Years ago my parents got an above grade swimming pool. My dad supervised as all the girls built the base for it to sit on, and the boys built the privacy fence.
You guys will love this! We bought a pair of steps that had wide steps to go down In the pool....loved them. I hated the stair steps that came with the pool. We built a deck around ours and enjoyed just sitting out in the late evenings. Enjoy!
I put an above ground pool in for my young children 20+ years ago. One one the best purchases I ever made. I hope you all enjoy yours as much as we did ours.
Nice pool! When we installed our pool, we ran a water line and installed a faucet next to the ladder, so people could clean their feet before entering. It was a great help in keeping the pool clean. Also, because of county code, we had to put a fence around it for safety.
Don't know whether someone else has mentioned this, but if you are worried about the sand base being eroded from the water splashing/going over the top of the pool, suggest you get a bigger tarp that will extend over the edges of the base foundation that way it would allow the water will run off over the tarp that extends beyond the edges of the base foundation and not onto the sand base but run onto the ground around the pool.
I really enjoyed this episode! Interesting, informative and educational! Sam and Angela, I really enjoy the fact y’all don’t do “click bait” videos. You’re always a good home and Family show. Kudos on the new pool build, yes, the tweaked non squared base of the pool would bug me too, but hey… it’s changeable! Love the Homestead progress, and hope y’all have many enjoyable hours in the new pool!
That pool looks good but what a lot of hard work. I installed one of those pools for a friend and used concrete pavers (1 foot square) on some tamped level sand. I also used some carper underlay on top of the pavers and covered the pavers completely, so no dirty feet in the pool. The underlay can be vacuumed every so often to keep it clean. Thanks for posting
My hubby built a pool base around our 24 foot above ground pool many years ago. Our yard had a pretty good slope and I think the back was about 4 feet higher. It took awhile but we enjoyed that pool for many years. He also built a big deck around it. We had 4 kids so it got plenty of use. We covered it in the winter.
Above ground pools are great for kids. In the sixties my little brother and I got a above ground pool,so much fun! Your kids will never forget getting the pool.
Nice addition,👌 to your homestead. It's all coming together at your new home, with all your planning, sacrifice, and hard work, which is finally paying off in the long run. "Life is indeed good"!
What a great activity for the whole family, especially your boys. When I was young, my dad and one of my sisters hand dug a pool and lined it thick with cement. It wasn't as big or deep but we all loved it. I'm sure you have strick rules for the boys. Have fun.
How fun for all of you to cool off on those hot summer days or after working hard and just wanting to take a quick dip. I bet the boys are in heaven and will be swimming like fish sooner than later.......always fun to be in the pool and refreshing and relaxing. Good job guys. Thrilled for your future ideas and I think it is going to be wonderful! Blessings to all and stay safe...........enjoy your hard labors!
Sam you and Angela did an amazing job. I have seen a lot of people with above ground pools like that one at none of them have ever gone to the trouble of doing the base the way that you do. It looks beautiful. happy swimming and keeping cool.
Great job on the pool! Only thing I would recommend from my experience is to add pavers under each pool leg. Less sag when the pool fully sets in your base. Good luck and great job!
What a wonderful gift for your family. A pool is great to have fun in and also a great way to get exercise. Your family will have years of memories swimming in their own pool. Kudos 👏👏👏👏
Oh gosh Sam and Angela I think this pool project turned out so cool. that is a fabulous looking pool that seems like your boys are really enjoying it. I know that you mentioned it is not perfectly square on the base, and it is a little off but mostly still looks good. and I am sure that if you did take it down in the winter when setting it back up I am sure you will get it back on there perfectly square. But I really think building your deck out and in front of the pool will be so special and cool looking and that is one video I am really looking forward to seeing. I just love the size of this pool and wish I had the space for one that large but I don't I have a very small yard. Thanks so much for this wonderful video have a beautiful and blessed rest of your weekend, sending love and hugs, bye! 😍🤗👋👋👍🙌💞💕💜
So glad to see your video up today. I had been missing you and wondered if everything was ok. Now I’m not only relieved to see that you’re fine, but tickled pink to see what you’ve been up to. Your summer just got to be more fun. You all, including the boys, have worked so hard on your new place. Now it’s time for some fun. Don’t you just love flat land!
