496 - MG V2 Gundam Ver.Ka (OOB Review)

- Here's the Master-Grade 1/100 scale V2 Gundam Ver.Ka! I've got a lot of mixed feelings about this MG: I love Katoki kits, I like the V2 design, I like the fact that this kit comes with a load of waterslide decals, but I don't like how troublesome the Gundam can be simply because of the ability to transform.
Thanks again to MindFenix Hobby Store for hooking me up with the kit!

Finally built mine after 8 months. As for upper arm problem, the pegs isn't going in all the way, you need to take off the shoulder armor piece, push the shoulder fame into the upper arm. If you still have problem with that, shave the upper arm piece a bit so the pegs can go deeper. Added a pegs onto the trigger fingers part and V2 can do shoot down the barrel pose with nade launcher with no weight issue. No spread on legs is sad for posing but that is the because of how V2's hips look's and transformation.
Man, I love the design of this kit. The colors look great too. Too bad it is difficult to find at a reasonable price. I hope they produce more.
I am amazed we got a V2 ver. ka before we got a 2.0 for the ZZ Gundam.
supercell615 it's coming and I am so happy for it
I know! I'm so excited for the ZZ Ver Ka as well! It's actually my favourite Gundam, so I hope they make it amazing.
supercell615 the ZZ is basically a flying tank
Need a ver ka kit of the mk2
And the assault buster is out through premium bandai. Got mine preordered.
Wait didn't katoki originally design all the victories? so wouldn't it be more correct to call them the victory Gundam ver ka ver ka XD
Nathan Tse Yes.
Yes but ver ka kits aren't just mobile suits designed by katoki.
If that would be the case then the ex s, deep striker or Delta plus would've been ver. Ka kits
@@Gunpla_shrimp i think you missed his point fam. the actual gundam was designed by katoki, like the tallgeese.
so its a ver.ka version of a katoki original. thats the "joke" a ver.ka ver.ka
have you ever built the original Victory MG kit?
+jabman025 The V-Dash, yes! But I honestly don't remember it well. I do remember it was frustrating though.
Just like watching the series
Agree..to many loose parts
Sorestar Bing yeah body parts
Fuck you p, V gundam is a great series.
Unfortunate but not unexpected. Despite the way this kit looks and it looks amazing, I'm glad I picked up the HG. But like you said, if you get a kit like this you should know what to expect. It's a "ver. Ka." Great review!!
Did this guy really just made a 24 minute review of a model kit without going through any of the articulation or transformation? OK then.
Lol u stole my discord profile pic I feel insulted
@@Gunpla_shrimp And to think that my discord profile is Galaxy Eyes Cipher Dragon lol
He does explain it (at length), he only just doesn't show it.
Thanks for the review. I was contemplating the MG 1/100 V2 ASSAULT BUSTER GUNDAM Ver. Ka expansion until watching this review.
Alexis Williams Nah the Assault Buster has improved frame parts to make the base V2 stronger. Apparently its much better
Assault buster is an 8/10 where of V2 ver ka is a 5/10
did anyone else have issued with the elbows falling apart? i know lots of people had issues with the shoulder attaching to the arm, but the fact that the elbow is on a simple hook has never worked well for me. if i try to move it too much the elbow just completely falls off.
Going to modify all the fiddly bits to make this thing more solid, don't plan on transforming it, and its kind of nice that i have 2 core fighters worth of parts to experiment with. Going to see if i can fix the gaps in the chest and make everything align properly.
in all transformation MG gundams what do you think is the best for the bigger who like transform kit
These Ver ka kits are just amazing.
Just broke all the parts off the runners for paint. Hopefully the paint makes the kit more solid. Will see how it goes
Hey I know it’s late but you could use some blu tac for the landing gear
I really like it when core fighters come with gunpla, I love that the core fighters for this kit come with different pilot figures. Uso and Marbet if I remember correctly. anyway my complaints when it comes to core fighters on MG kits is that they usually only come with one core fighter and sometimes they don't come with action base connectors, but when you do come with action base connectors they're usually for the Action Base 1 and a 1/100th scale core fighter is way too small to dedicate an entire action base 1 to which makes me wonder why they don't include an action base 2 connector for core fighters.
