I can't believe there's a video on this. Thanks! The screw holding the ratchet parts together must've been loose last time I was using mine and the ratchet wasn't working. This was an easy fix.
Thanks for posting! The part number was super helpful. I've had this wrench for a long time and was bummed to look for a replacement for something that had served me so well for so long.
I was about to throw mine out until I saw this video. Gave a simply cleaning and relube a shot and it works no problem now. The torx screw had worked itself loose over the years. Thanks!
Good Video - My local Sears store closed last November. I went to their "Store Closing" sale. I wasn't going there to buy tools, I actually went there hoping to get a Kenmore Gas Grill for as little money as possible (which didn't happen). However I did end up in the Craftsman area. I ended up buying Craftsman Click Style Torque Wrench (made very similar to yours) for only $39. (I also got a very nice set of Craftsman Pry Bars (Made in USA) for only $19 . Those items ended up being the last two things I ever bought from Sears as they closed about 2 weeks later.
I kinda get a kick out of the Sears website. I am still on their email list: "Shopyourway" or whatever they call it. They advertise all these fantastic prices. I notice however that the prices aren't really that great. Most of the prices are higher or at least the same as the prices of the same old Craftsman items when they went on sale when my store was still open here about three or four years ago, e.g. the 450 piece mechanic's tools kit for $199.
I have had mine for many years but have not used it that often. The grease had became hard and that caused the spring clip to bend. After cleaning it I made the spring tight by reducing the size of the radius. The spring was now tight against the center post and clipped into place. When assembled the direction dial would resist then easily find home and stay.
I have a craftsman torque wrench thats 20 or so uears old, a simpler design showing torque in a small glass window on the handle dial. It takes the same repair kit. Now to see if I can locate one. Thanks for the video.
You might try calling the Craftsman warranty phone number; they told me, that they still have rebuild kits, for ratchets. You might ask about the particular one you need; they may or may not be available anymore but worth a call to try. When I worked at Sears; we would install the ratchet rebuild kit for free and if not in stock, would order for the customer, call back to get it replaced. In my case, they gave me credit, for my broken ratchets and gave me points, to buy any Craftsman tools I wanted, from the Sears website (these were Sears Craftsman sourced tools). The local Sears store, in my area; closed recently and closest one, is about a hour away.
I’ve always thought the Digitorque’s looked cool but never got around to buying one on sale before my local Sears sadly closed. They got a lot of bad reviews on the site, but every real person I talked to one on one who owned one was happy with it.
Don't know how they've had bad reviews, after all this time, the thing is still accurate. Only issue I have is when the batteries get low the display doesn't know if the batteries are full or empty 😂
It's because the internals are shit. Mine worked one time before the spring gave out. Just ordered a rebuild kit (was not cheap) to see if I can salvage it. They just weren't well made or QA'd
Great video. Mine has issue with the electronics. Will not power on. Battery replacement has no effect. Any ideas? Do you know where I could get a kit to replace the electronics?
On mine I had a problem with the spring the nub is supposed to be at a 90° and mine was almost at a 45° angle so the paw would only engage one direction and skip completely the other
I bought the regular non electric click type wrench with the same head as this torque wrench. It broke after probably torqueing 3 sets of wheels. Sears in my area closed before I could get it fixed. Pretty sad when a harbor frieght torque wrench holds up better for a fraction of the price
I bought one of theses at a thrift store. Mine is missing the spring. Could I get you to take a picture of the spring for me? Maybe I could make my own.
Funny thing, just bought an old Husky in new condition, because American made. The head looks the same. I'm wondering if I should buy a kit just to cover my butt so if I need it then I have it.
I have the same model. Does anyone know how to disassemble it and recalibrate the torque spring. The manual only says take it to the sears store, but there are no more sears stores.
I take it that you mean replace the head instead of rebuild. If they sell the part, it would be pretty simple to do. They wouldn't guarantee calibration, tho.
So much for craftsman making quality tools. I probably would’ve been better off with a harbor freight rachet and guessing the torque.. This torque wrench by Craftsman is a big huge pile of garbage because the whole thing relies on a 1/32” diameter spring that bends out of place and halts your work... Real idiots over there

Thanks -- no rebuild here, but you got me through a deep cleaning and re-assembly after flood damage.
Much obliged!
Thank you, Garnett-Tools! Didn't need the rebuild kit after-all, just needed to see it taken apart and reassembled.

Yeah it seems they are closing up shop fast. Been a year or two since the Pittsburgh area had a single Sears.

This is what ive been looking for. Thanks for posting👍

Great video. I have Craftsman torque wrench. I can set the torque value, but one problem is that the handle freely moves up and down. Any ideas
rebuild the head, or buy a Tektonic

Well if you still got it you can probably throw one of these repair kit at it.
@@GarnettTools I'm gonna give it a shot! I'm hoping I just got a bad batch of Chinese internals, hoping the USA makes a difference
@@caleblaplante5005 yah I am hoping to do the same with mine. Did you wind up fixing it?
Can you do a video about rebuilding a click style craftsman torque
Do you have a video of testing it out?

Any way to calibrate these things? Mine is off by 10%
Nice rebuild. Good eye on guessng that rebuild kit can be used on your torque wrench.
Where did you get the repair kit??
I been wondering about trying a whole different head on a torque wrench.
I take it that you mean replace the head instead of rebuild. If they sell the part, it would be pretty simple to do. They wouldn't guarantee calibration, tho.
good video G
Thanks bud!
I can’t see
👍
Appreciate ya!
@@GarnettTools thanks man! I enjoy the videos you put out. I appreciate the time you put in to make them.

gear wrench or Tektonic will get you a new wrench for about the price of a repair kit