Great addition to the homestead for the boys primarily but also for the whole family. The exertion & exercise will help to keep you fit. And help to relax you all also. I was /am on the larger size and I swam in my cousins above ground pool every night after her young kids went in to get ready for bed. I was living on their farmstead in the converted cement block milkhouse converted into a tiny cabin. The pool was 12 feet from my front door. I toned up and even lost a few pounds from "playing" in the pool for 30- 45 minutes every night & I slept like a baby afterwards. So, it was a win/win for me. A pool vacuum and a car wash mitt and 15 minutes keeps the pool sparkling clean. I used the mitt to wash down the walls & to wash the pool floor with the mitt on your feet. Then vacuum. Done! It takes about 20 minutes from start to finish. And back flush the sand filter the pool is cleaned in 30 minutes once a week. Get one of those floating ducky thermometers that dispense the chlorine tablets by float around in your pool. If you really want some fun, buy one of the "bucking bull" pool floats they ate a huge riot of fun trying to ride the "bull" in the pool.😅
Oh and a small plastic kiddy pool under the ladders feet so you step in as you step up to climb the ladder keeps your feet washed off of dirt, grass clippings etc.
Add an outdoor shower on your deck. Great place to rinse off before getting in and out of pool. We even set out shampoo and a body wash. Yep, been there and done that and loved it!
Great addition for summer for the whole family...I would build a fence in front of the hoses, a tad shorter than the pool, with a wide access door that opens outwards for changing the filters...a cover is a good idea too especially if you keep it out during winter and to stop wild life taking a midnight dip...😊👍🇬🇧
We had an above ground pool also & loved it. Your family will also. We put a plastic dish tub at the steps going up to the deck for kids especially to rinse their feet before getting in the pool. Saved a lot on sand in the pool. Also Sam you & Angela have beautiful tans going on. Looks great on you both. Loved this video.
We had this pool from 2006 - 2023. Replaced it this year for the first time. Spent a lot of money on it in 2006, but could not have been happier with it, and through all of those years, definitely worth it. We took it down some years and quickly realized there was no reason to do so. Exactly as you say, the ladder feels wonky, but we kept both it and the pump (from the old pool for the new pool)... both still going strong. I'm thinking you'll enjoy it for years to come!
I live in WV and have a 22ft x 52 in Intex pool for 3 years and never took it down. I just winterized it and put a pool cover on it. No problems at all. Enjoy!
What is winterized, we just set up our above ground pool and we also don't plan to take it down, so looking for tips to not waste water during winter and not have a super slimey pool too?
I just set one up on a slope - what a chore and not nearly as nice as your base. Those boys and you two will love this pool. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy! Putting a basin next to the ladder to wash feet before entering the pool is nice to keep stuff out of your pool. A deck build will be great. You might want to look at a salt water converter which converts salt to chlorine. They work great and eliminate the need for extra chlorine. I look forward to that video.
Hi Sam. Cover the sand sides with Composite boards over the sand. One - they last longer and can be used over again. Two - they are smooth under foot if you are getting toys. And three - they look awesome and are easier to work with. Your deck can be made square and straight to the closest corner of the pool to the house and add a 2 x 4 where needed to strenghthen the other side that extra 6 inches to a foot. Sort of a long thin triangular stringer to make the longer side look even with the pool side then next year remove the triangle piece, trim the top boards and set the pool parallel to the raised deck.
Wow, what a nice pool. You guys are really going to enjoy it in this hot weather. Maybe some type of shade covering would be nice. That way, the sun won't be blasting down on you while you're swimming. I think the pea gravel will really look nice. Enjoy!
I had a similar pool 12x24x48, the only issue I ever had was the corner rusting. I would suggest getting the intex vacuum. I had the pool for 5 yrs and never took it down. I loved it.
We just set up ours and I also plan to not take it down, what did you do during winter months, did you put on the filtration each day? What worked for you guys to keep it clean?
Sam, Sam his our man,Sam can do whatever he can..Angela, I know your proud ..Angela, enjoy seeing you and the boys helping out.. FAMILY TEAM WORK.. Pool looks great..Boys are diffently enjoy it... ♥️🌹
Really Wonderful Video. Wonderful JOB!! Y'all must be an Engineer - wants it all perfect. So does my husband - for our above ground pool. Ours is much like yours. Super Great Job ! ! !
Good evening Sam and Angela , guys ! where HAVE you been ? I thought I had missed out on watching your vlogs , so i looked on your profile and found that you hadnt filmed in a while , and someone else mentioned it to you , I was SO relieved to find you arent offline .
Just a tip...keep up with some hornet spray in the pockets the base slides into, they WILL get into it and cause some issues. Hard piping the filter is super easy and SO WORTH IT.