I just got the MG Crossbone Gundam and not only does it only come with one core fighter it doesn't include an action base connector at all, the only version of it that includes an action base connector is the P-Bandai versions but since you still only get one core fighter the action base connector is completely useless.
Description seems wrong stated 1/144 scale.
Oops! Thanks~
To be fair. It's the size of a large sized 1/144 scale.
Already buy it and build it and my kit have problems with arms - they are so loose especially in holding something in hands and in bending
Other parts are ok
I love this kit and his transformation but what I don't like - his weapons because he can't hold it normally
Thanks for review!
Is the v fin normal plastic or some harder to break material ?
This is my most favorite protag Gundam.
I actually searched V Gundam for the core fighter transformations XD
Hey zaku, you're the best!!! 👍
Thanks!
looks great
Good to know that the V2 gundam is just as awful as the V-Dash gundam. I get that they kinda had to include the full transformation in a MG kit. But the instability it causes just makes both kits impossible to do much with.
How do you paint the little Pilate figure
I'll do a video on that later!
What action base??
Hey ZakuAurelius! I know timing may be off since you posted this over a year ago,
but I just finished building my V2, was really pissed and discouraged
about the upper arm problem.. I couldn't help but mess with it some more and
figured out how to fix it! i I was wondering if you ever messed with it
any further and fixed it yourself? If not lemme know!
Dylan Bove May I ask what you did to fix the issues? I bought this kit because I love Victory Gundam. I'd love some tips before I eventually get to it.
Maaaan I like the look of this thing soo much :o too bad its not a great kit.
That sucks cause that kit looks soooo good
Looks like you got your wish granted. We're getting an Assault buster set.
Wish they had The Assault Pack and Buster Pack
I'm sure that was considered as a P-Bandai set. But it seems for now they have decided to hold off.
@ZakuAurelius
The Assault Buster parts are available on Premium bandai now. the parts alone are like 2500 yen, the full V2 + AB pack is 7500
He made that comment over 2 years ago. Did you really think he may not know about the MG Assault Buster? Thanks for the LOL
@@GuntPulp And now he is going to make a review of it
Does it need to be tamiya paint to paint gunpla
Not necessarily.
The beam rifle with the little bottom bit opened looks like Crow from MST3K but with a gun barrel for a nose.
still its beautiful to see
i am 3 people and i wanted to see the fighters. jk love your reviews
Looks so much better without all the decals.
That MG looks barely bigger than the origin zaku 1 hg.
Oh, the kit actually looks pretty cool. So I'm guessing this kit necessarily has to be on an action base then.
+LatencyProblem Actually no, I prefer the look of it just standing (like the box art)
+ZakuAurelius hmm am I correct in thinking that this kit has a weird ankle joint? coz when its on the rotating base it cant seem to plant its feet firmly on the surface. lasty, I find the lack of a universal hip joint disturbing for such a late MG
I think bandai would have been better off not constraining them selves to 1/100 scale on this kit. if they made it non scale, say 20% larger they probably would have been able to cram all the transformation and other gimmicks they wanted into. The kit would have been better off.
After building this, victory, v dash, and the core booster. do I think these are cool? Hell yeah, they're amazing! it's great to see what a company is able to come up with, if these came out 1995, it would have been the coolest thing.
In short; pretty cool for what they had to work with, bring glue.
I'm of the opinion that kit is great for what it is. I fully enjoyed all the victory kits despite the short comings. I accept that there are detractors of this kit. They have some very valid arguments. I still think people may judge this a bit harshly, and miss some amazing technical feats of the kit.
Now, there is no hard, fast rule that MG kits have to be 1/100. why not make this the size of the unicorn. A non scaled size would have its benefits. It would give bandai more room innovative engineering. A more complete and solid transformation. maybe even a gimmick for the beam saber to pass into hand, similar to the line art.
Just some thoughts.
Yes, master grade thus far has always been 1/100. And we the fans have come to expect that. But, it's Bandai's game, they can play with scales, materials, designs and call it what ever grade they want.
My point was Bandai could have changed scale to 1/60 or any larger scale for the V2, Given a different/better product, and potentially sell more units.
They are a toy company after all, profit is king.
Quasi related, the 1/60 victory 2 stands up fine on its own. the 1/60 assault buster is a little wobbly but ok.
