Back when she was in high school there was a video of her running a race. I think it was a five or 10 K. She won by a wide margin, but the most remarkable thing I noticed was her ponytail. During the whole race, it never bounced side to side. Just up and down. Her form was perfect, no wasted side to side movement at all.

Yup, what a lot of people don't realize is that Katelyn's teammate, Kelsey Chmiel, is also one of the most talented runners ever coming out of HS. Kelsey was top 5 at NXN every single year in HS (including winning internationally in Great Edinburgh) and became All American in the NCAA right from the get go.
These two have been on the top of their game since the 8th grade and continue to develop into stellar athletes, now being teammates instead of rivals. Anytime they are in a race they are a factor. They both could go pro if they wanted to right now, but of course they are outstanding students as well and value their education. They will do amazing things wherever their path takes them.

Tuohy is such a class act and is doing well as a college runner, but she's still not close to being competitive on the world stage, which is something we'd all like to see her become. If she can get her 1,500m time under 4:00 and her 5,000m time under 14:45, she'll start being taken seriously. She looks like she's added some strength, and if she stays healthy, hopefully she'll reach those marks this spring in outdoor.

Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals! Her fundamentals are excellent and have been for many years. Fundamentals are not just important in the actual execution of motion but in many other things as well. Focus, patience, determination, practice routines, personal commitment to one's goals, relationships, finances, discipline in every area, respect for others, and behavior away from the event site, along with other elements.
If one wants to become elite, one must stay focused on the fundamentals of their craft, no matter what craft it is, but also the fundamentals of discipline in as many areas as possible. The better one's fundamentals, the less one need to rely upon luck to be victorious. Katelyn consistently demonstrates tremendous focus and discipline.

My wish is that Katelyn takes good care of her body and trains to get stronger each day w/o injury. It's a lot to ask. Injury is her biggest foe. At her talent level, she has to potential to set meet records that will stand the test of time.

Everyone is putting too much pressure on her. If she loses a race or two, no big deal. We ALL have off days. Even Jacob Ingeberske (spell?) loses now and then.

Katelyn is an American treasure. Her parents must be so proud. Well done Tuohy family.

She will win the Championship. She will not go undefeated. You asked, I delivered. And I could be wrong on that second one.

She's just such an impressive runner...runs so relaxed. Breaking 16 minutes in a 5k for cross country is impressive...i hope to see her break 15:30 cross country...after that she can retire.

The problem with being the odds-on favorite is that every other athlete is preparing with just one question in mind. It's not "how can I run a new PB," or how can I make a certain time," or even "how can I win," but simply, "how can I beat Tuohy?" Eventually, someone will come up with a way.

everyone in the country had the same thought for NXN too. she had a target on her back for three years but still no one could beat her. but she will have her hands full with Valby this year. shes a marvel herself. cant wait for that matchup.
