i genuinely look forward to this video every year. sammy your passion for films makes me so excited about this art form, and you always introduce me to new films that i would never have heard of, while also so eloquently putting into words exactly how i feel about some that were also my favorite (the worst person in the world more specifically lol). thank you so much for sharing and i can't wait for next year's list!!!
Anyone else feel like they're just sat on a sofa with a cup of tea and an old friend taking about movies during these videos? It's so comforting in such an uncomfortable time
I look forward to this video of yours every year. Not ONE time have I seen a single one of these movies. I still enjoy it, because while I'm NOT a cinemaphile, I just love a good story. And I love how much YOU love these films. BLESS
here's the list! 10. *mad god* (trippy basement stop--motion horror) 9. *the reason i jump* (documentary of the non-verbal autistic experience) 8. *flee* (animated documentary of an afghani refugee's story, gut-wrenching) 7. *power of the dog* (jane campion's western, cinematic and slow with a twist) 6. *spencer* (biographical with an intimate approach, 'fable from a true tragedy *we love to love k stewart) 5. *titane* (? the less you know the better apparently, but wholesome horror is what i gathered?) 4. *the worst person the world* (life-story of a woman grappling with her flaws) 3. *the humans* (multi-genre family drama, thoughtful, moving; 'quiet beauty and crushing pain of existence') 2. *mass* (dealing with the aftermath of a tragedy, great screenplay, single location, unsettling and beautiful) 1. *'c'mon, c'mon* (optimistic, hug-of-a-movie, found family kind of, quietly profound) hon. mentions: the souvenir 2, west side story, licorice pizza, the rescue, the french dispatch, red rocket, anette, the green knight
I watched C’mon c’mon on a random Thursday evening and I was literally the only person in the whole theater, which was nice in a way because I got to cry my eyes out with nobody around, but it also made me sad because it made me realize how few people were going to go out and watch this beautiful film. It was #2 on my list for the year behind Inside, and I actually applauded aloud in my apartment when you announced it as your #1.
I love hearing your yearly picks because we always have such similar taste. Cmon cmon was my #1 this year, too. It was one of the few movies I was able to see in theaters last year and I'm so glad I was able to.
While I am admittedly not super tuned into the film scene and have seen a grand total of zero films on your personal list, my personal favorite film I saw last year was Pig. Such an intimate look at one man's experiences with grief, and the acting and directing made everything pop in just the right ways for me.
I LOVE to see The Humans get such a deserved shout-out! It's such a spectacular play, and such a tremendous adaptation, and it felt like it really fell under a lot of people's radar.
i know you said biopics aren't really your thing butttt Andrew Garfields portrayal and commitment to the role of Johnathan Larson is, alone, deserving of a mention for Tick Tick Boom. I'm glad he was able to be recognised by the Baftas and the academy as I feel he truly does deserve it.
Always happy to see this video in my feed! I've usually seen a lot more of your lists but a lot of these are new to me, keen to get watching. Some of my highlights this year were The Lost Daughter, Summer of Soul, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Birds of Paradise, The French Dispatch and Tina :)
Of the films that came out this year, I really liked Titane, 143 Sahara Street by Hassen Ferhani (a documentary about a woman who runs a little shop at the limit of the Sahara in Algeria, it's wonderful), and The Divide by Catherine Corsini (a comedy about a woman admitted into z hospital because of a broken arm as her longtime girlfriend is about to leave her and the Yellow Jackets movement is happening, very funny imo but some of the humour might not translate if you're not french). Mad God looks incredible and terrifying, I can't wait to watch it !
Everything hurts much lately. I want to watch these movies but I can hear the silence when they're over. I see things exist in the room, smells scent, the warmth of a blanket felt, the sound of a humming laptop heard ... But alone, at the gate after egress from these impactful experiences, I feel ... Disconnection
It's really cool seeing all these mostly indie movies instead of all the main stream ones everyone's been talking about as of late. However, hearing someone compliment Amy Schumer was the most surprising thing out of this entire video
i personally would add coda and pig to the list, loved both a lot, also really liked drive my car even tho it was a bit long maybe. Mad god is absolutely brilliant! On the other hand i did not like titane as much as i liked raw, still a pretty good movie but it left me with a bitter aftertaste.
Great picks! a few here I've discarded but now realise I should probably give a watch. Was suprised to not see Drive My Car, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, or Dune on here. What do you think of those? They're some of my favourites from last year.
I was worried when Dune wasn’t on the honourable mentions list and then when the list was getting closer and closer to the number 1 spot. I was thinking “please don’t let Dune be number one!” I watch these videos of Sammy’s each year to hear about films I would have otherwise never heard of. I have seen enough film reviewers on YT gush about Dune to last a lifetime!
So many movies I haven't watched, which I will definitely check out now. Also I was kinda waiting for Promising Young Woman to be mentioned but maybe that's just me...
I won’t ever forgive you for getting rid of your sexually frustrated robot song, I think of it from time to time and never hearing it again really sucks
i was wondering what he was doing now, and now i know, yay
Oh hey, you're right! Isn't that clever and nice? :)

