  • In this video I disassemble my Tekton torque wrench to figure out why it stopped clicking. I take apart the torque wrench, re-grease, and reassemble. Very detailed for anyone needing to do this step by step.

Once you take one apart, you should check the calibration on it. It should click within 15% -/+ of what you have it set for. Always take the wrench back to zero after use to remove tension on the spring.

Ok, now that is very interesting!
As I mentioned about, all these wrenches coming in from China are having the NO CLICK issue right out of the box and not even in the cold.
I really have to wonder if they are using a cheap, really thick/sticky grease.
I wonder what type of grease a person could find that is very thin and light and doesn't get thick or hard at any time, especially when cold.
      hmmm

    Thanks for this video.
Now this has me wondering if THIS BAD GREASE thing might be one of the reason that so many of these lower priced ones, coming in from China, are having major problems with the "NO CLICK" issue. It's amazing how many reviews on so many makes and models have this problem of no click happening and people breaking bolts off and damaging stuff.
I bought 2 of these last week.
The smaller one was 1/4", Inch Pounds. It never clicked at all. I tried to test it on my vise, but due to no click, I wasn't sure how hard I should push it. I pushed it hard to see if that would free it up and the danged thing split the vise in half! It actually broke the entire base (white metal).
I just returned both of them without testing the 3/8" one.
THEN I checked reviews, something I should have done first as it turns out. I was shocked to see that more than 1/2 of the reviews.... in fact, the majority, were all complaining about the exact same thing! NO CLICK and the breaking of bolts.
So, now I wonder if the problem might be that these cheap factories might be using bad grease or overly sticky grease that may be causing the problem.
    ORRRRR
after seeing how JR inserted first the "click part", making sure that it was aligned with that front part where they meet to make the click, I then wonder now if perhaps THAT is the problem (or part of multiple problems) that from factory, the click roller thingy isn't even inserted properly.
Let's just be honest here. One reason so many products from China are sub standard is the sheer lack of QUALITY CONTROL!
In fact, on Amazon, there is what LOOKS like a really nice kit. What I like about it is that instead of shiny chrome, it's black with yellow letters and those guide things.
It's also Tekton, but again, LOTS of the EXACT SAME BAD REVIEWS of NO CLICK.
I'm tempted to order one and take it apart to see if it's an easy fix with totally cleaning out that grease and repacking with a lighter type of grease.
    hmmmmm

Store it in minimum setting will destroy it. Already have 2 destroyed, that is stop clicking at lower settings. What happens at minimum setting is the adjustment nut in the handle locks up and clicking disappeared at low settings. Should store it with spring slightly compressed, YMMV. This applies for the Craftsman and Kobalt, not idea about Tektron, a different design. Had click styles and digital failed. I think beam and analog dial are more reliable. Maybe will tryout a split beam next, I hear its more reliable with 2% accuracy.

You have schmutz in the plastic cover for the can of grease, the cover that it designed to keep schmutz out of the can of grease. Put the cover on the can, and schmutz can get into the grease. Not good! Clean the cover before you put it on the can! I bet you forgot to do that last time. Great explanation by the way, of disassembling and assembling a springy-dingy clicky-type of torquerizer. But use clean grease! How does one CALIBRATE this torquerizer thing, by the way? After you disassemble it and lube it up nice, you probably need to recalibraate it. And that threaded nipple at the handle end, that threads into something, and that the end cap thread over - how far in does one thread the nipple, before putting the end cap on? Or perhaps maybe it does not make a lot of difference, as long as it is threaded in far enough to have a good grip and not tear the threads and pull out when you thread the cap on?

As someone who was involved in videography for a long time, I remember when Auto Focus became a thing.
At first, I thought that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. LOL
At least, in those days, there was an option to enable or disable AF easily.
But it seems that these cameras now either don't have an button to enable/disable it OR if there is a way, it's way down in some menu and a pain to get to.
IF there is an option to disable, these people making videos should consider disabling it then manually focusing in on the work area.
There's no need to fight with that stupid mechanism.
