    Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
    www.nps.gov/gr...
An exuberant mountain stream gave this area its unusual name. Roaring Fork is one of the larger and faster flowing mountain streams in the park. Drive this road after a hard rain and the inspiration behind the name will be apparent.
The narrow, winding, Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail invites you to slow down and enjoy the forest and historic buildings of the area. The 5.5-mile-long, one-way, loop road is a favorite side trip for many people who frequently visit the Smokies. It offers rushing mountain streams, glimpses of old-growth forest, and a number of well-preserved log cabins, gristmills, and other historic buildings. Please note that the road is closed in winter.
Before entering the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, a stop at the Noah “Bud” Ogle self-guiding nature trail offers a walking tour of an authentic mountain farmstead and surrounding hardwood forest. Highlights include a streamside tubmill and the Ogle’s handcrafted wooden flume plumbing system.
Just beyond the Ogle farmstead is the trailhead for Rainbow Falls, one of the park's most popular waterfalls. The hike to the falls is 5.4 miles roundtrip and is considered moderately strenuous. If you plan to attempt this hike, be sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots and carry plenty of water and snacks.
The entrance to the motor nature trail is located a short distance past the parking areas for Rainbow Falls. Several homes and other buildings have been preserved in this area. The trailhead for Grotto Falls, another of the park's most popular waterfalls, is located along the route. And a “wet weather” waterfall called Place of a Thousand Drips provides a splendid finale to your journey. An inexpensive booklet available at the beginning of the motor nature trail details landmarks along the route.
    Directions
To access Roaring Fork, turn off the main parkway in Gatlinburg, TN at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail Road to the Cherokee Orchard entrance to the national park. Just beyond the Rainbow Falls trailhead you have the option of taking the one-way Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail (closed in winter). Please note that buses, trailers, and motor homes are not permitted on the motor nature trail.
    Mileage to Roaring Fork:
    from Gatlinburg-1
    from Cherokee-35

We just spent a week in the Smokies, and this is our favorite destination. We do the Roaring Fork loop at least twice a day. We saw a total of 30 bear during our week long visit, most were on this loop. Love your channel, keep the videos coming.

Grotto Falls is one of our favorite hikes. It is the first falls we ever walked to in Gatlinburg. Rainbow falls is a little longer hike, but both are very reasonable. Either one of these trails can take you to Mount LeConte, but we haven't done that one yet.

Boiled peanuts are greater if you find American ones. Lots of guys are getting them imported from Mexico (cheaper). Virginia peanuts are so much bigger and better tasting.

I'm a fan of grotto falls more than rainbow. Rainbow gains much more elevation and is more difficult. Grotto is much more manageable, so it's more enjoyable.

Oh, that's right, you showed them to me. I loved boiled peanuts, regular not cajun.. It's a Southern delicacie. Thanks again for another great video and all your hard work. God Bless. ❤️

Thanks for showing us this trail! My sister and I did this a couple of weeks ago and loved it! We stopped at that area that you said you had never been too before & saw the beautiful Mountain View that you saw. We also stopped and hiked Grotto Falls. It’s only a 1.4 mile hike one way, however it is uphill all the way! It has a 585 ft elevation and would consider it a moderate hike at a minimum. But the hike is worth it once you get to the falls! We also stopped at Ely’s Mill. At that time they had a beautiful assortment of glass blown Christmas ornaments too!

I can't remember when or how I found out about Roaring Fork Road trail. But I absolutely love it. I try to drive it each trip up there, but our last trip up there about 4 years ago, we didn't drive it. We stopped at that general store and got a jar of dilly beans. So good. Oh and I also love boiled peanuts. I grew up eating them and still love them.

That's one of our favorite things to do when we come up from North Mississippi every year after Christmas. Luckily we usually see one or more bears. Heading that way the day after Christmas this year as usual. Wish I was there seeing all this beautiful color now. Thanks for such a peaceful and colorful ride along.

Thank you Ryan for another great video.

We have hiked both Rainbow Falls and Grotto. I like grotto because there aren’t as many stairs. A few years ago when we did rainbow falls it was super exhausting for us but we had a 16 year old practically running uphill to keep up with. We may try rainbow falls again. Grotto we’ve done twice and both times it wasn’t crowded.

Nice seeing those Table Mountain Pines are now nearly 6-7’ foot tall. That area of Roaring Fork on the scenic view short trail you took was burnt in the 2016 fire. The Table Mountain Pine Cones open and release new seeds in a forest fire, very similar to the Jack Pine in the upper Midwest. Nice to see a new forest is born after such destruction and pain.