look forward to these every year, your appreciation for film is such a lovely thing thank u
Im so SO glad for the C'mon C'mon love. I've barely seen any talk about it and I adored it.
Oh hey Sammy!! So happy to see this in my subscription box ☺️☺️
I watched C’mon c’mon on a random Thursday evening and I was literally the only person in the whole theater, which was nice in a way because I got to cry my eyes out with nobody around, but it also made me sad because it made me realize how few people were going to go out and watch this beautiful film. One of my favourite videos every year! Thanks sammy
Those top 3 sound fabulous. I’m a sucker for a road trip film, so, good to see that got your top spot in the end
As always, thank you for sharing this list. I feel like life sometimes pulls me so far away from film and your round up always brings me back.
Was waiting for this video! Thanks!
Also always funny to recognize other RUclipsr's homes :)
Your yearly top tens inspire me to consume and enjoy so many more films than I otherwise would have, thank you 🙏🏼
Ahhh I’ve been wondering if the tradition would continue! Yes!
While I am admittedly not super tuned into the film scene and have seen a grand total of zero films on your personal list, my personal favorite film I saw last year was Pig. Such an intimate look at one man's experiences with grief, and the acting and directing made everything pop in just the right ways for me.
Been looking forward to this. Real happy to see Flee here
I LOVE to see The Humans get such a deserved shout-out! It's such a spectacular play, and such a tremendous adaptation, and it felt like it really fell under a lot of people's radar.
Johnny Greenwood is probably my favourite film composer ever. Such an amazing talent
I look forward for this video every year! Took a lot of notes and will definitely look into those, thanks Sammy!
I was a bit confused seeing you and not Evan with that background :D
hahahaha
same! went into an alternate reality for a sec
i know you said biopics aren't really your thing butttt Andrew Garfields portrayal and commitment to the role of Johnathan Larson is, alone, deserving of a mention for Tick Tick Boom. I'm glad he was able to be recognised by the Baftas and the academy as I feel he truly does deserve it.
absolutely agree, it was an amazing film
I have now added 8 new movies to my ever growing “films to watch” list.
Thank you Sammy x
See you again next year!
Thanks Sammy! Appreciate the detailed list, nice to see you once in a while :)

still capping off the videos with the mac error tone 👌🏼 atleast some aspects of 2010 era youtube have survived 🖤 - great reviews and roundup’s bro :)
Happy to see this in my Subscriptions!! :D
Sad to not see tick tick boom here, but good list non the less

All good movies, specially Drive My Car!
yay, always love watching these!!
What a wonderful video!
In which Sammy describes some of his favourite films of the year as "horrible".
babe wake up what i’m doing now just posted
YES! THE HUMANS AND MASS HAVE BEEN SO OVERLOOKED THIS YEAR!!!
And Spencer’s just been added to Amazon Prime; two top 5s to go and watch now :)
What is the Scott pilgrim noise at the end of the video called? I think it'd be cool as a phone notification sound.
Is this... Evan Edinger's apartment? or do you two have similiar interior design !
ohpe nvm just read the description aha
taste!

Right off the bat, I have to ask. Where can you watch mad god. It looks amazing

Titane is on MUBI right now! I’m watching it! It’s very fucked up!
I would have loved for Belfast to have been on the list. Affected me very greatly.

@@ICOEPR this took a while. Did you only just watch it?
So many movies I haven't watched, which I will definitely check out now.
Also I was kinda waiting for Promising Young Woman to be mentioned but maybe that's just me...
Promising Young Woman was on his 2020 list I think :)
I won’t ever forgive you for getting rid of your sexually frustrated robot song, I think of it from time to time and never hearing it again really sucks
I’m so sorry.
