The Cars had a unique sound that kinda blew away DISCO which was prominent in the 70s. They ushered in the 80s with that and unlike other bands doing synth at that time The Cars were more popular and radio friendly. Plus it didn’t hurt that Benjamin was a part of that band ❤️❤️

Thank You Ric for providing so many memorable songs that I have connected with some of the best times of my childhood. You will dearly be missed. RIP Ric
One of my favorite songs from the Cars. I had a high school crush, when I was a Senior, in High School, and this song, the lyrics expressed how I felt, every time I saw the most beautiful girl in our school. This is exactly how I felt, when she was near: "When you're standing all so near, I kinda Lose my mind." That's right! I was in Heaven. I wish Rhino would digitalize and HD, these music videos. We have a new Generation who needs to appreciate this legendary Modern Rock Group. RIP Benjamin Orr, and Rick Ocasek. Your music and lyrics will be in our hearts
How many memories of my youth are intertwined with this song and others like it? The Cars did all of us a huge favor who had this song as a backdrop to our defining moments. Pounding out of the speakers as we cruised, giving us the beat at the prom, amping up the atmosphere on "that date with that girl". Amiright? They gave us a soundtrack for all of the times of our lives that even though they weren't epic or amazing to anybody else, THEY WERE EPIC TIMES TO US because when Ric took us by the hand and told us this story...it was our story! Play on, Ric! The thing you loved doing was just what I needed as I grew up. Peace, man. Sweet peace.
This bloody album in 1978 was literally the greatest music release year in history. This brilliant release along van Halen 1 and Boston 1..... what more could you want? Never to be repeated.

To hear them on the radio, you kind of just passively listen because they are always on, but when you intently pay attention, you realize just how good these guys were. Ben's voice and how he pronounced his words gave the songs a grunge type of style, yet they sounded very rock and roll as well. Incredibly unique sound that will live on. What a band!
@@jeffwade9052 Great band Jeff! They were kind of "new wave" on a couple songs and looks before new wave hit the mainstream. But they were really just a damn fine R&R band.

RIP Ric Ocasek. The Cars was the soundtrack of my generation. I absolutely loved their sound. Now, Ric Ocasek can join Benjamin Orr in heaven. God bless his soul and thank you for the great music.
These guys were the soundtrack to my h.s. years; 78-82; and are still one of my Top 5 fav bands of all time. Every intonation, every drum break, every solo I still have memorized. Thank You Ric for providing so many memorable songs that I have connected with some of the best times of my childhood. You will dearly be missed. RIP Ric
This is a song that could be put on repeat and never tire of it. ❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹

Rest in peace Okasic..and thank you for the music...it was just what i needed in my youth!
Rest peacefully. You're just what I needed. Won't ever forget your music with the cars. Fly high and rock on
A Masteriece, and that guitar solo!
So glad I got to see them live: Live Aid, 1985, Philadelphia, at the now demolished JFK stadium. Memories.....
R.I.P. Ric Ocasek, you never wrote even one bad song, not even one, everything you did was solid! Today's music can't hold a candle to it.
You get her or what?
No, I didn't get her.
What did she look like?
The Cars were absolutely awesome, Elliot Easton is a hell of a guitar player and Benjamin Orr was incredible on vocals…🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This bloody album in 1978 was literally the greatest music release year in history. This brilliant release along van Halen 1 and Boston 1..... what more could you want? Never to be repeated.
And throw in some Loverboy
Dont for get Kansas Toto the Police the 70s were fantastic.,
Back when MTV was just starting. I was 14 & cable TV was a box you had to get off your a$$ & push down on the buttons.. We never even owned a microwave lol. The music in the early to mid 70's to mid 80's/90s was unbelievable
Iconic. Epic. Way ahead of their time.
RIP Ric. So many great tunes. Also, Ben was so gorgeous.
I had such a crush on Benjamin Orr back in the day. May he RIP.
I have a crush on him RIGHT NOW!!!
Same! I have been crushing on Benjamin since I was a 14-year-old in ‘78. What a stunningly gorgeous human being and what a star. 🌟
Yeah I still have a crush on him. He’s scrumptious❤❤️
I am a guitarist of 40 years of playing, and I will tell you that these songs by the Cars are NOT easy to cover. They are tough to get down.
@@gib59er56wow, that says a lot too!! Thanks for the cool comment, it just confirms how good they really were.
@@jeffwade9052 Great band Jeff! They were kind of "new wave" on a couple songs and looks before new wave hit the mainstream. But they were really just a damn fine R&R band.
Just love this band. Saw them back in the day and just fell in love with their songs and Benjamin wow ❤
Im watching with a lump in my throat and with tears in my eyes . Rest in peace beautiful man .U have earned your place in the Sun .
Ben crushes it on this song. The solo rips too!
The Cars were the soundtrack to my youth. From the moment I heard Just What I Needed, I was hooked on the Cars. I am really devastated by Ben's and Ric's deaths. Ric was a true poet and artist. Their music is unique, thoughtful, powerful and timeless, and all four of them are amazing musicians and artists. I feel truly blessed to have seen them perform and to have met Ric and Greg. Thank you Ric, Greg, David, and Elliott for your gifts, and may Ric and Ben RIP.
I've watched this a thousand times'''''''''''''
thank you for your music Rick Ocasek and the cars love those good old tunes.... my childhood days...sending love from the Philippines
they rocked big time.. this is played a step over the album version
The sound on this video is the studio version pitch-shifted up a half step. Not live.
Love this video, Ben is looking real happy, they are very talented. Wish I saw them live.
One of the lucky ones to have experienced growing up in the 80’s to the songs of one of of the most unforgettable bands...thank you for defining the sound of our youth...RIP Ocasek and Orr
As a Kid from Boston, big thanks to the Magic Music of the Cars! Thank you Ric Ocasek, and Ben Orr for these songs which have stood the test of time.
