"Dominique Wilkins probably the most underrated player in NBA history." - Charles Barkley He really is, man. One of the only six players in history to go 10 straight seasons averaging about 30 points a game. That's incredible. And he did it against Magic, Chuck, Bird, MJ, all those guys and their teams. He's my favorite. He also literally invented the windmill dunk. Even Jordan copied some of his dunks (reverse two-hander) That Dominique dunk is absolutely perfect. A complete display of power, strength, hang time, style. I could watch it every day. and I probably will.
Cristian Alcaraz Got Let me be more specific since I said *about* 30 points. Dominique Wilkins is one of only SEVEN players in history to average AT LEAST 25 points a game for TEN STRAIGHT SEASONS.
@@eazyj2888 not saying their bad. I've gotten use to it but I remember when everyone thought they were going back to the traditional red and yellow. So it was a shock when they went with a lime green.
Damn, I never watched this Dunk Contest but I'm sure I agree, highly underrated! Josh's take off spots are so far out that combined with his Fantastic style is truly a thing of phenomenal flight, one on a short list Basketball's finest high flyer's ever to exsist! I'm going to go watch this contest in it's entirety now. Peace!
10 years later...he gets waived by his 2nd team, and moved to the bench after a week with his 3rd team. Somewhere in there is a good player, I wonder if he'll find it before he retires... I'm an ATL fan for the East, and a HOU fan for the West...so both my teams have had this dude...I seriously hopes he figures it out, but at least the Rockets realize he's PF and not SF. Those years in Detroit did him no favors.
In an interview he said that he didn't know what to do offensively with HOU and after his couple bad games he sat down and watched some films and looked up to DMo. He's improved his game DRASTICALLY with every next game, he is a great player
Icthlarin Eufownchsnvop I just read an article about that. Gotta respect that he owned up to it. Hopefully him and Dwight can develop good basketball tendencies. Like I said, I remain uncertain about the end product. I just can't shake the feeling that HOU and ATL are regular season teams (records notwithstanding). But I am still cheering for the Rockets and the Hawks!
Your saying it as if him being on the bench in HOU is a bad thing. He's doing great coming off the bench and he has given the Rockets the depth they've needed this season. Just check his stats as of recently, his 3pt shooting is 50% in the last 10 games or so and nearly had a triple double the other day. So don't make em seem as if he's being put to waste.
Most people who are lucky enough to shine in ANY aspect of All-Star weekend tend to try to parley that into a more relevant role in their career. I actually commend Smith for wanting to go back to the bench, but you'd think this many years in the league, he'd have SOME semblance of basketball IQ, or at least a knowledge of what his shot selection should be.
Basement Network I can respect that, but after how many years did he finally decide to do this? Like I said, there was a good player buried in there somewhere, he just needed to find it. Perhaps it took getting released by two teams to make him realize it. I suppose the biggest thing is that we expect so many things out of these athletes (understandable, considering their status and income). Just look at how everyone bags on Dwight, even though he's probably still one of the best centers in the league (flaws and all). Even so, HOU needs to realize that Smoove IS NOT a stretch PF! Him AND Dwight could learn a lot from McHale's game!
beautiful work man. Thanks for the extra info in the About section. I think he's a top 3 dunker in terms of a whole contest performance since the 2000's. His dunks are absolutely beautiful, not just technically difficult. VC is clearly another.
Anyone wanting a good show for an underrated dunk contest, check out Jason Richardson in 2002 and 2003. He was doing dunks that should be mentioned up there with V.C., M.J., Dominique, etc.
4:15 to be fair, Vince Carter stated that he came up with some of his infamous dunks from the dunk contest LITERALLY minutes before attempting it. He stated that the between the legs was the first time he tried it!
Dunkers today dont have a certaint flair, style, or power they use too. That’s what’s lacking. Some of these dunks were basic, but it was the full extension, timing, leg position.
HIs first dunk ain't human. Imagine yourself running towards the basket, taking off just inside the free throw line and tomohawking the ball on the side of the rim. Most people wouldn't even make it to the restricted arc. He landed out of bounds. And he got a fuckin 45?
underrated NBA dunk contest right here.
OVERRATED CONTEST
@@Lundahlium How? No one talks about this.
Man those dunks aren't hard lol. That lay up pass? It's just a lay pass he doesn't even jump over the guy.
And I also hate the fucking kid wearing the Hawks jersey.
I remember my older brother being all hyped about this guy josh smith
total motion! "and that is a total waste of money too!"
so funny haahaha
that tribute 'Nique windmill is the most beautiful plain windmill I've seen in my life.
Same the best dull windmill I've ever seen.
yoe91 not better than j rich
What about Gerald Greens lob windmill? That was beautiful too. Full extension
I’m happy for Josh Smith especially cause he payed homage to Dominique and How happy Dominique was watching him
J Smoove got overlooked for the all star game at least 3-4 times and all defense team too
How him or Shawn Marion never got all defense baffles me. Those dude made game change stops.

At least he is in the HOF
He averaged 30 a game because he was basically the only one taking shots on his team, Thats why he's underrated too he never had good teamates
He averaged 30 ppg "only" twice in his career. He was a heck of a player indeed, there's no need to fake his stats.
Cristian Alcaraz Got Let me be more specific since I said *about* 30 points.

