Many thanks for this video. My torque wrench was about to be scrapped as I could hang off it without it clicking. Your help, twenty minutes and a little grease and it's working again 🙂.
This video makes me feel a lot better about the cheapo great neck torque wrench that I just took apart and serviced, the guts on the inside are exactly the same as what Tekton uses on their torque wrenches.
Thanks for the video. You saved my torque wrench! My wrench wouldn’t click. I thought it was broken. Had no idea you could service these things. Why would you disassemble this on a rug?
I keep my Gearwrench torque in my garage and probably because is not heated the grease got thicker and I couldn’t here it clicking so I took my wife’s hair dryer and set it up on low high for a good 15 minutes and it worked!!!
Once you take one apart, you should check the calibration on it. It should click within 15% -/+ of what you have it set for. Always take the wrench back to zero after use to remove tension on the spring.
I have the shorter version of this TW and you helped me repair and calibrate it. Thanks. Note to future self "Don't bang on TW with a hammer in frustration trying to break loose a nut"
Thank you and Well done.............followed instruction but stll no click (torque setting).............so will strip it down and try again...............bye the way........do you know what the two pins in the threaded section, which screws into the handle twist grip do................mine are missing............Appreciated........Ron
Outstanding video bud! Thanks for helping me fix my wrench! I had made the mistake of storing my wrench all the way down below zero and that locking pin popped out.
Great video! With my Tekton torque wrench, I've noticed that no matter how much I tighten the locking mechanism at the bottom of the handle, the handle still has a bit of play. I shouldn't move at all I don't think. Do you think if I tightened the hex screw on the locking mechanism, that will fix the issue?
Much appreciated, I took mine apart because of no clicks and it was missing the ball bearings on that last piece. Any idea what size ball bearings it uses?
Very nice video I didn't find like this in you tube, detailed. Because I lost the bottom portion I wonder the size of the thread so O can replace it. If any help I'll appreciated thank you anyway.
Ok so where do the batteries go? Mine came with batteries and a tube of grease.. tekton 24335 right? Mine looks different though and says it has 3 vibration settings but i cant find the 1/2 inch adaptor that fits the head.. ya know, i wonder if my wife switched our gifts.. godamnit now im going to have to clean it before it starts to get crusty.. keeping this grease though, wonder where youd buy scented grease at? Never heard of Forher brand..
I have two Tekton torque wrenches that have this issue. I tried regreasing the larger one but still no dice. I submitted a warranty claim and they sent me two new wrenches, no questions asked.
Anyone know how to fix the black adjuster on the bottom mine is frozen? Autozone claims it has no warranty. I cant use it on low torque settings because the adjuster is too loose it only tightens and hols the torque I want on higher settings.
My torque wrench just does the opposite. It clicks easily at whatever torque I set (ex. I set it at 140lb to torque the tire of my truck just to test it and it would click without using much force.. I'm not that strong:)). Does it mean my torque wrench is broken, or there's still a way to fix it.. ? Appreciate it if I could have an answer.
9:10 , get a magnetic telescope stick/rod, pull it from the other side, attach that "peace that is hard to fit correctly" to it, and you will be able to fit it however you want
My old torque wrench handle would turn while I tightened the bolt. How do I fix that. The new one does the same thing but not as bad. Example: I am set for 20 lbs as I tightened the bolt I noticed the handle was now on 40 lbs. This only happens on the low lb settings
@@ianbarnes961 Yes, on the new one, I found out, that they can't be stored at a high setting. It messes up the spring. I backed the new one to the lowest setting and let it sit for a day or two. It works. The old one, well no hope. Thank you for your help
Very informative video. I have a torque wrench where the locking nut is no longer loose and is extremely difficult to turn. Is it the hex screw that needs to be loosened? If so, does the wrench need to be re-calibrated? Thanks!
Store it in minimum setting will destroy it. Already have 2 destroyed, that is stop clicking at lower settings. What happens at minimum setting is the adjustment nut in the handle locks up and clicking disappeared at low settings. Should store it with spring slightly compressed, YMMV. This applies for the Craftsman and Kobalt, not idea about Tektron, a different design. Had click styles and digital failed. I think beam and analog dial are more reliable. Maybe will tryout a split beam next, I hear its more reliable with 2% accuracy.
You know there is a point where you say to heck and just go buy a new one. That for me happened about the time you said one of these tools for the c-clip. Nicely done though.
Do you think a guy could avoid rebuilding these things if he were to pour a li'l air tool oil in the ratchet end once-in-a-while? Over his living room carpet, of course! ;)
You have schmutz in the plastic cover for the can of grease, the cover that it designed to keep schmutz out of the can of grease. Put the cover on the can, and schmutz can get into the grease. Not good! Clean the cover before you put it on the can! I bet you forgot to do that last time. Great explanation by the way, of disassembling and assembling a springy-dingy clicky-type of torquerizer. But use clean grease! How does one CALIBRATE this torquerizer thing, by the way? After you disassemble it and lube it up nice, you probably need to recalibraate it. And that threaded nipple at the handle end, that threads into something, and that the end cap thread over - how far in does one thread the nipple, before putting the end cap on? Or perhaps maybe it does not make a lot of difference, as long as it is threaded in far enough to have a good grip and not tear the threads and pull out when you thread the cap on?
Please do a video on "removing grease from the carpet"...

