How to Bend and Cut 20 mm PVC Conduit (90 Degrees Bend Using a Bending Spring)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июн 2024
- Students training aid on how best to put a 90 degrees bend in PVC conduit and cut and square the ends. Includes a full demonstration on how to bend PVC conduit to 90 degrees keeping the bending radius at 2.5 times the diameter or bigger. We look at BS 7671 On-Site Guide for details on the position of the saddles.
In this video I demonstrate my technique for putting a 90 degree bend in PVC conduit without bending the conduit over my knee. This method of bending PVC conduit make it easier to conform with the minimum bending radius of conduit as stated in BS 7671.

Excellent tutorial. No banging music or "wannabe showmanship" just good advice. Thank you👍
I warm my "conduit" like that most evenings...!
Please don't use the bending spring during that process.
@@tollav : No Pain, No Gain... ... ...
Brilliant instructions so easy to understand, thanks to the Tutor 100% and YES it works
Thanks for the positive comment 👍🏻
Commenting from America, I’m a California state certified electrician. This is totally different from how we do things very cool to watch and see how other countries do things
Thanks Garrett 👍
Yea to be fair tho it’s he UK pvc is Ass not like our sched 40 and 80z. It looks like they use sprinkler pipe
Wow. Never even heard of a spring bender until a few moments ago. Thanks for the tips! My work's going to be a bit smoother this week 👍
Thanks for commenting and watching 👍🏻
The warmup trick of the PVC Pipe is great - thanks
Thanks for commenting and watching
Great video. Thanks Gaz. Good warming wrist action btw.
Useful information for us armatures who don't do serious installing, didn't realise the black conduit could be bent just by a bit of friction heat. Planning to add a second outside light and have used glued joiners in the past.
Hi thanks. Glue all joint sadly at college we need to reuse the accessories so no glue. This video ruclips.net/video/Z1VW93u_5pU/видео.html has one of my learners using PVC cement 👍. Thanks for the comment and watching GSH Electrical 😁
OMG! This is so simple and easy tool! Every construction ought to have one!
Appreciate the video - thank you.
Very helpful 👍🏼
Another great tutorial, cheers Gaz
Massive thanks for the support. 🦾Gaz
Thanks for that!!
Nicely explained Mr Hayers 💪
🦾💕🦾
Nice video 👍
Very good 👍
Great tool for bending pvc i use it too but it is not common here in the Philippines i sold my bender when i was in midle east
Wow. I never knew you could bend plastic conduit. I always use elbows. Thanks
Ur stupid
Mr Panda some people don’t do DIY that doesn’t make them stupid.
Thanks for the video =)
👍🏻
I use a copper pipe cutter, it gives a clean square cut, no burrs and no vice. But AM2 would fail this method?
Good point on saddle spacing 300mm from boxes and corners.
18th Edition requires metal saddles all rooms and corridors to prevent access priblems in the event of fire.
Hi thanks for commenting this link will also help 👍 ruclips.net/video/K0UM_bL4dJc/видео.html all the best Gaz
I passed 236 part 2 in 1991 and 16th in 1993 but did not get JIB card.
I worked on industrial machines and moved to Thailand 12 yrs ago.
If I was to pass 2391, 18th and AM2 could I get JIB Aprooved status?
Or is the lack UK work a show stopper for NVQ3?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Does this also apply for running conduit around the wall in my garage for lighting and switches? Also installing two plug sockets on the wall.
Yet another professional video using the spring wrong.
Yet again another idiot who comments criticising the video being made without explaining how it's incorrect good job pal.
Best tip I was given is don’t let the bend decide where it wants to settle. Slightly over bend and then, with the spring still in, jerk it back to 90.
That way the pipe won’t slowly loose some bend and leave you with 85.
We did thousands of “hockey sticks” and never had a single one that wasn’t still at 90 when it finally got installed.
Cheers.
Hi. Thanks for watching GSH Electrical
You mention a minimum bending radius of 2.5 x conduit diameter. Can this be found in BS7671 or the OSG? If so, could you tell me where? Thanks
Osg table D4
Wow your PVC is WAY more flexible than what we use in Canada. I have to heat PVC with a heat gun here till it goes "noodle consistency" then bend and let it set to cool in that bent radius. After it cools you cant really flex it much.
Hi. Thanks for that information and watching all the best GSH Electrical 👍
He is using PVC conduit not PVC. It has much thinner walls. In the US we use the gray conduit and have to use heat as well.
what is the intro song btw? i know it from somewhere and it bugs me that i cant remember where from
aaron sharp sadly I don’t know but if you find out can you message me. 🦾

Please make us videos on how to install electric conduit pipe on a building plus wire.
4 :16 -👍
Earth ring outside ?
