I was a fifth wheel at my freshman homecoming dinner, I was a 79th wheel at the actual dance, and I was a third wheel at the after-hang-out with my best friends who are dating because I introduced them to each other at a festival. I felt the 5th wheel one because that would be me all of the time.

about 5 months ago I was at Disney World with some of my friends and we were going through the single-rider line for Expedition Everest because it was faster than waiting in the group line and I witnessed one of the biggest third wheel situations ever. I was in front of the line so I was next to be put into a seat. There was this group of three Chinese people, there were two guys and a girl and one of them was obviously a couple. They were in the front of the group line and the employee that was in charge of assigning seats asked how many people were going to be riding together and the couple both said “two” after a couple seconds of confusion because they obviously didn’t speak a lot of english, and the employee talked really really fast for some reason, and the poor third guy had been pushed behind them and tried to tell the employee that there was three of them but she didn’t hear him and the couple had gotten to it before him so he had just been completely forgotten about and I actually felt really bad for him to be honest. I ended up being in a seat next to him and he accidentally (at least I’m pretty sure and I hope it was an accident) grabbed my hand at one point and I got scared because I didn’t know what he was doing and then realized it was probably an accident and just didn’t care because it only lasted like 1.5 seconds... he never talked to me once in the ride though... so... when I flung a rubber band on the top of the ride at one point he looked at me really confused and laughed a bit but that was the only interaction we had that whole time. After thinking about it a little bit I realized I didn’t feel bad enough for him because he sat in that line for probably about 2 or 3 hours so he could ride with his friends just to be completely ignored once they got to the front...
