met Rory under and what he did for you. The majority of commenters have said you did not behave correctly in the situation and you made an assumption mistake...you will have to decide whether that is likely the case or not. ;)

My take is Rory doesn`t care about the parts. It`s the principle that you took all the parts , advice and use of the hoist without settling up. Rory didn`t want to put a price on anything he just wanted you to settle up what was fair on your side. You totally blew it. Rory doesn`t want anything to do with you now and for good reason.

I give parts, or tools no charge but I ALWAYS get offered something.....Beer, $40 bucks...depending on what it is. I gave a guy a driveline for a JK, it costs hundreds....he offered money for it...I said $100 and have a fun trip. The smile was a mile wide, and I didn't feel taken advantage of with $100. Nobody has ever accepted parts for 0, they always offer.

I get the initial miscommunication, but once it became obvious that the two of you were on different pages all that was really needed was a simple apology and move on. I think you took advantage of them. I have Met them and they were very cool and welcoming. What you did is wrong even if you thought it was free you should always ask how to repay or slip him money for what he did for you! We brought him a pac of mountain dew and a gift for lilly ( his daughter since you somehow dont follow him) and that was just a friendly showing for taking time to say hi. That would have cost thousands if you went to shop. Even if he said no i would have slipped him no less the 500. Thats common sense.

I am not a Jeep owner or have been to Moab but even I know what Rory and Trailmater are to the offroad community and trails there locally. Really seems odd that you haven't. I'm guessing that's why he questioned you about saying you Never heard about him or his channel. Maybe he took it personal that you didn't acknowledge his accomplishments as a well established offroad recovery channel. Also, come over and "talk me out of it " means "make me an offer I can't refuse". Just my 2 cents.
If that is true, than that shows a serious lack of maturity. Running a business means you keep it professional. The moment you start acting erratic...you start to loose customers, or followers in this case.

I have said something similar when people needed recovered, which was totally out of my way. Pay what you think it is worth but nothing is free. Not everyone knows your situation so they want to help you out. They just dont expect to do it for nothing.

Nothing is just a handshake man. Rory, Matt, Robby Layton, Bleepin Jeep, etc. Yes they do favors for eachother, and its ALWAYS a trade-off for other favors. Rory would never just slag someone, that man is generous AF. You used his shop, his tools, his parts. There's no way id walk out of there without giving him cash, regardless of what he says. Nothing is for free. Talk me out of it is a euphemism for, make me a deal. I do hope you guys work it out, time will tell. This isn't to bash you or your channel, its jus how see things based on my 25 years of experience doing favors and receiving favors in the car/ truck world. And I didn’t expect I would never have the opportunity to return the favor… I think that’s where so many that comment negatively don’t consider. The only thing I can think of is, if I was the 1 in need, I'd have already figured out a dollar amount, and had it in my hand, for the other party to refuse, and he'd have to refuse it more than 2 times. First "talk me out of it" does NOT mean it is free, nor is the use of the shop and tools free. To those of you saying that that is not the way the "Jeep Community" behaves, keep in mind, this is not a case where someone brakes down on the trail and then gets help getting to safety by another trail user, this is a man with a business, with expenses, with bills, and a family to support. Do you realize how fortunate you were to find the parts you needed nearby, the same day? Then throw in the use of his tools and hoist. Something like "man I know I borrowed your shop, lift, tools, and got those parts off your wrecked Jeep, so how much do I owe you for that?"

Everything I’ve seen from other RUclipsr’s and near all other social media platforms is that Rory Irish is a genuinely great guy that goes out of his way to help others. Your case is just another example of his generosity towards strangers, the parts you got are hard to come by, you knew that, so maybe your offering to pay should have been insisted by you. I can only imagine the amount of people that all want a little part of him, all the followers, the normal hustlers, then the ones that want to parasite from his social media platforms to boost their own, which one are you.

Anyone, anywhere can sell parts. Have you ever heard of facebook marketplace? I've bought several things where I had to take them off. Even if one discounts the parts issue, having use of a well-equipped shop when no other help was available is worth a $500 tip.

OK I have been a subscriber of Rory's for a long time now. He is a business man he works with people he saved you time and money. He let you use his shop and you thought that was all free. There is a respect thing that all RUclipsrs and people in the off road community have they work together on stuff. At the end of the day business is business you choose to take advantage of that in every way. Nothing in this world is free he would of made you a good deal because that is how he does business. I have never been to Moab I know how business is done.
Actually… I spoke with him a few days ago and he said he would have done it for free “if I would have just asked” me asking when I first talked to him in the phone “how much do you want for that thing” either didn’t count or he forgot. It was an obvious misunderstanding on both sides. (And yes in a good society there IS things for free. People should just always return the favor)

When I watched the beginning and saw you beating the he-double tooth picks out of your Jeep’s drivetrain, WHILE IT WAS WINCHING, I got a lot of insight into why there are so many off-road recoveries. All you had to do was take it easy, and let the winch pull you out. It was obvious you were telling the truth about not watching Trail Mator, or you would have known that much. I just couldn’t watch anymore after that.

I agree with most of what you said here. However, I did exactly that. I tried to reach out “privately” several times. No response. Rather than let his comments/accusations just sit unmatched I used the platform I do have to correct the record. I feel there is nothing wrong with that and I think people need to get back to that. In my opinion, this “turn the other cheek” nonsense has gotten our entire country into the mess it’s in… There is a time a place for that and this was just not it for me.
I can sympathize with ya brother, there is a time to stand up and defend you and yours but over an axle shaft and a post I’m not sure that was it..……. I'm from Missouri too. Come talk me out of it doesn't mean "you can have it" here. The real story is you treated Rory like a resource and offered nothing in exchange. You said yourself you called him multiple times, and in all of those exchanges you were looking for something from him. Just delete the RUclipsr mentality about views and subscribers and all that crap and look at what was actually exchanged. He gave you parts (more than you originally asked for) time, use of his shop and his knowledge, and you just told people he was cool. Now that he's had enough you're telling people what a bad guy he is, and recording videos of you leaving him subtly accusative messages and he's supposed to respond well to it? In fairness he could have responded better than how he did, but you created the situation entirely by not offering anything in return, and you have no right to complain.

He is also partially to blame for that in that he incorrectly assumed that you would voluntarily show your appreciation by paying what you valued his parts and service to be. He gave you too much credit. That's on him. I agree he shouldn't be shaming you publicly. I think this video is very self-serving on your part and just goes to show how unappreciative you are. I suggest you do a little self-reflection and stop seeing yourself as a victim.

I may not have liked it but that was his unspoken rule. This video was totally uncalled for and anyone who disagrees with Ben is either wrong or a Rory fan (which I take as a comliment). Realistically, I believe this video should be taken down. If that jeep was rolled over, a couple days ago, that's probably going for an insurance claim. Now you have put out video evidence of parts being taken from that jeep, which had/has an active claim against it. I have not watched the whole video, but I have had a blown drive shaft, in Moab. I had to go to Rory, who didn't help me, like you got helped. I was ok with that. I still found my parts and finished out an event. This is now how I would go about this situation.
Wow, an 8k subscriber channel taking advantage of a 200k subscriber channel that has a parts inventory that is worth far more that the price of the parts. Those parts allow Rory to do trail repairs and rescues. They are worth far more than mere money. Plus, you got an opportunity to put 'Trail Mater" and "Rory" in a video title so the algorithm puts your channel into Rory's audience's feed. You are obviously not a true part of the Jeep YT community if you were heading to Moab but had not found Trail Mater previously.