What is the name of the tool that you use to remove the inside of the pipe
Michael Fisher bending spring 👍
GSH Electrical I think he meant the deburring tool. Taper reamer?
hi,
love to see your channel im electrician from the Maltese isle we have the same rule as you as Malta is an ex colony of Britain but we work slightly different but as i use a lot the spring and so how you hook up is totally wrong sorry to say this but i work a lot with it ,l hook it up totally different l pass the wire true the spring so when you pull out the spring you close the spring instead of open because it also,l like to bend the pipe on my knee find it lot easily great show you have keep it up
Hi GSH Electrical; I'm electrical engineer and have 15 Years of field experience in electrical installation & erection. I like your tutorial videos and I was thinking how can we collaborate and establish a full training centre here in Kuwait?
Hi great question 🤔👍
@@GSHElectrical So, what happened?
In reality we dont really do it like this, but this is for students.I have never seen that tool to correct the inside of the conduit.
But then i am not a englishmen or american.I am a Dutch electrician. And that warming is only needed when its cold.Normal temperature and it goes fine without.Except for the halogenfree conduits. They are more brittle.
Hi. The bending spring is widely used in the UK for bending PVC conduit. All the best and thanks for watching GSH Electrical
You say 20mm conduit and a 20mm bending spring?, my conduit is 20mm but a 20mm spring will not go inside as the internal size is 15mm
If you asked to a 15mm bending spring you would get a plumbers spring for copper pipe. Thanks for commenting and watching. Gaz
Warming the conduit can be awkward without a cloth
True
Why not use a plastic pipe cutter? They're super quick, accurate, and clean (zero burrs)
Hi. We have plastic pipe cutter now it always comes down to cost in colleges. Thanks for commenting and watching GSH Electrical 👍
I want to buy....... Gi Cunduit bending machine
Should of mentioned about the different size spring for different grades a heavy gauge is a smaller spring
should 'of'?!?! maybe you mean should have...
@@alistair1978utube ye that aswell
he was so serious back then
Does anyone actually do this in Britain? I had to do it in college but I've never once seen it done on a site.
The bending over the knee is to tight to conform to BS 7671 more often than not and it also looks better when you do it this way.
@@GSHElectrical No I meant actually use a bending spring. PVC conduit is rarely used here and when it is we just glue up manufactured bends.
@@solidus784 doesn't seem to be used in England but in Northern Ireland we use it all the time, you can suit the bend for whatever you want and the cables don't get caught in the bend like a manufactured one
@@astonpowers911 we use it the South but not that often. We use 22mm oval in chases
@@solidus784 it's interesting the difference in the north and south, I've done work in the south and the twin and earth is different than up here with the already insulated earth, and I have never seen Oval on a site here I would count it as old school
Isn’t it better to measure where the bend should be
😁😆
"juz" the flexi pipe.. "mait" ;-)
Depends on the pvc conduit how easy it is to bend. Some are softer than other brands. In winter definitely warm the pipe.. Or it can shatter.
Thanks for the comment GSH Electrical 👍
Rather than carrying three different tools to achieve a clean finish on the conduit, why not use the rothenberger conduit slicer. Less weight and less time wasted titting about with all the tools. Plus you can perform the cut with the conduit in the hand aswell without needing to rest it while you cut.
ruclips.net/video/2HlgNZzFsZE/видео.html
😁👍
Gsh electrical 👍. I fit electric gates and use the conduit slicers over hacksaw any day. Matey with the hacksaw was whacking away trying to get it done while other matey with the slicers barely moved. Cheers for the reply, cool videos too!👍
Elbows are best, someone had a video with hot sand? I have tried hot water, what electricians use in the UK is either a 20mm or 25mm garage spring slid down into it with a bit of single core wire and bending with your knee.
DO NOT DO THIS YOU WILL PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR KNEES.
YOU WILL END UP WALKING WITH A LIMP.
It’s not a garage door spring, it’s a conduit bending spring, a tool made specially for the job. Even bending over your knee, which Gaz doesn’t do, doesn’t put enough pressure on the body part to cause any damage as the pipe is thermoplastic and very easy to flex when warmed. Not sure what you meant by “elbows are best,” do you mean conduit elbows are preferable to bends?
put your hands close to the place you want to bend the conduit lay your arm on it press your elbows down and together. I
It works more easy cerranely with 25mm Conduit.
Geoff kapes
I am a Viking 😃... looks cool my way no knee needed 👍...
Geoff Capes you mean, but more like Philip Glass ...
Why don’t you use a cutting tool. Look for a Dutch instruction move for bending
The well-made rotate perceptually scrub because yew perceptually end before a complex drain. hissing, whimsical curtain
It's easy to tell that you're not paying for that conduit...Far too much waste!😳
It’s a college training video 👍🏻. Thanks for commenting and watching. Gaz
@Andy When I was training apprentices in conduit always used this approach, when they get experienced it will be more precise in measuring setting and hardly any cutting otherwise you will end up with a pile of wasted sets THATS WASTE
@@dav01kar I just taught them how to do it properly from the start...simple really when you know what you're doing!
