Thanks for watching Drumheads!
Comment your favorite part so the YT algorithm shares it to millions!
Then I can finally prove to my wife that staying up editing til 4am isn't a waste of time.
It is not a waste of time at allll it rlly gets more views
Have you tried #shorts? Those are going crazy with the algorithm right now
@@Merlincat007 oh yeahhh
Certainly not a waste of time! You are a wonderful teacher! I love how you chopped the groove up into smaller bites, so we could digest it better. Very helpful indeed.
That was an FX extravanganza! Well done. I will visual those tabs next time I drum, thnx.
“people clap on the 2 and 4”
people at my school assemblies: “1 and 3? got it.”
If you understand the clap as a hi hat, you have a perfectly fine off beat! There is no wrong in drumming
People at my school assemblies: *can’t keep a steady beat for the life of them*
Hey I know that guy at 1:57! 🙃
Thanks for letting me address the Drumheads! Also, I stole all of your drum sticks...
Thanks for visiting South Africa Gabe! I WAS WONDERING WHERE MY STICKS WENT... Better watch out, I'm going full National Treasure on your ass cuz that Meinl-Lisa... is gonna be "MINE-Lisa."
Haha awesome! I hope to see more of you both doing work together. You're both incredibly talented drummers! 🤘
Will there be DBO Academy lesson with Brandon Scott?
Was so happy to see you, considering y'all both remind me of having a similar editing style. Keep rockin!
2 of my favorite drummers in the whole world 😍
Look up the 5/4 trick by Harry Connick Jr. He's playing 4/4 but everyone is clapping on 1 and 3, so he plays 1 bar of 5/4 and the clapping shifts to 2 and 4. Cool stuff.

Genius
Yeah, classic.
Great channel dude. Production is 🔥🔥🔥
Exactly.
The term "Backbeat" has been around since Chuck Berry wrote the song "Rock and Roll Music" in May 1957. In the song he sings "it's got a backbeat you can't loose it". The Beatles and The Beach Boys also covered the song in the 60's and had hits with it. So, the term has been around long before the seventies.
The Beatles cover makes you wanna move big time
Dude the production value is killer
“When people clap along to music they’re clapping on the 2 and the 4.”
The Spanish: Hah! Amateurs!
[clapping in flamenco]
LOL
Brandon, the editing level just tripled. Production quality insane. Just keeps getting better. And looks like you added 15K subscribers yesterday!
Thank you!!
I absolutely agree, the editing is absolutely insane, like holy... Might be of my top drumming channels on youtube just because of the way how neat you present the information!
editing 💯
I don't usually comment but you've forced my hand. Your production gets better with every video, it's really impressive! Of course not to mention the great educational material that comes with it. Keep up the great work, dude!
I appreciate that! It feels good to get a comment from a fellow non commenter... I am the same ;)
So excited to continue watching you grow. Especially after watching your rom com backstory video.
Dude this is insane why are you so unknown? Your Video editing skills are SO on point and your humor ist fantastic too! I love your Videos keep going 👌
Thank you! I love the editing man, It's a whole art in itself.
Your editing skills *are* quite impressive, but so is your playing - so smooth and tight. Well done!👍🏽🤘🏽
someone def put a lot of hours into vfx haha its showing man and i like it
This guy is underrated as hell.
all videos in this channel is worth thousand dollar course price outside in ordinary course,
which sometime you didnt really understand what you've learned outside there in ordinary course..
today world is actually amazing

More like Funk
dave grohl is a master at shifting the traditional rock pattern into something interesting
Agreed. Carl palmer is also really good at it. He always shifts his snare hits
Then there was Stewart Copeland...
Misfits!
grohl is overhyped, please….learn music from better musicians
Maaan, I am speechless.... the editing skills are just off the roof + you managed to keep it educational and funny at the same time. Hats off to you dude, keep up the great work!
I've always wondered why 2 and 4 became the back beat and literally not anything else
It comes from the "tap-roll-tap-roll-tap" pattern found in marches that snare drummers play. The march was Americas first pop music craze beginning around 1850, through the civil war era and up to the early teens (1915). The first commercially produced jazz record (1917) has a bit of a March feel to it. The roll itself is usually a five stroke roll, a basic rudiment.
1:56 that moment when your two favorite drummers meet :D
😃
As a Music Producer, some reggae and ska have their own type of beat. They not only not in the 2 beat but also have a ghost notes before it.
