    Its refreshing to see a solid drummer struggle through something.

    • @BrandonScottDrums
      @BrandonScottDrums  4 года назад +21

      It’s real! We all struggle through things and have weaknesses. Not many people show it, but I’m not afraid to share it! It’s what real practice looks like.

      I agree. I understand even the best drummers struggle with something but it's cool to see the process to build to greatness

    “Getting started “, yep that’s what it’s about, getting it accurate at the start. Your transparency is refreshing in how you reveal the process of learning a technique from the very beginning. Very appealing and human in scope and therefore it is encouraging, especially to beginning drummers.

      rhythmantic - Sal D'Amato Damn dude what a beautiful comment. Haha that’s exactly what I’m trying to convey with these videos. They’re not “lessons”, but instead an honest “Record” of the practice session and the issues I came across while learning something new. I’m glad people seem to be enjoying it and I plan on continuing to make more! Plus making these vids inspires me to practice new things as well so it’s a win for everybody. 😁🙏🏼

    Thank you, this is a very valuable lesson, because you don't present just the polished stuff like a lot of RUclips-drummers do. You show us how you struggle and fail - and how you solve your problems. Every beginner should watch this. And even the older guys like me can learn a lot.

    • @BrandonScottDrums

    This has always been one of the most "pain in the ass" exercises for me for years. So much work. Then trying to use it as a fill coming out of a groove and then back in on a dime is even more of a pain! Good stuff though. The tough stuff is always worth it.

  • @CumulusSkies

    #1 I love watching you play. Your so smooth. #2 I also really like that you include your process and “mistakes” in your vids. It’s nice to see I’m not the only one with challenges and goofs on the set.
    Thanks, Brandon!🤘🏽

    First saw this years ago in a solo Tony Royster Jr did in a video on YT and I was blown. For whatever reason I threw caution to the wind and set my benchmark at his speed which was insane. It took years to get there but the craziest thing for me is I can only achieve it going between (L hand R kick) or (R hand L kick). When I try it with the same limbs I bugger it up. Obviously, I still have work to do and your video has inspired me to sort my shit out. I REALLY like how you apply things in a groove and incorporate other techniques like 6 strokes & such into the lesson at hand. Really enjoy your vids man. Sorry for the long ass post and BIG THANKS.

    I’m on week 7 of this daily. Started it because I dig estepario. It’s been one of the most frustrating grinds of my drumming career. All I can say is keep track of your progress with a diary or video because the gains are so small there will be times when you don’t feel like you’re making progress even though you are getting tighter. Good luck everyone, stay strong 💪

    Brandon, I really like the fun vibe of your videos and your self-effacing nature. Your edits and text inclusions always give me a good laugh. I’ve worked on this stuff too, it’s a pain in the ass, but I’ve seen it used by a few of my heroes, like Steve Smith and Vinnie. Btw, have you seen the clip that Gregg Bissonette did about Vinnie’s version of something similar? It’s a 16th note quad between all 4 limbs: RH LF LH RF, using a double pedal preferably, to get a nice full sound. Pretty challenging, but up to speed it sounds monstrous. Needless to say I don’t have it down. Works in triplet feel also and is actually a bit easier to master that way. Thanks for your lessons!

    • @BrandonScottDrums
      @BrandonScottDrums  4 года назад

      Christian Lee Honestly I’m not thinking about the foot too much. My heel is off the ground and at the higher tempos it is difficult to keep the volume up. Trying to strengthen the foot.

  • @afrohop

    I’m interested in foot technique while doing this (heel up/heel down), spring tension etc. Do faster tempos demand a shift in foot placement on the pedal? Could you touch on how you keep the dynamics consistent? Great stuff bro!

    Working on the same thing. I alternate between L and R hand on every quarter note. Also put HH on quarter notes. This silly thing is harder than it looks because the kick wants to migrate to the down beats.

    Any tips on thinking of drum fills mid song?

    • @BrandonScottDrums
      @BrandonScottDrums  4 года назад +2

      Ben._. Faded Maybe don’t think TOO hard... sometimes I often ruin fills by thinking too hard about them ahead of time. And it feels like that 4th bar is approaching and I get some kind of anxiety. I’ve learned to try and ignore it and just play. But you need to build up that vocabulary with your licks and what not that way you can let the mind flow... build a foundation of licks chops or whatever, and then learn to not think while playing. That’s the best I can explain it haha hope this helps! 🙏🏼
