Luckily I was born into it! My father made knives for Chicago Cutlery and for eternity my father's side has carried knives for hunting, fishing, and EDC ! I got so lucky!
E/R/E ... Guys, I think this has been your best report yet (kudos to Erica/notyouraverageedc). It was great to hear your answers to many of these blade-enthusiast questions while dwelling on my own replies. I think I have to go with Riley as to Spartan being the one and only fixed/folder manufacturer if I had to choose (but shutter at the thought). Looking forward to that BBRaptor exclusive and ... a "huge" comedic wrap by David. Thanks. Oh yeah ... since just seven days stranded ... bottle of Woodford Reserve (case of Blanton's if forever ...).
29:12 don't ever be sorry about a long video guys. Always a pleasure. I listen to it as a podcast. The image is here but it's watching me more than I'm watching it !
Cool video guys! I was always into knives and swords because I liked martial arts movies as a kid (still do). My first knife was a green sak classic when I was 8. As an adult I got into whittling on sticks when I was bored. Started looking for an affordable fixed blade when my uncle turned me on to cold steel recon 1's and the voyager series. 10 years later I'm watching knife videos at 1am and playing with hinderers, microtechs, spyderco, and knives from all the other big companies.
I’ve always carried a knife of some sort. Sometimes it was a Swiss Army Knife, sometimes it was just a plastic handled utility knife and other times it was a cheap gas station knife. I got into the RUclips knife community during the Covid lockdowns and my carry has significantly improved in the last two years.
Great video! I am still in the goldfish phase of collecting where I go “Ooh a knive……(pause a few days)…Ooh a knife!”. That track is stuck on repeat in my playlist. I am glad that I didn’t have to face any of those questions.
I started carrying knives as a kid when my pops would give me his old (usually pretty dull) spyderco knives as hand me downs. As an adult, I would carry them for work, but usually just cheaper ones. I got back into higher end knives when covid hit and I worked from home. Work was super slow and I had a bunch of time on RUclips. Now it’s pretty deep.
Fourth item that would actually be useful: I was thinking a tarp, so many things you could use one for... shelter, rain water collection, just to name a couple.
Every video just progressively gets better and better. This has been the best REC Report so far. It looks like it's becoming more natural for you guy's to be in front of the camera. I'm not sure if this question has been asked but I'll ask it anyway. What is your guy's preferred grind on a knife and why? 🤙
Three knives for life for me would be a Tactile Rockwall Thumbstud in Magnacut, An Urban EDC Supply F5.5 Black Micarta Acid Etch Blade and an Urban EDC Supply Nessie
I use to keep my phone in right pocket. It's been months now in the left pocket. Knife use to be back right pocket with wallet. It's not front right pocket. With a 5th pocket knife. Wallet and Hank in left back pocket. And then a leather slip in back right pocket with flashlight prybar and pen. Or some sort of mini EDC pouch instead of the slip. I watch by video ✔️
I've just started watching your channel, and you guys are really great! Loved questions and answers--really made me think about how I'd answer too. I did have one question...is there a Manix LW conversion kit being sold (to convert from pins to torx)? And if so, where can it be found?
Definitely been in the knife game for as long as I can remember. Facebook ig and RUclips definitely helped advance my interest. But I've always had a knife. Gas station walmart etc. Just got older and able to spend more on better pieces. Ken onion was one of the 1st makers i Definitely fell in love with getting me out of the gas station knife market. Currently on a treadmill sweating fat ass off listening while glancing at the video. I'm on the cool down part now so that's how I'm able to comment without falling off! Haha. But yes always listening if I cant watch.
I got into knives by losing a horrible gas station knife at the airport, when I went to buy a new one I looked up a top 10 list on youtube and I was totally hooked, I had no idea there were such awesome knives out there
Personally, I don’t. I enjoy the personal touch they can bring to a knife without modding it, but I haven’t had a situation where I really wanted or needed one.
If I was stranded on an island 1) I would prefer more than a week, I got some shit in m head to sort out. 2) give me a pot, an esee 6, a good ferro rod and a smaller blade for whittling/crafting
My dad got me into knives at a young age, but when I was looking for a fixed blade camp knife Blade Forums kept popping up, so I joined and fell down the rabbit hole.
I got into knives when the price of ammo went thru the roof in 2020. Then when i found out that REC was only like 20 min from my work it was all over.
Also Riley is a riot trying to get Evan to change his carry!

It's all good Evan, I'm a small 21 too 😄
