Great choice for this weeks lesson. You did a great job highlighting each part. The Cars first album truly was groundbreaking and still sounds ahead of its time today. Elliot Easton is one of my favorites and yes is STILL under appreciated.
What a first album for a group, Agree 100% about Elliot. Don't think of him with all the guitar gods of that time but his solos and work just fits so great and sound wonderful they add so much to the songs. you should cover All Mixed Up sometime. No one really has covered it good. Great work thanks
Loved The Cars! What a great band with the big 'devil-may-care' attitude! This is a good lesson on a simple song - but it's all about the 'all-important' groove and accents. The heavy guitar sound with 'light' keyboard flourishes was so good. Good stuff 12' Chain.
I’ve met them at dc in concert 1980 got high with the drummer with some Maui wawi good memories they told me to come along with them and be like back up drummer cause I’m professional drummer. They humble guy’s .
thanks man...i did pick up a few little nuances i hadn't noticed before; and elliot easton is indeed a master of tasteful playing/soloing...blessingszz to you always brother
Good stuff. I love playing Cars tunes for their simplicity in the rhythm but the melodic greatness of Mr. Easton's solos. Amazing how much you can do with the E major scale! If you haven't already, please do "Bye Bye Love" by them. The solo in that one is just a masterclass in playing the chord changes.
Awesome. The Cars need more love. I'd also really like to see something from REO Speedwagon. Specifically from High Infidelity. What a great album with tones of awesome guitar work. It's actually what inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place. I love this channel, keep on rocking!
Great video, The Cars are one of my top 5. Funny, I've never been tripped up by the timing of the intro. Don't know why. It always seemed like the upper strings on Ric's part were syncopated. I always wondered about that possible harmonic on Ric's part, thanks for confirming, because for a long time I just played the octave B.
Thanks for the rhythm tip. I have difficulty with that sort of thing; I'm like Steve Martin in "The Jerk" movie trying to pick up on the rhythm. Your explanation really cleared that up for me. One that really confuses me is Black Dog by Led Zeppelin.
How do you do it ? lol son-in-law heard this lesson & said ... "I love the Cars" I think it will be e-z enough for him to try to play bass part to. Thank-you, sir. Now i have to learn mine. From Les's hometown.
I would really like it if you would break down D.V.C.'s "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" (Le Roux) and "Teaser" (Tommy Bolin) by D.V.C. There's really great harmony twin guitar parts on both tunes!!! Teaser was also covered by Motley Crue as well. Lloyd Sarno ,Medina,Ohio
I am curious how you select the different guitars you use for each lesson? In this case, you use an SG. I realize different pickups can impact a choice or hollow body vs solid body for others. In future introductions, it would be interesting if you talk about why you are using each guitar for each lesson.
@@12footchain I love your channel and your opening discussion about the songs before you get into the lesson. Pete Townsend used different guitars like Clapton before settling on the Stratocaster. Keith Richards uses different guitars. Bruce only plays Telecasters. Chuck Berry only used Hollow Body guitars. Hendrix played Strats and Jimmy Page went from a telecaster to a Les Paul. Slash is an iconic Les Paul users. It is interesting the see difference guitarist chose different instruments. I admire all your different guitars hanging behind you. An interesting video could be you discussing your different guitars and their sound and what you like about them.
All good but you’re missing some of Elliot’s key parts. When the vocals go to “let them leave you up in the air let them brush your rock-n-roll hair” Elliot does some unison bend licks. In the second verses, when the vocals go to “if the illusion is real let them give you a ride” he does a lead line on then Low E and A strings. The unison bend leads are the more important of these. Having covered this song many times, I feel it sounds flat without them. Great video though and awesome song. Getting Rik’s intro to sound right takes work.
yeah i noticed I missed the unison bend after I posted it, and bummed I overlooked that. The other part on illusion is real though I'm pretty sure is keyboard and bass doing that, no special part on guitar there.
Elliot Easton is incredible. So melodic and catchy. Have learned the solos to “Best Friend’s Girl” and “Touch and Go” because they’re perfection.
Great choice for this weeks lesson.

You always include the awesome little nuances that make all the difference
That was killer! Thank you for this!
Epic lesson and insight 👌 Thank you.
Well well, what a great tutorial 12 Ft I have always loved The Cars since the debut album in 1978. Top Shelf ♪♫♪♫♪♫
Great tutorial. Have tripped over the downbeat on one countless times. Your explanation was most helpful.

One of the greatest records in history. I wore it out many times since the day it came out. Great job. Thank you.

One of my all time favorite Cars songs.
And Candio

Wow, great story. Would have been great to tour w them for a while
I never ever could lock in on those high E and B chord stabs rhythmically…I always got outta time on those…well done👍
Great breakdown!👏

I would love to see lessons on Rod Stewart's version of The First Cut is the Deepest and Reflections of My Life, please.
Thanks!
Thank you very much!

You look so awesome holding that Gibson.
Remember, it's the Gibson, you're just the guy holding it ;
Thank you kindly!
Nice! Any chance you could cover "The Way" by Fastball?
Oooh, good one! Yeah I'll get to that

YeahI jjust using whatever I think gets closest to the sound. But I'll try to outline that in future vids.

What a great problem to have. Which awesome guitar do I want to play today?

I distinctly remember thinking when the 1st album dropped that these guys were Roxy Music
Proof you do NOT need to shred to have great lead parts. Probably why Clapton was called slow hand. B.B. King using handful of notes very well.
Can you do "Dreams of Milk and Honey" by Mountain?
CLAVE', works well, with a Higher Pitch...
All those power chords, What key would this be in?
The interwebs seem to say it's key of E
You're a talker aren't you?😊
Eliot Easton is the greatest left handed lead guitarist of all time. Prove me wrong.
Lol. 2nd?
Jimi Hendrix?
Hendrix?
Eliot Easton is better than Hendrix. There I said it.
Have you ever heard of Jimi Hendrix?
Thanks!
Thank you!