I agree with your current and previous statements in this exchange. I agree that 1/60 kit for a show of questionable popularity in franchise of so many offerings is a gamble. I simply wanted to provide hypothetical solutions to a problem that some people seem to have.
Now if we are gonna play the, if I were bandai game. I would ax all other scales aside from 1/144. By the time marketing, materials, development, and distribution are take in, you probably break even. And with inflation and a shrinking core market. anything other 1/144 scale is probably a loss leader.
fuzzyhawk down they already made a 1/60 V2 back in the 90s. It had its chance.

This is why I enjoy the Gundam community. A (MOSTLY) sane huge group of individuals whom are perfectly capable of having a sophisticated and calm conversation without it devolving into utter crap-shooting. I applaud you both, and of course Zak as well.
How tall is he?
My first master grade was this and I'm disappointed with this to the point where I just keep it in core fighter mode but it's not my last master grade just this was dissapointing
It'd be kind of nice if they made a MG of the V2 sans the transformation option, probably be a lot nicer without that nonsense it sounds like as both fighter modes looked kinda...lame from the manual anyways.
I agree, but that's why it's great that the HG is so nice!
Built this yesterday and boy howdy is it flimsy
The beam fan is beautifullllllllllll
How many Beam Saber handles come with the kit? According to the wikia,is supposed to carry 4 handles,2 on each forearms
+Hiruma Berserker it only comes with 2 and it only has one in each arm, this is how victory Gundam has always been.
+Jango The Blue Fox Then what the hell did the wikia guys smoke?
*****
no idea. but the concept art clearly shows that it can only hold one in each arm.
vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/d/d7/Lm314v21-beamsaber.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120406092453
Jango The Blue Fox Wait, that's weird, didn't Zack took the beam saber FROM the red piece behind? Wtf Katoki
*****
the model kits aren't going to function exactly like the mobile suits in the shows.
Looks like a giant RG kit...very hand grenade feeling
Hey, Zakuaurelius. I have a problem with my MG Ver.Ka V2 Gundam. part F 19 didn't fit into the arm because it got damaged. How do I fix it?
As my first mastergrade, I thought I did a terrible job on it, but it was just that the thing was floppy. rip
Transforming MS + Ver ka = floppy mess
@@lordasian8476 The MG ZZ is not floppy lol
This is a well engineered kit and I'm glad I have it but you're right how the transformation gimmick negatively affects it. It's cool it's there but it limits its articulation and makes the frame less stable. That's why I'm cautiously excited for the upcoming MG ZZ Gundam ver ka that's coming out. I'm curious to see how bandai'll overcome the articulation problem with the transformation gimmick. (If they even address the issue....)
IDK this kit looks really solid
as a brick.
With kits like these where there's a transformation gimmick I always want to buy 2, so I can display both forms you know? That said I wish all kits came with clear connecting pieces.
+N00bManiac7 I know exactly what you mean! I don't feel that much with this kit, but others like the Zeta Plus or Delta Plus or Ex-S, yes, definitely!
This kit is a prime example of why i'd rather Bandai ditch core fighters and transformations, and instead focus on solidity and posability. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the engineering that goes into making a kit transform, but it's undeniable that these kits suffer in places where most people would rather that excel.
ZZ ver ka says hello
Rg unicorn also says hello
literally ZZ ver ka is giving a huge fuck you to every transformable kit out there,
i bought it and loved itt since
Rx 78 2 2.0 says hello
yeh but now has a technology to do it
they should really add screws again tbh for this kits
I'm happy with the way the kit looks and the transformation gimmick. The limited articulation and hands are a little disappointing but the kit is nicely designed and well constructed. I hope they release the assault buster parts for this! Though I think weight issues might be a problem
of course that bandai will produce the asault buster pack ... but it will be P bandai obviously xD
We'll see, eh!
+Gunpla Uruguay I'm thinking it will be more like the Victory Gundam Ver. Ka where they released the regular kit one year, then sometime after that, they released the parts to make the Vicyory Dash and after that they released both sets as one big box. Of course though, they did do a P-Bandai release of the Beam Effect expansion parts for the V2 last month.
