yeah, i hate it when people act like Red Aggro is super easy to play. especially when its a smug control player. sitting up with removal and counterspells every turn isnt difficult, its much harder to effectively play around them. and while it feels unfair to get rolled on turn 2 because you dont have the necessary interaction, its much worse to be trapped in a 15min game, where your opponent doesnt do anything except preventing you from having fun. (yeah, i hate control, if you couldnt tell)

I started playing yesterday, after the update, and after 4 matches in a row against mono-red with Turn Inside Out and Heartfire Hero and Leyline, I decided to play a deck with 16 instant speed removal spells.

That can cause a lot of salt where someone's idea of casual might be $30 budget midrange and another player's idea of casual might be $5k planeswalker/board wipes or a turn 4 meme combo deck. The quality of games hinges on communication and willingness to compromise. If you have a dedicated playgroup they can be the best games of Magic you'll ever play. But random groups are always a roll of the dice.

in match 5, if i'm not mistaken, you could more simply main phase 1 fling the hero for 4+4 damage, leaving them at 1, then attack with the remaing two creatures, each hitting for 2, while they can only block one.
Any 4-of has about a 39% chance to be in your opening hand (on the play). So think about that. 2 out of every 5 matches you play against mono-red, they'll have the Leyline turn 1.
I was curious and did the match, it checks out. 1-(56!/((56-7)!*(60!/(60-7)!))) = 0.39949962574 of having at least one in your starting 7. If you mulligan then it's even higher, just power everything inside the parenthesis by the amount of times you mulligan, for example if you mulligan only once, 1-(56!/((56-7)!*(60!/(60-7)!)))^2 = 63% chance of seeing at least one leyline in the 14 cards
We have a precedent of Arena banning a card in Bo1 (Nexus of Fate), so if this deck becomes a nightmare in that mode, I can see them banning 1 or 2 components
I hate to be the naysayer here but it really feels like this game (MTG, not MTG arena) is going down the toilet. And it's not just because of this, or just because of mono-red aggro, or because of a completely broken, failed standard format. They are just the symptoms. WOTC printing a turn 0 leyline for mono red aggro pump spells, which was already obnoxious, overpowered, and overrepresented in the meta, is just so completely ignorant of what the format needs right now. If this was an isolated incident it would be one thing, but the rate at which WOTC pumps out broken, untested garbage is accelerating. I don't care what your opinion is, like "well some people like fast games" or "it's just a matter of opinion on what kind of games are fun." TURN 3 WINS, LET ALONE TURN 2 WINS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE IN MTG STANDARD, NOR SHOULD THEY EVER BE. IT'S ABSURD.

The deck can still win without it, so if a hand looks good I'll keep without Leyline. We do have to adjust the bar for what makes a good opening hand, since the format just sped up by a whole turn.
I think you could've won in Match 5 without killing bats: just attack with Swiftspear and face down creature. Opponent blocks one of it and falls down to 8 (or lower if they block Swiftsprear). Then play Sell-Sword on Hero, triggering Valiant (Hero's power goes up to 4) to deal 4 damage to opponent and additional 4 from Hero's trigger - exactly 8 total to kill opponent :)
on 15:50 you couldve just cast the sword on the heartfire and swang for lethal .. simple :P then at 39:23 I think you had lethal as well. You attack, and cast both rages on one of scamps defended (or not) by the token.. you deal 5 assuming everything else is blocked. then 1 extra from theother dead scamp. Then you cast sell sword on scamp for 12 and on challanger for 5. thats enough damage

I love farming this deck with B/W. One guy hand 2 Laylines in the first turn. Tried to hit me with 2 creatures for like 19 damage. I exiled both of them and he quits the game.

I never understand the reasoning behind leylines going straight to the battlefield (if it's in your starter hand). How is a free 4-mana enchantment balanced?
Because it's overpriced for what it does: an enchantment like that, which doesn't affect the board when played, should cost around 2 mana not to be a dead draw later in the game. But it balances its cost with the chance of having it for free on the board at the beginning of some games. Essentially, it introduces variance in games. Instead of always having a 2 mana effect, sometimes you have a 0 mana one and sometimes a 4 mana one.
I’ve already listed my entire paper collection for sale. I’ve had enough of a headache on arena and its shuffler, matchmaking and in game economy. I don’t understand what WoTC is doing but I cannot support it anymore. Between their decision about rotation and the cards they’ve released in recent years. Game 1 opponent misplayed hard. There's no reason to cast helix at sorcery speed when beating the red deck is all about timing interaction around their pump spells.

It's actually FAR worse than that with mulligans. Try more like 98% or something, if willing to mulligan to 5.

Because it's overpriced for what it does: an enchantment like that, which doesn't affect the board when played, should cost around 2 mana not to be a dead draw later in the game. But it balances its cost with the chance of having it for free on the board at the beginning of some games.
Essentially, it introduces variance in games. Instead of always having a 2 mana effect, sometimes you have a 0 mana one and sometimes a 4 mana one.
I’ve already listed my entire paper collection for sale. I’ve had enough of a headache on arena and its shuffler, matchmaking and in game economy. I don’t understand what WoTC is doing but I cannot support it anymore. Between their decision about rotation and the cards they’ve released in recent years. Do not mean to sound like I’m hating..it’s just not for me anymore. Thousands of dollars and 28 years was still fun and no regrets. But it’s not enjoyable anymore : (

Thank god! Standard games were waaaay too long
Game 1 opponent misplayed hard. There's no reason to cast helix at sorcery speed when beating the red deck is all about timing interaction around their pump spells.
That's debatable, cards like Dreadmaw's Ire can punish them for waiting even if they respond to another Valiant trigger.
