I had the honor of meeting Bro Umar when he came to Tulsa several years ago. I was in town BECUASE i loved Bro's perspective and all the intellectual and spiritual contributions he made to us. Well, any time a person uses their voice to speak publicly and on record to shed light on the history of the intentional destruction toward my people in this country, that isn't something that should be taken for granted. See, it's easy now to overlook the literary works, documentaries, etc. that so many of our brothers and sisters have recorded, now that it's common knowledge in our communities and can be found all over the internet. I’m from South Jersey 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia and I can say with absolute certainty that the term Snow Bunny originated in my neighborhood. That term came from the zip code of 08028, which is Glassboro, NJ. I grew up in a small area called Elk Twp that’s not exactly Glassboro. The area is so small we do not have a post office. Sounds weird for New Jersey where everyone thinks the entire state is a suburban metropolis. I think I just made that term up but it makes sense. We don’t have any big city but we are in the epicenter of NY, Philadelphia, Baltimore and DC. As small as Jersey is compared to a Cali which is damn near the size of the entire East Coast or Texas. So when you talk about Long Beach, CA, Compton or South Central LA where I live within 3 hours I can be in any of those cities. Meaning Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia, NY, and Atlantic City. Basically what I’m saying is Philly is just a hop skip and a jump from me. Dr. Umar lives within a half hour of me. That snow bunny term started in my neighborhood. That’s all I’m saying.