+superzorro5 That would be awesome if that were the case. But that was also before the era of P-Bandai. I think we know where they'll go with it now, if it does get made!
just wait for the ova tv version
+10shot9miss da fuq? Victory Gundam wasn't an ova but a tv series. Do some research before barking. Also, longer shoulders are probably gonna be included with the Assault / Buster pack(s). Also, the official artwork of the V2 shows these shoulders, yet these ones are not that bulky, those are more the ones from the Assault pack.
***** well i didnt watch the series, thats why i said ova/tv version. learn to punctuate comments and dont go berserk please
10shot9miss Neither did I,but there's a thing called "slash" or / on your device,bruh
a lot of our of focus :P
+Raffaele Passarelli Yeah I know, sorry!
I'm having hard time putting it together.
would like to see thunderbolt anime vr.
Yeah looking forward to those as well
how about that camera defocus
Commenting 3 years later and after building the Pbandai variant of the Assault buster (the big box version with all parts included):
I have zero issues with the arm connection in the shoulder joint. It's perfectly in there, not problems at all. My singular gripe about the kit is the hands. They dont hold the BR very well at all, so i may need to find some replacement hands somewhere. other than that though, the kit is absolutely amazing and I only have the gripe about the hands.
The shoulder and hip joints included new updated parts in the recent P-Bandai release
The build design and the fun factor are worth enough to spend 40 bucks on this kit.
My reaction at first: wtf???
I waited so long for this kit and it's a flop. They should have went the MG Gundam origin route and dropped the core fighter gimmic.
Its because in the manga the rx 78 didnt have the core fighter system at the time
nothing worse then a floppy gundam. keep up the good work
+fakelife12 Floppy Gundam should be an actual Gundam.
+Jango The Blue Fox it would have big flight enabeling ears
fakelife12
I totally agree.
+Raijin Thundersoul I really liked the sinanju stein very ka. beautiful build. easily still one of my favorites
+Raijin Thundersoul haha I agree. I used a slip knot of mono filament fishing line to secure sinanju stein's gun to its arm. I don't mind modifying some things on a kit to get stability but when the whole thing feels like a wet noodle you regret even buying the kit. no bueno
For some people like me who don't care too much about the articulation of the kit won't mind about it though. And I understand why bandai decided to sacrifice the articulation on this kit so not gonna complain here.
The thing that bug me is, this is not a 1/100 scale and what do I mean for that? If you check up the photo review on ホビーの虜, they compared the MG to the old 1/100 V2 and you can clearly see that the MG is bigger than it should! They even sacrifice the scaling in order to pull of the transformation. Oh well, I'll still planning getting this kit tho because it does look pretty cool~
The worst Master Grade kit I ever bought and I own RX-78GP02 and 1.0 Zeta Gundam. And it’s not even due to the size.
You can't do much for the size since the V2 is a pretty small gundam, even in 1/100 it will be small
@@Serom_974 yeah but I also have the original HG 1/100 V2 and I feel it is so much better as far as overall stability than the MG Ver. Ka. The biggest problem with the Ver. Ka is the the “transformation gimmick, specifically the crotch joint where it splits.
Also want to point out that the original 1/100 HG V2 Gundam was so much more better as far as the stability as well as the transformation gimmick
i knew this kit was gonna be trouble.. u_u damn shame. Bandai really blew it! bad showing for MGs
+Fpsdood It's already a miracle that they've managed to make the kit the way it is. For the most parts it stays faithful to the core design of the MG line. If people want more stability and articulation then they should look at the Tamashii line or the HG line.
Really wish the connections from each major part was better...
This is really a 1 and done build...Possibility is decent but mine doesn't want to hold.
Lazy
Once again for anyone trying to compare V Gundam to G-Saviour: G-SAVIOUR SUCKS. G-SAVIOUR FAILS ON EVERY LEVEL. IT IS AN EPIC PHAIL FILLED WITH PHAIL. Apparently it got a pretty good model kit though.
Oh, you want to keep your sanity?
DON'T BUY THIS KIT.
TinfoilGaming This was actually my first master grade. It was hell....
+Nathan Phan you poor thing. My first MG was the Thunderbolt Gundam Ver. Ka......
I still have nightmares.
TinfoilGaming
My first MG will be coming in the form of DeathScythe EW... Thankfully I reviewed around.
Does RG Sinanju count toward hellish experience?
I kinda think this kit was made for UC fanboys, so they`d shut up about it.
