Three chords and the truth. Simple but effective. Genius. What a joy to live and breathe under the stars. Thank you once again for all your hard work....
Nice work! I heard The Cars on their first American tour, in Pittsburgh at the Stanley Theater, when they opened for The Atlanta Rythmn Section. They played the entire first album. There was a lighted sign hanging over the stage that said "CARS", and when the headliners Atlanta Rythmn Section took the stage, the "C" was removed. The Cars were fantastic. They blew the headliners away so badly, that half the of the audience left during Atlanta Rythmn Section's set. Kind of like 1977, when AC/DC on their "High Voltage" tour opened for Ted Nugent.
Have to agree what a sound not too pop not rock just cool, excellent guitar work really un noticed by most, Dave Robinson one of the first to use the electronic drums synths addition to his kit
This is great, the song is just a bit of a stretch for my current ability, so perfect to learn right now. Cool memorable tricks that can be used in other situations. Excellent, thank you.
Nod to the past from "new wave" group. A lot of 50's era in there. I agree with your hearing the cuffed rake, the notes work - but the break is better. Like racers know, ya' gotta know when to use the brakes. 🤨
Super Excellent Lessons . Could you consider transcribing Robin Trower ... I Cant Wait Much Longer , Winterland 1975 Concert . Caledonia , I Cant Live Without You . The Fool and Me . 🎸🎸🎸🎸✨✨✨✨
I think it's good when learning solos after a few licks to go " ok so far we have rhis" rather than digesting every lick start to finish . shut up & play channel also does a great lesson on this classic.
Thank you! It's a 70th anniversary Broadcaster, just a normal production one. The neck feels so good, absolutely awesome guitar. I now know why people always say Tele is their "if I only had one" guitar.
I record signal from the amp thru the mic in addition to what my lapel mic picks up, I mix it in during editing to get it to sound closer to what I hear in the room. The lapel mic kinda darkens it up a lot and is not great fidelity.
@@12footchain in concert all the amps are mic'd up never knew it's function..heck even bass drums are mic'd now...back in the late 50s..60s it was a big deal when we got reverb..played second guitar and some back up vocals...in Quebec..great times.....but your break down of cars best friends girl blew me away...well done sir.
@robertalan2427 thank you. Yes well now, or I guess since 70s they have good live PA sound at concerts, so all the instruments get mic'd in addition to the vocal mics so it can all get pumped put thru the PA.
Back in the day…. when the Cars recorded this.. the only way to make a taped song faster was to speed up the tape… but it bumped up the pitch.. soo… played it in E.. but now it sounds like F… Now,digital recordings can bump up the tempo without changing pitch.. Amazing.!
It’s not often you hear about the cars guitar parts on RUclips. This is awesome. Can’t wait for more.

The Cars weren’t IN a genre , they WERE their own genre and the only band to ever reside within it

This guy talks too much
Play more. Talk less
Rick got so much from so little. Kinda blows my mind
I loved The Cars ! Great band !
Great explanation of the chord shapes used in the solo. Finally understand what he was thinking!
The big solo sounds like Buddy Holly, in both tone and linkage. Awesome!
cant beat Buddy!!!!!
Great presentation
Another great lesson, very clear and followable. Very talented guitarist. Thank you, saves me a lot of work! Which is why I am subscribed!
Thanks!
Thank you very much Scott!

Great video -- I could never get the "I Will" fill right. I now have hope.
Thank you 12, such great content as always ♪♫♪♫♪
Master class of how to write a song!!!?? The Cars have all kindsa hooks, eh? TY, Doug!!!
Good job dude very well done
Great stuf as usual...thanks my man...
Thank you, consistently excellent and good fun
Like your song selection not many play Cars
Great! Thanks.
Thanks for all you do
Still struggling with the chicken pick, but think I will get it by next week. Have not even touched solo yet, lol
Love it. Need to work on not having the pinky go sharp on those bends in the lead. Thank you!
I had second row seats for a Cars concert in the Denver back in the day and they canceled the whole tour -- bummer.
Soooo good. Thank you
Great! I love your videos.
Nice setup
There's a video of Elliot playing that chick picking part,he explains what he did.its really cool

Easton seemed to be playing through the 1625 over the EAB. Jazz approach. Interesting.
Very good analysis thankyou.
Exactly! Te minor 6 is related to the 1, the minor 2 is related to the 4. Good analysis, wish I thought of that
EE studied Jazz for his brief time at Berklee when he wielded an ES 335 that was stolen. Subtly sophisticated player with great taste and tone. 😊
Brilliant thank 👍🏻

Cool ..!👍🏼
Brilliant lesson, thanks! Is the Tele an AVRI or a newer Original 50s?

They didn't speed it up on purpose, it was because they went from one format to another and they knew it but just decided to leave it that speed.
What is the function of the mic placedin front of the amp?⁰
I record signal from the amp thru the mic in addition to what my lapel mic picks up, I mix it in during editing to get it to sound closer to what I hear in the room. The lapel mic kinda darkens it up a lot and is not great fidelity.

Doug - I don't see the tabs on Patreon. Am I doing it wrong? Just got my mouse pads by the way -- excellent.
Sorry Ray - my bad. They are up now
Alvin Lee The Bluest Blue
Thanks Boss very cool instructional lesson. You are appreciated.
Are you to pray or play?
Love your videos but "just like the record" is in the key of "F" so why does everyone teach it in "E"?
I explain in the beginning. Everything on the lesson here can be done capo'd at 1 and shifted up a fret. They recorded it in E. Never played it in F
Back in the day…. when the Cars recorded this.. the only way to make a taped song faster was to speed up the tape… but it bumped up the pitch.. soo… played it in E.. but now it sounds like F…

Doesn’t sound anything like LED sound
for gods sakes demonstrate the part
Promo would have some class anyway, if it closed, not opening
?
Huh???
Omg really? :(