Moving the 2 back to the “and” but keeping the 4 in place sounds like Chad Smith from RHCP. On Souk To Squeeze he moves the first and second measure 2’s back to their respective “and” while keeping the 4 in place but then goes straight 2 and 4 on the third and fourth measures. That’s one line that has eluded me. It’s nice to see it up on the board so I can math it in my head. Thanks Brandon!
Great video. Growing up in the middle of nowhere, long before the internet flooded us with an endless stream of free teaching material, I mostly had to teach drumming to myself. A lot of the time I'd spend hours just experimenting with moving stuff around a little and figure out what sounded good (you don't even have to be on a drumset necessarily). And while I wish I had only 10% of the material every aspiring drummer has on their finger tips these days, I think this freeform experimenting approach is still something younglings should do occasionally. It's amazing how deeply you can learn when you accidentally land dead-center in groove town on your own, without imitating what someone else does.
That has just set a new standard for video editing for me. Great lesson beginners and beautifully presented.
the amount of work you put in your videos tho
i don't even play the drums but i've been obsessed with them lately, can't believe i found a channel as cool as yours to learn more about it!
Start playing! That's your body telling you to play drums, don't ignore it and most importantly, be patient with yourself.
@@MaTTheWish oh!! i've never really considered trying to learn, but thank you! your comment kind of made me wanna do it haha
Get a pair of drumsticks and a practice pad! You can buy both for less than $50 and could even use something like a mousepad on a book. That way, you can start learning a few beats without making any big commitments. And, hey, if it turns out you're up for the journey, it'd be awesome to see other lady drummers out there....sometimes it feels like I'm the only one!!
@@exquisitecorpse4917 my dad actually owns a drum set! all i really need is the time and the willing to try it out haha but yeah, i also feel like we need more girls behind the drums! it's very nice to receive encouraging words from one of them, thank you 🤍
@@ana291crisDrumming is wonderful if you want a job in the performing arts. I don't know what your hopes and dreams are (and you certainly don't need to rush into any!), but mine was always to be on-stage, and drumming is a better way to achieve that than acting, juggling, magic, or wire-walking (all of which I've done). It turns out that every band needs a drummer, and every event needs a band, so you can make a part-time job out of it reasonably quickly.
But you do you. If that's drumming, welcome to the team! If that's something else, I hope it brings you all the joy
Those paper rhythms are sooo beautiful and cool, great lesson Brandon! Really enjoying your videos!
tropical trap beats are one of the more popular non back beat drum patterns. its cool
The incorporation of trivias and history makes it more fun and enjoyable! Your editing skills 10/10! Staying til 4am is justified lol 😂
The editing levels up every single video. Very impressive, keep killing it.
Dude I play the guitar and some traditional instruments. But I'm still going to stick around. This channel's content is just (fricking) epic.
Graphically brilliant Brandon! And the content 👏🇦🇺✌️
Awesome! You ROCK!!!
J Box and Skin n’ Snout are alive and well so far. Excellent video!
I'm 58 (today as it happens) and have played guitar in bands for 40 years without ever really understanding how and why the drum groove works. It was either on, or it wasn't. You've just enlightened me. Perhaps the best birthday present! Thank you so much.
That’s awesome man. Just shows your never too old to learn something new. Life is cool like that. Thanks for watching!!
your editing is the best i’ve been from any music related youtuber
...and I just found my new favorite channel. What up drum heads!
I love the fact that the intro its a tribute to PH intro
Yoooo the editing is on another level! Great video!
You’re so underrated i swear, love your content man
*Instead of moving the backbeat ahead or behind by an even 16th note..., try just lagging the snare hits by a few milliseconds, while keeping the kick and hat dead on the beat... That's one of the secrets to getting that epic Bonhamesque heaviness..., while adding just a touch of swing, but still keeping it more straight than swing... You can then 'tighten' or 'loosen' the groove by adjusting the lag on the snare, more lag for more looseness, and vice/versa... The trick is just keeping that lag even...*
yo starting at like 4:55 - 5:00ish your kick drum is REALLY singing - lots of ring, overtones, body. I love hearing a whole bass drum instead of just a thud! LOVE that sound there! :-)
I like your intro it’s simple and short and it just makes sense for your channel!
What a superb video...my 10 yr old son loves it too...thanks so much !!!
You have an awesome way of teaching! I really enjoy learning your drum break downs! Seriously, I see a lot of these and usually turn them off . I really learned from your breakdown, THANK YOU! Great drummer, fantastic drum teacher! For real!
Peace from Detroit MI.