9 not 10 dumbass
When Charles said that was a total waste of money talking bout that slow mo thing u died laughing
I love how his legs move in the air.
I AGREE. not a power dunker but his hang time is different
Ayooo
@@mangodingo7257😂
Josh Smith's dunks were brutal and highly aesthetic at the same time, absolutely loved his style.
Major props Josh, paying Homage to Dominique and that awesome Windmill Dunk!!
"tnt's total motion...total waste of money too" lmao!!
copy
Old Hawk jersey look SICK!!!
OneLazyC0rn way better than today's shitty ones
I loved these and the logo. Hate we went to blue and red and now black and green instead of a red and yellow or black and yellow
The Solo ..The Ones Today Aren’t Bad At All..But I Agree That Our Jersey’s Back Then Were Way Better🔥🔥🔥🔥..

..Lol I Was Agreeing With You Man😂😂..
Josh smith is like a left handed Dominique forreal as an overall player. One of the most graceful dunkers ever too

Arguably the most underrated dunk performance of all time.
I just remember watching this as a kid being amazed now we have people missing dunks in these contests
im surprised he didn't pull up for a 3.
John Mindanao lol..... I'm from the "A" nooooo!!!!!!!
Shits hilarious lol
Why? Was he a good 3 point shooter?

Only year I ever bought both Live & 2K, still have them both and an original Xbox hooked up in my game room and still like to play this dunk contest

Absolutely owned this contest. Came in knowing he could win, planned his stuff out, and actually did stuff he could do.
Looking at 2022
His last dunk was so smooth. Love the angle at 5:17.
Josh smith also did the half man half amazing dunk. i dunno why no one was talking about his dunk. he did it just as smooth as vince carter's
Underrated performance. Those were 4 NASTY dunks!
I like how he did the reverse 360 windmill but made it look like a different dunk than VC
Dunk #3 is like a band you love covering your favorite song & it sounding amazing.

The gifts of J-Smoove well portrayed in this video.

the kenyon martin dunk and nique dunk are both awesome

One of my favorite windmills (dunk 3) ever!
Man the old dunk contest intensity was crazy!
One of the best dunk contest performances ever
This was the first one I ever saw and it was amazing
This was TEN YEARS AGO! Just that sink in.

That 360 windmill was underrated as fuck.
That windmill dunk is the best homage dunk ever
I still can't believe he got his right leg around Kenyon Martin on that second dunk.
I'm convinced that Joe Dumars got drunk one night, watched this clip, and decided it would be a good idea to throw $54 million to J Smoove.
20 points for knowing your foot was about to hit your boy in the jump, nice change in the air for not making your boy look bad
Josh Smith is a cheat code
this is why LJ didn't want to join the slam dunk contests - he's just scared!
Ok
Mike Hanopolpol L
I'm happy that the dunking animal dominique wilkins loved Josh Smith's dunk!!
The fact that this man has never made the all-star game or won the DPoTY is nothing short of a crime
4:54 kenny always talking about leaving
3:39 that was a long windmill...
2 FEET, BEHIND THE LINE!
Loool when NBA was so simple
Josh Smith and Amare... where are they now..
Amare is in the Big 3 trying to impress to come back to the NBA but isn't even the best person on his team so.
RobotHuman Josh Smith Is In The Big 3 Now Too🤣😭🤦🏾♂️☠️.

U knew they was gonna throw up 10s soon as he put Dominique jersey on. Dominique gets mad respect from the other legends they know how good he was.
They needa bring back that total motion
That was one of the best windmills ever.
Dunkers today dont have a certaint flair, style, or power they use too. That’s what’s lacking. Some of these dunks were basic, but it was the full extension, timing, leg position.
I can't belive the only way to see his amazing 360 windmill its coming here...
The commentary wild af lolol
Looking at Josh Smith make you think The Game lowkey played in the NBA and didn't tell nobody.
This dunk contest was underrated
This dunk contest underrated
Can't wait for victor oladipo this year
Its good seeing j smooth play better latley. That was a good pick up by the Houston Rockets
Worst production team of all time at 4:52
The last dunk josh smith did was better than the "Dominique" dunk but the last one got no reaction wth.
that last dunk, look at the hang time, look at the flying motion, look at the f@#kn windmill too;)
that was 12 years ago let that sink in!!!!!!
Lets bring back the memories
that last dunk. so much hang time
Dominique would be proud of that dunk, Nothing more needs to be said.
JOSH THE RED MEISTER.

Heaven Yeah
Maybe lacking of creativity. But the execution of his dunks are perfect
Some people say that Charles Barkley is still being cut off to this day
should've put more power on those dunks, other than that they were pretty good
Im still mad bron aint do the dunk contest
Josh Smith invented the jersey tributes by donning Nique's jersey
Fact
man I could put him second after vince carter for power and crativity and hangtime dunks
game lookin boy
Right
The greatest nba player to not be named all star in my eye.
so basically, Josh Smith did the Vince Carter dunk 5 years later.
Yeah basically, and those dunks are even worse.
Man i hate genetics, some guys at 18 are 6'8 220+ with ease. Here i am, weakass 5'8 150 with a 28" vert trying to barely dunk.
Nice!!!!!
who here 2021
when the all star game mattered
barkley calling the total motion a total waste of money lol
What day was this?
4:30 - 4:33 its like a semi tomahawk dunk by MJ..
這個曾經的鷹王 在簽了六年大肥約後 後四五年就擺爛等退休了