I had one as a kid growing up (I'm 72). We installed ours, too. It was wonderful. My mother said it as the best thing they bought for us kids. It is excellent exercise for your joints. Your boys are really enjoying it. Wise purchase for family fun and exercise. God bless and stay safe. ❤❤❤❤❤
You will get a lot of use and fun with the pool, I did that years ago for my kids even the family dog (Labrador) loved it. I would check with your homeowners insurance to find out if you need a fence they call it a attractive nuisance in case a neighbor wondered into your pool and something happened. Take care guys
I think it looks great and I know you will enjoy it for some time. I like the idea of the deck as it will give it a better look and like you said make it more stable for adults.
potted plants around the base will help asthetics plus take in splashed water. A small foot tub will help wash off soiled feet. This pool looks really nice..have fun
Hey guy's get you a plastic tub container put water in it and set it by the ladder the kids can rinse their feet off before they get in, it's what I always did, it looks good☺☺
Sam sooo cool you guys put the pool in! Now you guys can relax a bit after all the hard work! One thought I had was on you adding the pea gravel…in time it may shift twards the pool liner especially if you take it down for winter. You may want to put artificial turf around the edge instead? Just a thought…enjoy that pool its well deserved!
The one thing I like when you make something or build something is yeah you probably go overboard as far as securing, nailing, making it safe, making it last 250 years. I would rather see that especially as a parent and a mom the over doing it just in case then to have to do it with whatever you can find around the Homestead. You’re gonna have to replace the pool itself 50 times before you’ll ever have to replace that base. Great job. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You will all enjoy that pool so much. Nothing is better than taking a dunk after working for a few hours in the sun. Hopefully the boys already know how to swim.
When I had above ground pool I put a kiddies pool at the bottom of the stairs before getting on the deck going around the pool. That kept all the dirt and sand out of the pool. You could put at the bottom of your ladder until you get a deck built. It looks really nice and refreshing.
I've watched dozens of videos on above ground pool instalations and I have to say this is by far the best (and most sensible and will last the longest) base prep and base build I've seen.
Hey Tinkerbell, lol Sam get yourself a shallow polyethylene tray bout 5" tall fill with water by the pool ladder to dip n rinse feet prior to getting in the pool, cuts down debris getting dragged in on soles of feet. Don't take it apart for winter . Just reduce the water level. Drain plumbing or fill pipes with R V Antifreeze
We enjoy your family content. I have a similar umbrella that blowed around in the wind. I tied the 2 corners to the deck with parachute string which keeps it from blowing away.
Sam and Angela...put a container with water in it, place by the ladder for dirty feet. Kids just step in, get sand off of feet before getting back in pool. We used to do this!
Sam can you PLEASE 🙏🏼 go over how you keep the pool clean? Like the chemicals/treatments you have to use. I know nothing about that and that’s the only thing keeping me from getting a pool similar to this
You could get some netting and hang it around the sides of the pool and from poles that are higher than the sides of the pool so it catches the toys that come out.
OH WOW! the boys must be thrilled to bits , to have this magnificent pool to play in . next thing i expect to find is you in speedoes as a pool boy so Angela can watch you as she lays on a lounger with a cocktail in her hand.
When my in-laws put in a pool for our kids my father-in-law put a water filled foot tub at the bottom of the ladder for them to rinse their feet in to help keep the pool clean.Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
My kids are grown and moved away now but I always had a pool in my yard for my kids. It was very important my kids knew how to swim proficiently. To keep the loose sand and grass cuttings out of my pool, I had a foot bath at the ladder leading into my pool and my kids were trained very well to keeping our pool clean as possible without being crazy. We used auto skimmers and hand skimmers for the bugs floating on top. The ladder was too skimpy so we built 2”x4” boards alongside the ladder to beef it up and that worked and dealt safe to use. You guys did a very nice job and I can relate to your resentment about the pool being off kilter a little bit in regards to the squareness to the base since you do plan on adding a pool deck. For that, build your pool deck where it hangs over the edges a small bit and when you re assemble your pool next spring, square everything off then. Happy swimming!
Excellent video, we have the same pool, have had it for 3 seasons now. I have never had a pool so this was a little intimidating but after I got past that it's a walk in the park, I live in East Tennessee also and I do not tear mine down, We were also Iucky that I had a cement pad to put ours on, I bought what is called an Elephant pad and it really makes the bottom feel nice. For the winter shutdown I remove 1/2 the water and use a very HEAVY duty tarp to cover it, the cover that comes with it is junk. I use plastic jugs tied to each eyelit of the tarp to hold it in place. It will fill with weather water yes, I bought a siphon pump (cheap one) and periodically drop the level that is in the tarp cover. Have had no problems. I use a winter chemical make up (it's actually called winter storage) and again have had no problems. I do at the spring time of the year I drain the pool completely and wash it good. Refill and move on with my life. Here in TN. it cost me 10 bucks to fill every year, big deal. I have a skimmer that clamps to the top pool and it works pretty good, I also put skimmer socks on it. Remember to backwash every two weeks and rinse. DO NOT move that lever unless the pump is OFF ONLY. I am interested to see what skimmer your going to install, I have tossed this around just afraid to cut and possibly weaken the material walls. Once it's cut there is no going back. Oh Boy.
