  • As the nation responsible for the biggest share of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere today, the United States has pledged more money and made new commitments to fight climate change. Nicolette Bartlett, the global director of climate change at environment advisory group CDP, tells us how carbon trading is helping in the transition.
One phenomenon of the pandemic has been booming house prices. New Zealand is working on ways to control the scourge. Monte Cecilia Housing Trust's Bernie Smith talks us through the challenge.
And finally, we look at why gold has become one of Iraq’s top exports despite there being no gold deposits in the country.

I don’t hear much about mining operations increased to obtain more needed materials for power grids, solar farms, and wind farm. I don’t hear about the cost of maintenance, disposing, and recycling these technologies. I don’t hear much about environmental impact on land use of these technologies. I don’t hear much about the energy density comparison between fossil fuel, coal, nuclear, solar and wind. Which one is really more green?

I agree that its important that we must go green both for the environment but also for our mental and biological selves, and I will be honest but we have gotten a lot better at minimizing individual carbon footprints such as improved filters on cars and the like however, resources aren’t limitless and will run out eventually, even resources such as lithium is starting to become scarce and whilst I agree with the emotional support behind fighting climate change however as a pragmatist I find that current (fighting styles) aren’t working to the best of their abilities such as for example marches when people start getting aggressive or simply stopping traffic, that has a massive and very negative impact on the cause, when people for example stand in the middle of roads or sit on top off trains, it disrupts the daily flow of traffic and people simply going to places such as work or even hospital, get slowed down, or become late, and in turn cause a negative response from those who could make a difference, another would be increasing the demands and growth on bamboo as a wood substitute since bamboo is fast growing, it makes it more ideal than cutting a tree which takes years to grow vs a few days or months, granted it would have to be regulated however it, should help reduce cutting down trees for paper and the like, also trees felled could be handed over for money so rather than cutting down a tree, say one was knocked over during a storm, rather than being sent off as fire wood could be housed, dried and used as furniture or paper and so on.
Personally in order to fight climate change we need to embrace capitalism and by that I mean using sustainable materials and resources at lower or more abundant than non recyclable materials, and with a more incentive reasons such as getting money back or for every can you plant a tree and so on and perhaps we should move back to glass bottles with a standard form, so as I said they can be returned for a pound or if they are broken melted down for new bottles since glass is just super heated sand

One of the most sun doused countries on earth claims no electricity to process gold. Meanwhile every single poppy farmer in AFG is is using off grid solar setups to irrigate fields.

The cost has been put upon us, by decades of Oil and Plastic profits.
    Externalities of Cost!
Profit and Greed in the hands of an unfeeling and genocidal few is what will exterminate us.

Everyone is talking about going green to tackle climate change but no one want to talk about booming world population. With increasing human, we're bound to take more from the Earth. World leaders should follow China's lead in population control, limiting to two child per couple. Climate change speakers should promote human population growth control similar to China's.

China’s population has grown phenomenally in spite of their controls, and that is in spite of the millions killed through Mao Zedong’s policies. It does not matter what you try the population will grow.

Oil is needed in hundreds of processes that we could not live without. It is not just used in cars, planes etc. if we stopped oil we would end up back in the Middle Ages!
