The thing is, he's getting paid A LOT of money to destroy democracy in the US. His goal is to get the really, REALLY dumb people here to get so angry about the fake world that he portrays that they are willing to just burn it all down. He can only affect the very bottom-rung idiots because anyone with any shred of critical thinking skills can immediately tell that he's very obviously lying his ass off. But guess what? It turns out that the decades of GOP destruction of public education in their efforts to produce a malleable voter base and cheap labor for their donors... had a side effect. There are now tens of millions of Americans who have almost no ability to understand much of anything that they don't have long and repeated exposure to. Without any way to make sense of anything they see happening in the country, they have no choice but to latch onto someone who seems like they know what's up, and simply blindly follow that person until they die. And who better to latch onto than the nice-looking man on the TV who makes things easy to understand? You know, I was raised conservative, and I distinctly remember my family (including me) being pretty pissed off when they started sexualizing M&Ms characters (to be honest, this still bugs me, particularly with the messed up cannibalism aspect, but whatever). Letters of protest were at least discussed, possibly sent. I remember this being a pretty widely-held opinion in our circles. And now they're complaining the chocolates are *less* sexy? Make up your damn minds, conservatives.