Now I know why we haven’t seen you for awhile. So exciting for you, Angela and the boys.
Years ago my parents got an above grade swimming pool. My dad supervised as all the girls built the base for it to sit on, and the boys built the privacy fence.
Yay!! A pool!!! Best thing ever for the whole family!! And…. just at the right time! Your boys will remember this forever❣️
Love your project! When we had an above ground pool we used a big dish pan to rinse our feet off before going up the ladder kept the pool cleaner.
You guys will love this! We bought a pair of steps that had wide steps to go down In the pool....loved them. I hated the stair steps that came with the pool. We built a deck around ours and enjoyed just sitting out in the late evenings. Enjoy!
Awesome pool!! As always, very informational! Them boys are growing like weeds in your favorite flower bed!!😆 Have an awesomely blessed weekend.
I put an above ground pool in for my young children 20+ years ago. One one the best purchases I ever made.
I hope you all enjoy yours as much as we did ours.
Nothing beats the 1st swim after the pools 1st fill up. The water feels soo much cleaner to me
Nice pool! When we installed our pool, we ran a water line and installed a faucet next to the ladder, so people could clean their feet before entering. It was a great help in keeping the pool clean. Also, because of county code, we had to put a fence around it for safety.

Once you get that deck done, you’ll be so pleased you did one.
What an awesome addition to the homestead! You definitely couldn't have had a pool in NC! The boys look comfortable in the water. Stay safe everyone!
Why no pool in NC?
I have one in NC. Why not? HOA?
I really enjoyed this episode! Interesting, informative and educational! Sam and Angela, I really enjoy the fact y’all don’t do “click bait” videos. You’re always a good home and Family show.
Kudos on the new pool build, yes, the tweaked non squared base of the pool would bug me too, but hey… it’s changeable! Love the Homestead progress, and hope y’all have many enjoyable hours in the new pool!
That pool looks good but what a lot of hard work. I installed one of those pools for a friend and used concrete pavers (1 foot square) on some tamped level sand. Sam, good to see you guys again. Great job on the pool. Kids love the water and keeps the family together. Thank you.
Absolutely wonderful…think about how far everything has come in a year!

The deck idea is good....less accidents. Your a good parents...the kids must love the summer now....hugs

This is awesome for the kids and you. A great way to cool down, and have family fun.
Sounds like the filter is quiet! Yay! I used to drive by a pool like this and it was up about 10 years! Not bad, I'd say. So excited for the boys!
Very Cool! Enjoy Green Acre Homestead Family.
What a wonderful gift for your family. A pool is great to have fun in and also a great way to get exercise. Your family will have years of memories swimming in their own pool. Kudos 👏👏👏👏
Great idea to add a pool. Nice looking one also. Just what you needed for this hot summer this year. Enjoy 😅.
As always the job you guys have done is fantastic. Everything you do is way above what most people would do.

That's a nice pool! The deck will be a great addition to it. I can see how the unsquareness of it to the pad would drive you crazy!
Great videography again makes everything very easy to understand. Thanks.
You guys are full of surprises! Looks so refreshing!
I would definitely take it down during the winter. Our pools have lasted longer and not having to deal with the pool getting gross is worth it.
You all work very hard. Hope you get to play harder for a while anyway. There is always something to do!
Awesome screed board Mr Sam!! 🤘🇺🇸
You guys are going to make some fun forever memories with that pool
Good to see you guys doing great things for the kids and family.
Awesome, should be a fun time for everyone
I have the same pool and we absolutely love it.
Lovw your new pool, enjoy it boys !!! You and Angea to!!!
Sam can you PLEASE 🙏🏼 go over how you keep the pool clean? Like the chemicals/treatments you have to use. I know nothing about that and that’s the only thing keeping me from getting a pool similar to this
That's a cool pool! Good to see the family has a fun place to go to and relax after all the work you all have done. Be happy, and be blessed.
You could get some netting and hang it around the sides of the pool and from poles that are higher than the sides of the pool so it catches the toys that come out.
Simply love the pool. can't wait to see decking. great leveling idea not to disturb the drainage I really needed that tyvm.
Looks good! I’m sure your family is really enjoying it!!
Great job everyone! I love your pool! It’s nice!
OH WOW! the boys must be thrilled to bits , to have this magnificent pool to play in . next thing i expect to find is you in speedoes as a pool boy so Angela can watch you as she lays on a lounger with a cocktail in her hand.
Awesome job. The whole family will enjoy it.🏟🏖
When my in-laws put in a pool for our kids my father-in-law put a water filled foot tub at the bottom of the ladder for them to rinse their feet in to help keep the pool clean.Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
So glad to see you guys it’s been a while , love watching your videos 😊
Oh Boy.
Awesome pool, what refreshing fun that will be this summer.