it happened to me just like you
Certainly you are a Bob Ross of torque wrench. Thanks for the show.
I needed to disassemble the torque wrench to see why locking mechanism doesn't turn all the way, this video helped me a lot. Thank you!
A big thank you for sharing this video. I was about to through out my proto wrench. I watched this video and repaired my torque wrench.
Next video he will repack wheel bearings on the fresh bed linen
You win, I couldn't stop laughing

Lol

I kept thinking of his mom yelling.... "Jared! Did you get grease on my carpet!?"

You rock. I was so overwhelmed by this tool. Don't understand it really, but I can fix it, so thanks.
Your wife must love you tearing that greasy torque wrench apart on the living room carpet.
😂😂
Wife, not so much.
Mom, definitely!
Steven Davis he bangs her right on it while calling you’re name out 😂
@@rahrah8076 you prat. Is that all you could think of to say?

Your wife probably loved how you were working with grease on the carpet lol thanks for a video I learned a few things 👍
Thank you sir. I had a newer inch torque wrench that stopped clicking. Thanks to you, I was able to fix it and not have to buy another one.
Thank you! My wrench was stuck. Only took under 10 minutes to fix. Just wonder how much the specs are off at this point. Prolly still close enough.
Thanks, this really helped with my uncooperative torque wrench.
I have the shorter version of this TW and you helped me repair and calibrate it. Thanks. Note to future self "Don't bang on TW with a hammer in frustration trying to break loose a nut"
great video kudos, question does it come into adjustment or does it have to be readjusted? if so do you have a video for that ? ty
How do you know if the preload to the spring is correct?
Thanks a lot. Your video help me to fix my torque wrench. Nice clear instruction.

Great video, I also suggest a very small amount of blue threadlocker on the final hex set bolt threads.

Was thinking about looking up something for tekton t.wrench. All of handle parts separated was wondering how to reassemble properly.
I found mine in a terrible state its calibration is way off, i should be able to fix it after this thanks

So was it not working before and now you cleaned the clicking mechanism now it does work ?
Will you need to recalibrate it afterwards?
Yes, that is why I made another video on how to calibrate it.

do i need to take off the top part just to unscrew the handle? I just want to take the handle of to grease the thread of it.
please show how to do calibration.

Will the torque wrench need to be recalibrated afterwords since you are taking everything apart?

When you put the Torque wrench away after using it and back the pressure off, the little lock knob at the bottom, should that be locked on or off?
It is just a lock like you said, so it doesn't matter its position
Just a little tip, though pliers are made to pull the other way.
How about calibration
Nice idea doing fiddly job over carpet, it'l stop small parts bouncing away like the do on my wife's lace tablecloth.
Great Job

Put a carboard or newspaper down to cover the nice clean rug next time, man. Also helps find parts easier if you dropped them.

You didnt consider to take the measurement of the thread before disassembling the whole thing
