Thank You for this info. Using tweezers is a wonderful tip and I often get confused about which side of the rotary cutter and the position to replace that curved washer.
+Denise Spigner That washer is such a funny looking thing and it easy to get it on backwards. Just think of it as a bowl, you need it up, to put food in it!
I mark the blade cases as used, and unused. I have tried blade sharpeners too. Once I'm good and sure that blade is no longer good for fabric, I use them for paper, and other crafts 😊
Thank you so much!! I was trying and trying to figure it out... turns out I needed to change it a long time ago, there was so much lint in the screw that it was stuck and wouldn't come out! Who needs pliers to change their rotary blade?! Me! I do!
I hope you are still seeing comments and questions here. I have a rotary cutter just like the second one you demonstrated, but I DO have the curved washer, and you said there isn't one, so I am confused ~ and don't know where to put it on! If this makes sense, and you can guide me, I appreciate it so much! Thank you.
You could have a newer one, the washer should go into up position. Like a cowboy hat. If you sent me a picture or the name of the cutter I will check for you
love the tips...is there a better..best ..rotary cutter. I have the orange coloured one and my problem is it keeps loosening up and the blade gets wobbly. I keep on tightening it but its very frustrating. I'm thinking of buying a better one (?)
+Eleanor Pino Try taking it apart and putting it back together again, and make sure that washer is bowl up and is in that little grove. Let me know if that works for you!
+SewVeryEasy ...the grandchildren have left and I'm busy sewing again. The rotary cutter did not have a washer. Maybe it fell off and I didnt notice it but anyways...I purchased another different one and it seemed to work fine except I always get that odd thread that doesnt cut ....but I use my husband"s metal yard stick and childrens plastic rulers and I think I must spend the money and get proper quilting tools. Thanks for answering my question.
I still don't know which way the blade should face when cutting. I'm left handed and so I bought the left and right handed one. Say I'm cutting along ruler from left to right, is the blade supposed to be towards me or away from me? I just can't wrap my head around it😞
i hope you can help me. i have the orange with the washer. only it got very dirty of i dont know what it is. wel i got a new blade. but now if i want to cut the blade pushes to one side and the screw isnt in the middle. i cleaned the blades. but i heard you say the blades are oiled. should i oil them or is my screw just not thight enough anymore.?
I got a new cutter an when I went to change the blade I didn't know it had a washer an I took it apart an it fell out thanks now I have my new cutter back
I have the Fiskars 45 and my blade does not just lift out like yours I just got it and want to change straight blade out with a wavy blade It. Not sure why it seems stuck right out the package? any suggestions?
I think you did it wrong. You have the yellow plastic disk on the wrong side. The blade should set on the cutter and not have the yellow disk between it.
Thanks! That was great. Lots of videos for Olfa, but not many for fiskars
I'm new to quilting...all your tips are great. Love your channel
+Lourdes Atkinson Thank you and thank you for watching
Thank you for great instructions! I knew I would walk away from your video knowing how to do this the correct way 🙂🐞
Great info! I really love the idea of using tweezers to handle the blade. One of the best tips I've seen on youtube. Thank you!
Thank you for the clear explanation plus the suggestion of using tweezers to pick up the blade. That was a great suggestion.
I hope I don't drive you crazy, just love your teaching. I'm 68 and determined I'm going to sew! Lol
GO for it, and have fun I don;t mind at all:):):)
Great video, even an old timer can learn something new from your wonderful tips.
+Debra Graham Thanks Debra, so nice of you to say:)

I went to buy SEWING supplies...and saw so many of these. I didn't know what to get.
Thank you so much. I needed this help badly. From Chile with love!
Thank you for this video. I have put two blades in the cutter at once by mistake! I hope I don’t do that again!
Thank you for this video - I've had the washer in backwards! BTW - I made your scrappy quilt last month and love it - it is my happy scrappy quilt.

I have that Olfa rotary cutter but I don't have that yellow disk. I wonder if I lost it or maybe mine is an old design.
Thank you for the help.
what is the best sharpener?
Was very helpful thank you
Why do you keep the old blade? Does the blade have the curved edge against the handle?
Thank you for your help

Always cut away from you. Blade going towards the end of the table. Like as if you're sliding a plate away from you when done with dinner.

make sure your washer is going in the right direction, look at the about 3:25 time
SewVeryEasy yeah its up. thats why i dont get why my cutter out of nowehere has this problem. maybe the screw isnt tight enough anymore.
Thank you
Thank you, thank you.

I got a new cutter an when I went to change the blade I didn't know it had a washer an I took it apart an it fell out thanks now I have my new cutter back
+Godsbible Word Glad I could help:)
I have a fiskers combo cutter (like a guilotine) how do I change the blade on this ?
can you sent me a link for the cutter?
Thank you.
I have the Fiskars 45 and my blade does not just lift out like yours I just got it and want to change straight blade out with a wavy blade It. Not sure why it seems stuck right out the package? any suggestions?
Is there a right or wrong side to the blade?
No , both the same:)
Please send me a rotary cutter. I can't find one here in the Caribbean.
I put three blades in together because I didnt realise that there were three I the pack!
Yeah mine isn’t popping out at all like this. In fact the blade is broken now
Who is here after they took their blade apart and couldn't get it back together? Lol
When I take the old blade out, I put a sharpie "x" on that blade.
If you end up dropping the pieces you won't be fine
I think you did it wrong. You have the yellow plastic disk on the wrong side. The blade should set on the cutter and not have the yellow disk between it.
I use a sewing pin seperate mine