It absolutely amazing montage . Continue this style !
Hahah love this!! You're great Brandon!
These vidoes are always so well made, great job!
Beautiful drums sound!
Editing and story telling ON POINT, great to see you improving so much. This is my favourite drumming channel right now
Damn, a good video, instructional simple aaand real on aprils fool day...Our guy is just built different!
I’m applauding you on your back beat.
It’s the only beat I know.
Great video, mucho love.
2:21 I was a kid when RHCP's "Soul to squeeze" released (before I started playing), and I just couldn't figure out what Smith was doing with the backbeat. It was the first time I think I'd heard that done, and I don't think I ever reflected on what a big deal that was, especially in popular music.
I love the mixture between drum lesson, your EDITING (wow!) and the humor! Keep it up, you earned a new subscriber.
Too FUNNY - Love it !!!
Better than network TV
Very nice editing and playing and teaching! Awesome videos!!
Oh man......that was sweeeeeeet!! Never heard a better explanation on the “back beat” ! Love the visuals , this totally drove the point home. GREAT job!
Love it mate. Love your playing, love your editing, love your teaching approach, love your humour! Keep up the great work 🤙🏻
That is some high quality editing! Really enjoyed the video, keep it up!
Your videos are both hilarious and incredibly well made, what more could anyone ask for?!
Your editing is crazy good dude. 🔥
Fantastic! Nice job!
I feel like I'm repeating myself every time you post a new video. But wow. The production value! You're growing so much as a content creator and I love seeing that! Great stuff as always, Brandon!
great stuff as always!
Lovely video production! I really enjoy the composition when you put the tabs with part of the drum set
Wow.thanks for this, I heard a song from the 80s has this kind of back beat but I'm not sure if I heard it right because Im just starting to learn drums. Thank you for this and the visual is so helpful
man, you're speaking right to me. I'm a self taught drummer , with the help of a few friends. I've always loved playing around with the placement of the snare, and basically everything else. playing alone it's easy to lose myself in new grooves, but when I would jam with friends I could only ever find myself playing basic 4/4 backbeats, unless it was a more specific type of style. I don't blame the other players I think it's just a mechanism of keeping things smooth
I can’t stop watching the intro
The production on these is so good... great video
Your editing game is completely next level!!
🤯🤯
I like how that simple change(s) gives a Clyde Stubblefield vibe.
Great job, man. Cleanest vids out there. Drums and playing sound great.
Dude, I totally love your videos! Thank you.
Awesome video! Your editing skills are ridiculous and those grooves were sick! I love backbeat displacement especially when pulsing quarter notes on a stacker! Keep up the great work dude!!
This is an amazing video. Respect🙏🏻
I do this sortof thing all the time, such a simple way to spice things up without confusing the listener. I like to scoot the "4" snare note back a 16th, like you did in the video. it makes it groove hard IMO, I call it the anticipation groove. I think playing with anticipation and subverting expectations can play a big part in making something groove.
Thanks for another lesson
i love your video editing man!!
amazing editing skills and a great lesson! You rock so much Brandon!
You just keep getting better holy shit.
this gives visual clarity to understanding the rotating bass pedal rhythm of FaithNoMore's 'Strip-search'
Fantastic as usual.
Groovy video dude, excellent editing too. Benchmark level, in fact. Thanks!
Apart from the usual solid explanation, this video is very well produced. A lot of effort into the editing that really helps the explanation, well done :))
Dude this video is amazing. The editing is completely next level
The end is so real
Been off the wagon for a while and I needed the refresher, thanks
Insane edit and content!!! 🔥
A very good and informative tutorial!
I just came across your channel and I don't know if you do everything in the production of this video. If you do, you are one talented and hard-working dude. To be a drum teacher, an excellent video editor, and to do some pretty sweet blender stuff takes a lot of dedication. Mad respect. If not, still, your channel is cool as hell and good job everyone.
The video production quality is 👌👌👌
Every video is just keeps getting better
Dude the production on this is amazing. Really informative too. Keep it up!
Dude that ending was hilarious 😂 so true when you overthink things!
Yo ur videos look amazing! Love the editing!
Very high quality post production! And the content of the video too, of course.
Terrific. Thank you.
This was so freaking satisfying to watch 😅😅 awesome video man, as always! I wanna try out this blender thing that I’ve never heard of before 🤣 keep em coming man
Awesome videos, great animation
Such high quality videos 😻
Insane Editing Effort! Great Video.
Great lesson Brandon
